Day 50
The two armies clash again today. It is clear that one army has the numerical advantage but the other army has the terrain advantage.
I block the stab of an enemy spearman and Ran goes in for the kill with his sword. It is kinda funny cause he's a 6 year old kid waving a sword that is about 3/4ths his height.
I decided to take Ran under my wing and train him so that he doesn't die pathetically. Caleb also sparred with me now and then and gave us both a few pointers. We made a pretty decent team if I do say so myself. Ran's training slowly progressed and eventually we were able to kill three elves together and he got his freedom. (Ran can hold his own against an average soldier now. Is he a genius?) A little while back he decided to take a sword from a fallen elf we had slain and preferred it over the spear. The captain allowed him to stay with our division because he was still a little kid and didn't want to be separated from me.
After seeing that I brought in more elf kills than the other soldiers I was promoted to sergeant a few days ago and I have some respect from my troops but a lot of guys still disrespect me cause I'm still kid. (Gotta teach those bitches a little something called respect.)
I spot an elf and alert Ran. We both run over to the elf soldier and engage him in battle. I am usually the one that takes the brunt of the attacks while Ran tries to disable the enemy by stabbing them in the legs and then I usually go for the kill.
After the elf is slain. I see a mage fall down not too far away from me and is about to get killed. I throw my spear at him and kill the enemy and run towards the mage to retrieve my spear while Ran loots the dead elf body. (Elves have a lot of neat weapons that sell for a good price)
I pull out my spear from the dead body.
"Thanks for saving me."-Mage
I just nod back and return to Ran and we go back into the fray. I must say that I enjoy having the little runt around (although he doesn't really talk much). It's pretty fun fighting together with him and I enjoy the battles that we have together.
Back at camp while we are eating the mage that I saved came up to me. He is kinda short. About 5"6 and not that fat or skinny and not much muscle on him either. He looks to be in his mid thirties with an average looking face.
"Hey, I just wanted to thank you again for saving my life. My name is Alex by the way."-Alex
"No problem. I'm Regis and this is Ran."-Me
"If you ever need anything look for me and I'll do everything in my power to help you."-Alex
I suddenly have an idea. I swear to gods I must be a fucking genius sometimes.
"Actually I have a request now. Could you teach us magic?"-Me
"Hmmm... It is within my power..... Sigh.... I wasn't looking for any apprentices but alright. Though I am going to warn you it is quite difficult."-Alex
"Alright."-Me
We head over to his tent to receive our first magic lesson.
"Okay have a seat on the ground. Now first thing you have to know about magic is that magic comes from mana. What is mana you say? Well mana is the life force of the world or energy if you want to call it that.
Mana is everywhere from the trees to the ants. Every living thing has mana. A person is born with a limited mana but they can increase it if they use a lot of magic and meditate for a long time.

If a mage has any children the mage's children will have a bit more than the average person. And if his children become mages then their children will have even more mana and so on and so forth."-Alex
"Now I'm going to have you meditate and feel your mana pool. Go into crisscross apple sauce and put your hands on your knees and close your eyes. Focus internally and search for your mana pool."-Alex
Nothing happened for several minutes so I got frustrated and tried harder. Then suddenly I feel something like water within me and I reach out for it. I kinda feels like I'm getting high on weed but it's more of a pure high not the dirty kind of high from drugs.
"Wow I didn't expect you to find your mana pool so quickly. It took me a month to find my mana pool. You must be a genius."-Alex
Ran was able to find his mana pool a few minutes after me.
"Now we're going to go to the training area where the dummies are."-Alex
We reach the training area and he tells us to picture a little flame on our finger.
I manage to bring out the mana from within myself and suddenly there is a little flame on my index finger. I'm excited at finally being able to use magic!
Ran gets the hang of it about the same time as I do.
Alex looks at us in disbelief.
"What the fuck? It took me a week to be able to do that. You kids are fucking genius'."-Alex
"Okay now I'm going to teach you the incantations for a fire ball. It requires a lot more mana than that little flame you have. Also remember to aim at the training dummy not anyone else."-Alex
"Oh source of all power, which glows crimson, gather in my hand FIREBALL!"-Alex
A ball of fire that looks about a foot wide appears in his hand.
"Now you don't throw the fireball you just push it with your mana in the direction you want."-Alex
The chant sounds like such a fucking pain the ass so I just will my mana to make a fireball. and voila. There it is. Except mine was about twice the size of Alex's fireball. I figure if I put more air into the fireball and it turns blue. (haha simply chemistry. I had straight A's after all)
"How in the world are you able to make demon fire? That is an A rank magic spell!!! I thought you were a beginner! And how did you do voiceless incantation? That takes years to master!!!"-Alex
His jaw looks like it's about to fall off and I laugh at his and this world's lack of science.
"It's quite simple. I just wanted to put more air into it because air makes it hotter and it turned blue. I don't know how to do voiceless incantations, I just did it."-Me
Ran followed my instructions and did the same thing. Turns out he can do voiceless incantations as well.
Alex gets over this revelation and composes himself. I learn that there are four basic magic types- fire, water, earth, and wind. there are more advanced magic like lightning, ice, and if you want to get super advanced there is gravity and time which is lost magic.
We end lessons for the day and Ran and I decide to practice some more magic before heading off to bed.
