My thoughts and eyesight split up. My thoughts found their way back quicker and I felt a tight bind holding my hands together behind my back. “I'm sorry, I thought you were one of them” I heard through ringing ears. The sound of another person's voice startled me “I might as well have been, as hard as you hit me” The voice chuckled nervously and then there was silence. My vision finally showed up and I looked around the room, the voice seemed to come from nothing, as there was no one around. I wiggled my hands and there was something sticky rubbing against my wrists. I looked over my shoulder and fell over in the process but my hands were being held by thick tape. I sighed “My hands have better places to be in situations like this” I shouted. And the voice responded “One second” from the hall. I rolled my eyes. I sat and thought about my family, wondering if they even knew about what's going on, if it's even happening anywhere else. I heard footsteps coming back from the hall. It was the doctor that took the kid before. He pulled out a sharp piece of glass and began walking towards me, and my heart started beating faster and my breathing sped up. He crouched down in front of me, I flinched.
“Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you” he said solemnly. I didn't believe him, considering our introduction. He went around me and cut the tape. “We should get you cleaned up, you took quite a hit” he said. I flexed my hands and rubbed my wrists and the doctor grabbed a clear bottle and a rag then put on elastic gloves. He poured some of the liquid on the rag and pressed it against my hairline on the right side. I winced and there was a burning sensation. I made a small noise and he apologized “I'm sincerely sorry, I truly thought you were one of those creatures.” He stared at me for a moment before continuing “Have we met before?”
“Not really” I responded “but you pulled a kid from a table in my fourth period” I added.
He looked into the distance “ah, i remember seeing you now” he said.
“So can you explain to me what is even going on” I asked curiously.
“Not really. Unfortunately that's what my job here was supposed to be” he added with a frown.
Shocked, I asked him “So you've seen this before?!” he looked at me for a second, almost apologetically “only in containment.”
“So what DO you know?” I asked frustrated
“Not enough to confidently explain it to you.” He said slowly
His eyes inspected the floor for a moment and then a loud crash came from the lounge and growling filled the hall. The doctor and I both look at eachother in a quick glance and start prying at the barred window, trying to find a way to loosen it. But it was to late, the things started moving down the hall and closer to us, me and the doctor slam the door shut, trying to keep them out, but it wasn't enough, there were to many and they began to push us out of the way, I slipped because of the weight of the door. I started thinking, this is it. My eyes got watery and I started to feel their cold fingers brush and grab at my shoulder, their weak feet landing next to mine. I took what little energy i had left and pushed the door as hard as could, I took what I thought would be my last shaky breath and,

The bell rang throughout the office and lounge. The pressure on the door lightened up as the things began shuffling off in all directions. I peeked through the small window on the door and tried to ignore the heartbeat in my ears and the pounding in my chest.
“What are we gonna do?’ I asked the doctor in a shaky voice.
The doctor sat in silence for a moment. “There” He said pointing at the room across from us.
“Okay” I answered
I didn't question why, I just wanted to get out and I was looking for guidance.
“Move slow and quietly” he explained “if they hear you, they'll come back and i'm not sure we’ll get lucky this time”
We slowly cracked open the door the doctor slid through, I began to follow
As I began to leave, one of the things must've knocked something over, it startled me and I slipped back into the room while the doctor made it to the other side. The things started to reposition slowly making the lounge and office theirs. When the doctor noticed I had not followed him, an annoyed face replaced his fear, he looked to a side of the room I couldn't see and he crept to it. From the room, I heard a slam and then white flashes followed by a screaming bell filled every room. The fire alarm was going off and the doctor made it out without me. I panicked and ran as fast as I could into the other room, slamming through the same fire door. I was out. Fresh air filled my lungs, the light breeze ran through my hair, and the cloud filtered sun gave me my hope back.
“Now what” I thought. The doctor was gone and I was alone. Too alone. The usually busy streets were full of cars, but no people. The house's doors were open, but no one came through. The only noise around me was the now muffled screaming of the fire alarm in the school.
“Over here!” someone shouted I looked over and it was the doctor and another man dressed in a combat uniform similar to the army. I ran to them
“You left me!” I shouted
“Be quiet.” The man in the uniform said sternly. “With that alarm ringing, you're the last thing I want to hear right now”
The doctor sat in silence with a guilty expression on his face
“Is there anyone else in there that's alive?” the man in uniform asked.
“Not that I've seen” I answered, thinking about my friends
“We need to go back in”
“What?! No, i JUST got out of there” the doctor exclaimed
For a moment i agreed
“Don't then. Considering the first thing i heard the kid say is “you left me” ill probably have a better chance without you” the man in uniform said sternly
I stared into the distance for a moment
“Who are you looking for”
