7. Prison.

The old man led Yuri directly into an unremarkable gray two-story building. As soon as they reached the door, they saw a soldier who was also only wearing underpants and had a standard federal mechanical maintenance automatic arm on his hand. The old man chuckled and murmured to himself in a low voice, "Hehe, have these guys who should be shot finally come to their senses? Knowing that I'm short of manpower, they actually sent two people." He shouted at the soldier, "Hey! You, what are you looking at? I'm talking about you. Follow me!"

The mechanical maintenance soldier looked very reluctant, as if he had received an extremely arduous task. He followed behind the old man dejectedly and secretly asked Tian Xingjian, "Brother, what did you do wrong? Sent to this monster's hands."

Yuri was stunned and vaguely felt that something was not good. He said, "I just arrived. I don't know anything." Secretly speculating in his heart, "It's over. It must be that the matter of more than twenty escapes recorded in the battlefield automatic recorder has been discovered." Ever since he became a soldier, Yuri knew that according to military regulations, deserters would be subject to military trials and punished according to the severity of the circumstances. The heaviest punishment is death! Especially soldiers who desert during the war are almost invariably executed. Although he was a mechanical maintenance soldier, the number of times he had escaped was a bit too many.

In fact, except for the combat maintenance groups specifically assigned to combat troops, other professional mechanical maintenance soldiers do not belong to the combat sequence. In the army, they are like field hospitals and belong to the logistics sequence. In times of unfavorable battle situations, they should be evacuated first. Except in special circumstances, they will not be sent to the battlefield. And if there is no combat order issued, then escaping when one's own combat troops are defeated cannot be considered desertion without fighting.

Yuri's escape record had long been known. In their eyes, they just thought this mechanical maintenance soldier ran very fast and didn't have a bit of consciousness of sacrificing himself for the country and fighting to the end. It was inevitable that people would look down on this guy for being cowardly and afraid of death. But at most, this would only affect Yuri's future in the army. The charge of deserter had not been attached to him.

Thinking like this, Yuri became a little flustered. But now that he was here, could he do as he pleased? If he had known this, he should have taken a few more days on the road. Otherwise, he might as well live in seclusion in the mountains.

The old man led them to turn several corners in the corridor. After passing several thick iron doors in succession, they entered an elevator. After fiddling with the control panel of the elevator for a while, a panel popped out. The old man put his hand on the panel. A green light scanned his palm from top to bottom. After scanning the old man's pupils to confirm that it was correct, it started to move and went down all the way. After about five or six minutes, the elevator finally stopped. According to Yuri's perception of the elevator's speed, they were at least five or six hundred meters deep underground.

"Where on earth is this? I'm just a mechanic. There's no need to imprison me so strictly!" Yuri wailed in his heart.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The elevator door opened, and a corridor appeared in front of the three people. Walking dozens of meters forward along the corridor, there was a transparent disinfection room. The old man pushed the two of them in and said repeatedly, "Hurry up and go in. After disinfection, there are antibacterial suits beside. Take them and put them on yourself!"

Hearing that it wasn't a gas chamber, Yuri's heart that had just been raised slightly settled down. He quickly entered the room, cleaned himself under the nozzle, and put on a large antibacterial suit.

Seeing that the fat man was quick in his actions, the old man nodded in satisfaction and said, "Well, you are quite fast." After waiting for a minute, seeing that the other mechanical maintenance soldier was still slowly putting on his clothes, the old man roared at him, "You should be shot. Hurry up and put it on! Don't waste my time."

Finally, when the mechanic put on his clothes and walked out, the old man led the two of them through the last door. This was an alloy automatic door. As soon as they entered, an extremely large hall appeared in front of Yuri.

The hall was filled with mechanical parts, mechas, weapons, and various equipments. In the center of the hall, there was a huge central computer with tens of thousands of electronic signal tubes blinking. A group of people wearing white dust-proof work clothes were busy coming and going. There were also some passages and doors around the hall.

Yuri was a little puzzled. This didn't look like a prison but rather a huge laboratory.

The old man pointed to a pile of things in a corner that could no longer be distinguished as mechas or parts and said to Yuri and the soldier, "Hurry up and repair it. The blueprints are in the computer. If you don't know how, look it up yourself! Tools and parts are all complete here. Food will be delivered regularly. Take it yourself. I have only two requirements, speed and quality! It's war time. Our experiments must race against time. If you can't keep up with my progress, you will be shot! If you damage these equipments, you will also be shot! If you can't repair it well, you will definitely be shot!"

As soon as Yuri heard this, his face turned pale immediately!

The old man gave a strange look at this fat man with a pale face and sweating profusely. Then he said, "If you understand, then start working quickly!" With a wave of his hand, he went directly to a room inside. While walking, he muttered, "How much time have you wasted! All should be shot. All should be shot!"

It seemed that although there had been no military trial, he had probably been convicted. Now was the only chance to redeem himself and save his life. As soon as Yuri thought of this, like a toy rabbit equipped with a nuclear battery, he rushed to the pile of parts with the fastest speed and buried himself in work. He wanted to complete the commutation from death with reprieve to life imprisonment with his best performance.

Looking at this mechanical maintenance soldier who was working desperately, the staff in the laboratory looked at each other. They had rarely seen such a diligent maintenance soldier. Usually, those who were sent here to help were soldiers who had made mistakes outside and were punished by coming here. Because the workload was too large and there was no freedom, and the things responsible for maintenance were also very profound and complex, everyone complained. It was very rare to see someone like Yuri.

Two days later, everyone in the laboratory knew that they had found a treasure this time. This fat man worked longer every day than those who were frantically researching. His actions were ridiculously fast. He could repair some rare mechas or weapons almost without looking at the blueprints. When another mechanic received an order to leave here, the mountain of junk had been basically repaired by the fat man alone.

This fat man is really talented!
