It was a regular day, it always is. I was sitting in class, daydreaming like usual. I was in my 4th period so my day was almost over and I was thinking about the video games I'd play or how good my bed and fan is going to be once I kicked off my shoes. Once I snapped out of my transe of imagination. I noticed the kid across the table from me wasn't looking good, I didn't know them so I kept to myself and silently hoped they didn't puke in the last 15 minutes of class. I had my headphones in so I didn’t notice the classroom door opened until someone was patting the sick kid on the back. I took a headphone off, trying to listen in and the man was asking the kid some questions “Can you walk?” but the kid gave no response. The man radioed “Can we get a wheelchair and the Doctor”. While waiting for the doctor to arrive, I silently watched. The boys eyelids fell like feathers and covered his bloodshot eyes. His face began to turn red, not quick enough for concern, but not slow enough for reason. A bead of sweat fell from his brow and rolled off his eyelash, then there was another knock.
The Doctor who eventually showed up was wearing a black lab coat and some suit pants with black dress shoes. The mysterious man whispered something in our teacher's ear that made him look more sick than the kid across from me. The class door opened again and the wheelchair was brought in. Only when they lifted the kid and set him in the chair, had I realized how bad he really looked. His face was beet red and speckled with white spots, he was sweating so bad he looked like he just finished running through a sprinkler, his breathing was shallow and almost came out as groans. When they wheeled him out the strange doctor followed. After they were gone, everyone sat in silence, like they were embarrassed they didn't realize how bad he was, including myself. The teacher clapped his hands together and apologized and asked anyone else if they felt sick at all, everyone shook their head no. Then the bell rang. I got up and left the class, taking a moment to regain my thoughts and convincing myself that it was just a bad case of the flu that flared up in the middle of class. I walked to my best friend.
“Hey salma”
“Hey man, you ok? You look a little off” She asked
“Just a little shaken up. Long day” I explained
“I get it. Doing anything after school?”
“Hopefully going home. You?” I said, smiling
“Spending time with my dad, he just got released from service and he’s picking me up today” she said cheerfully

“Thats cool, i'm not doing much after school, so maybe i can finally meet him” i added
“Maybe, he’s a little blunt with new people” she said a little embarrassed
“It’s ok” i smiled “i get it”
The bell rang again. I walk into my 5th period, sit down and my day is normal again. Class continues and I start to doze off during independent work time, then the class phone rings. I couldn't hear the conversation but the teacher looked at me and said he’ll be right up. She explained that the office needed me to talk about a schedule change or something. I took my time getting there, still drowsy from my almost nap. I went to the bathroom, washed my face, and got some water. I looked at myself in the mirror for longer than I should have, trying to look for any symptoms similar to the kid from earlier. After convincing myself I was fine 3 times over, I walked to the office. Once there, I opened the office door and stepped in. The air was thick and there was a putrid smell that coated the room. The security door closed and clicked behind me. I was unsure what to do so I sat down in a waiting chair, looking around trying to think of what might be the cause of the smell. The silence was too loud for me so I decided to investigate. I got up, but when I did my headphones snagged and pulled the chair over. My headphone cord shot out and the metal chair hit my legs then crashed to the floor. It startled me but I fixed it and figured no one was around so I got over the potential embarrassment. My confidence was shut down by a low grumble that came from behind the counter. I leaned over the counter slowly to see what it was. A pale hand grabbed for me with a loud snarl. My eyes grew wide and I let out a shriek as I watched what was left of the previous office assistant try to grab at me while letting out loud snarls and shambling towards me. The scare put me on my back, my heart started beating in my throat and my lungs refused air. I crawled backwards to the door I came in through, my hand got to the door handle but it wouldn't budge, the red light next to the door started blinking, almost in the pattern of a chuckle. My heart was punching me in the chest like it was trying to keep me down . The sound must have alerted someone else and three others came from a room behind the counter, a slight relief washed over me, until I saw them followed by the boy from my 4th period earlier in the day, they're hollow gray eyes all met mine at the same moment. I finally found the strength to get up but my legs were shaking, i picked up a chair and threw it at the assistant, she tumbled over and the chair landed next to her, i rushed around the counter picked up the chair and pinned the assistance with the legs of the chair, the rest kept shambling towards me while the pinned assistance hand reached up, grabbing for my legs, in a panic i searched for the button that would open the door. There were a few so I pressed them all and threw myself over the counter. I opened the door I previously came through only to be met with more snarls of previous classmates, I yelled and spun back around running through the office and bursting through another door that led to a lounge. I slammed the door to the lounge and pounding followed, I looked through the small window and saw the office filled with people I used to know. I sat down, thinking about whether or not I'm even really here but the realization set in. I knew what was happening but I didn't want to accept it, my friends and family members' faces ran around in my head and I began to cry. I was unsure where they were or if they were still ok. I sat in a moment of sorrow until I heard a screw fall onto the floor. It was from the door hinge. I quickly stood up and wiped my face and realized the door would come down soon, there was a hall that lead to other rooms but i knew there was no way out, i began running down the halls looking for a window or anything i could get out through, then once i made it to the last room, i pushed open the door and seen a barred window, a bittersweet feeling flooded me as i ran towards it, i went through the door and then there was a loud crack followed by darkness.
