Yuri. Interstellar Legend
15. Special Reconnaissance Battalion

15. Special Reconnaissance Battalion

The transport ship landed at the military airport in Cato City. The hatch opened and Yuri jumped down. He was the only passenger. This transport ship was responsible for material supply and was loaded with some mecha parts and weapons and ammunition. Yuri's mecha and luggage were also on this transport ship.

Hundreds of various ships were floating in the sky above the airport. Most of them were transport ships, and there were also some fighter jets responsible for air surveillance. In the distance, there was a repair dock for space ships. The dock had four berths and was erected with densely packed I-beam steel frames. Four huge warships under repair were quietly suspended in the berths. Thousands of workers were like ants, speeding up the repair of these ships shining with black metallic luster.

Transport vehicles and mechas responsible for loading shuttled back and forth on the ground, transferring out the piled-up materials in the transport ships with their mouths wide open. These materials would be distributed to the front line or other units in urgent need of these materials through the huge and effective logistics department of the federation.

Whistles sounded one after another. Hundreds of signal soldiers wearing white signal uniforms were waving small triangular flags of red and green in their hands to direct the ascent and descent of ships and the passage of transport vehicles.

This grand scene shocked Tian Xingjian. When a country with three star regions is fully mobilized, the power it erupts is huge. This power does not disappear because of its dormancy in peacetime. When it is threatened, this power will be like a volcanic eruption that cannot be controlled and cannot be blocked. Even if there is a more powerful force to contend with it, the final result will surely be mutual destruction.

This power is the power of every citizen of the federation. Perhaps a person is just a tiny dust in this vast universe. But when thousands upon thousands of people gather together and strive for the same goal, this power becomes immeasurable. And time will make these people whose lives are like a flash in the pan in the long river of time accumulate the enthusiasm they have dedicated. This accumulation has achieved human civilization and conquered the vast universe. And oneself also exists in it. This existence will eventually be forgotten by people, but it is a never-disappearing wave in the sea of human civilization. When death really comes, is fear useful?

Since it cannot be avoided, then facing a magnificent life may be the most correct choice.Yuri didn't know how many people would have the same or similar thoughts when facing war and facing life and death. What choices would they make? But reality was telling him that these people were fighting and were resolutely engaged in a patriotic war that they might lose their lives at any time. Everyone was their own hero.

Perhaps they were also as afraid as he was, afraid of becoming floating dust in the universe, afraid of becoming the dust blown by the wind on the land. But they still held their positions and were willing to sacrifice everything.

And for himself, there was no way back. Didn't the federation, this country that gave birth to and raised him, have something worth defending?

What was this thing? Was it the smile of the beautiful girl he had secretly loved in his memory? Or was it the rusty swing from which he fell and cried bitterly in his childhood? Or was it the poor mother of the young soldier who died painfully on TV...

He had escaped enough. After twenty-one escapes lasting half a year, he didn't want to taste the taste of despair again. Forget the choice between life and death. This was an unsolvable proposition. Fate would give the answer in the end. Before that, what he should do was to truly integrate into this great era.

Three hours later, Yuri drove his dilapidated mecha named "Logic" and arrived at the division headquarters of the 16th Aviation Marine Division.

This was a military base located in the southwest direction of Cato City. Anti-detection jammers were all around the base. If satellites in the sky took pictures of here, all they would get would be pitch-black photos.

Yuri handed his electronic soldier identity card to the guard standing guard outside the gate. After a minute, he was allowed to enter the base.

Passing through several rows of guard barracks full of various standard mechas, this mecha that seemed to fall apart at any time attracted the attention of everyone along the way. Many female soldiers covered their mouths and laughed in surprise when they saw this thing.Yuri remained calm and deliberately made the mecha walk forward with a difficult step as if it couldn't move its legs. When he saw a beautiful female soldier, this guy would jump down and pretend to ask for directions with a lecherous look.

There was at most one hundred meters away from the direct reconnaissance battalion of the division. Suddenly, Yuri saw a beautiful female soldier with a graceful figure by the side of the road. He cheekily approached and continued his trick of asking for directions and chatting up. But this beauty was not as friendly as the previous ones. She had a cold face and an indifferent look.

Yuri thought to himself, "Okay, ignore me, right? I'll pester you today."

This guy was originally a rogue. A model of wretchedness, vulgarity, and shamelessness. What he liked to do most all day was to look for trouble for nothing. He was thick-skinned and tireless. Except for violent girls like Milan, there was no woman in the world from whom the fat man could get away without taking some advantage.

Moreover, Yuri hated people who looked down on others and thought they were superior the most in his life. In his eyes, no matter who it was, as long as they pretended to be superior, he would bring them down.

The indifferent female soldier was pulled and tugged by this guy and was pestered endlessly. In the end, she couldn't avoid it. She gritted her teeth and drew a map in detail and explained for a long time. Looking up and seeing that the annoying fat man in front of her had a look of finally understanding, she was just relieved when she heard the fat man ask again, "I still don't understand. How do I get there? Is this a map you drew?"

Several soldiers watching on the side laughed so hard that they almost fell over. They all scolded in their hearts that this fat man was really not a good person.

Seeing that the female soldier was furious, the fat man slowly poured a basin of cold water and said, "Second Lieutenant, remember to salute when you see a superior officer in the future. Forget it this time. I won't pursue it."

Then he turned around and jumped onto the dilapidated mecha and left in a swagger. A black smoke that seemed to come only from an antique diesel engine spewed out from the tail of the mecha. It was black and thick and lingered in clusters.

This female soldier named Alice had been pampered since childhood and was arrogant. When had she ever seen such a wretched and shameless fat man and been bullied like this? And her position was lower than the other party's. She couldn't beat or scold him. A sense of grievance rushed straight into her nose and she almost couldn't help crying. She was angry and resentful in her heart: "Dead fat man, I'll be your sworn enemy!"

The news that Yuri had angered Alice, the third most beautiful woman in the whole division, before he even reached his company spread quickly throughout the entire camp. Everyone was guessing what background this fat man had. Some soldiers who had been sneered at by Alice or didn't like her were talking and be glad . And the supporters of Alice were indignant and vowed to make this fat man who had humiliated their goddess pay.

When he came to the battalion headquarters of the reconnaissance battalion and jumped off the mecha, Yuri was told by the guard that Battalion Commander Nadal was holding a wartime intelligence briefing meeting.

After waiting for a short while, the meeting ended. Nadal, who was tall and had a thin face, walked out frowning. He was going to see what kind of person this lieutenant company deputy forced on him by the frontline headquarters was.

"Deputy Company Commander Tian Xingjian of the first company of the direct reconnaissance battalion of the 16th Armored Division of the federal aviation marines reports for duty as ordered. Please give instructions." Yuri's military salute was standard and powerful.

"Damn it. A fat man coming to be a scout? And a cowardly fat man." Nadal, who had already learned some information from his good friend at the frontline headquarters, tried hard to control his contempt for the fat man in front of him.

"At ease, Lieutenant. Please follow me." Nadal turned around and took the fat man into the office.

"Please sit down, Lieutenant. There's a chair over there." Nadal pointed with his finger."Thank you, sir." Yuri still had a standard military posture. When he sat down, his back was straight. His hands were placed on his knees and he looked straight ahead.

Nadal walked around the desk and sat on his chair. He took out a cigarette from the cigarette case on the desk, put it in his mouth and lit it. After taking a deep puff, he asked as if talking to himself, "I heard you were a mechanical maintenance soldier before?"

"Yes, sir." Yuri felt a bit guilty. His sharp sixth sense from enhanced training showed that the tone of this immediate superior didn't seem so friendly.

"I heard you entered the special training team? The first special training was for scouts?" Nadal looked at Yuri with a scrutinizing gaze through the curling smoke with his eyes slanted.

"Yes, sir." Yuri cursed in his heart: "Damn it. It's clearly written in my file. This guy has to ask with a sarcastic tone of 'I heard this' and 'I heard that'."

Nadal smiled slightly and still asked unhurriedly, "Since you received special training and your grades seemed to be good, why did you become a mechanical maintenance soldier again?"

"Damn it. I can't tell you that I'm afraid of death and don't want to join the reconnaissance company, right?" The fat man groaned in his heart. But his mouth didn't stop: "It's completely a personal interest, sir."

"Interest?" Nadal stubbed out the cigarette he had only smoked half of and shouted angrily: "Lieutenant, war won't take into account everyone's interests. If everyone makes choices according to their own interests, I'd be a carpenter now."

"Finally erupted." Yuri wailed in his heart. He jumped up like being shocked by electricity from the chair. He stood at attention and shouted loudly:

"Yes, sir. Sorry, sir."

The emotional Nadal jumped up and shouted: "I don't know why the frontline headquarters stuffed you, this fat man, into my place. All I know is that those inexplicable merits in your file are all bullshit. Except for being relatively good at the skill of running away with your tail between your legs, I don't think you are qualified to lead a company here just because of your fat body! Fat man, I don't care what you did before or if you are still proud of the achievements you got in playing those childish games in the special training team. But I want to tell you that there are no people who eat idle meals and gain weight in my place. Remember, I'll only say this once. Remember the full name of this battalion. It's not a crappy reconnaissance battalion. It's the direct special reconnaissance battalion of the 16th Armored Division of the aviation marines.

"The only special reconnaissance battalion in the entire federation! Remember?

Get out!"

Yuri fled in defeat.
