Chapter 5: Reunion

At Newark Airport, passengers from flight 666 New World were disembarking. My heart was racing, anticipation thick in the air. Five years had passed since I had last seen Melissa, but finally, the moment of our reunion had arrived.

And then, there she was. Brown hair, light brown eyes, fair skin. Yes, it was Melissa. The woman who had captured my heart.

— Melissa! Over here! — I shouted, waving enthusiastically.

— Zarte! — She ran toward me, and we embraced tightly.

— No need to get so emotional — I joked, trying to ease the tension. — We're together now. We can finally have peace. Let’s grab something to eat—you must be starving after that flight.

— Yes, Zarte, I’m famished! You always understand me so well. That’s why I love you so much.

As we reunited, an inexplicable chill ran down my spine. Something wasn’t right.

Back in the Congo, scientists were making a disturbing discovery. The air grew dense, and a strange presence surrounded them.

— Come see this! — one of the researchers called, his gaze fixed on the devastated ground.

— What is that? — another asked, his voice trembling.

— These marks... they’re not normal. It looks like something very powerful was here.

— That’s impossible. The hurricane wouldn’t have left any survivors.

— But... something is about to happen — a woman whispered apprehensively.

The group moved closer to the marks on the ground. The scars on the earth were deep, as if something or someone had been ripped from the very fabric of nature. The ground was warm to the touch, a heat that couldn’t be explained. The tension in the air intensified as the scientists examined the evidence more closely.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

— These marks… they resemble those of an immense force — said one of the most experienced scientists, a tall man with a stern expression. — Something or someone passed through here with immense energy.

— But that’s impossible… It can’t be — another said, shaking his head in disbelief.

What was happening in the Congo was more than just a natural phenomenon. The red hurricane that had devastated the region didn’t behave like any ordinary climatic event. It defied all logic and scientific understanding. It wasn’t just the storm’s wind and force that troubled the scientists, but the growing feeling that something else was at play—something far greater and more terrifying than they could comprehend.

— Something escaped the hurricane — the woman spoke again, this time with more conviction. — Something far more dangerous than any storm we’ve ever seen.

The atmosphere around them seemed to be charged with a heavy, dense energy, as if the very air was about to rupture. The feeling that they were on the brink of something much larger overwhelmed them, and they all fell silent, absorbing the gravity of what they were beginning to realize.

Back at the airport, the unease inside me only grew. Despite the joy of our reunion, something deep in my mind screamed that something was wrong. Something much bigger was unfolding, and I didn’t know if I could escape it. Melissa seemed to notice my change in demeanor but said nothing. She had always been attentive to my reactions and knew when I was tense or troubled.

— Are you okay, Zarte? — she asked, a hint of concern in her voice.

I hesitated for a moment. I didn’t want to worry Melissa with the thoughts piling up in my mind. What I knew, what I felt, was something I couldn’t yet explain.

— Yes, I’m fine — I replied, trying to mask my unease. — I’m just... processing things. Maybe it’s my family’s trip to the Congo.

She smiled and pulled me closer.

— Don’t worry, Zarte. We’re together now. Nothing else matters. It’s just you and me.

I wanted to believe that, to think that everything had just been a nightmare, something my mind had invented. But deep down, deep down inside, I knew something big was happening. I just didn’t know what was coming next, but I could feel that whatever it was, it would change life as we knew it forever.

Maybe I really was going crazy, but something strange inside me whispered that I was right.
