Prayer and Magic

"Sir Ernest, you have a visitor."

"Who is it?"

"One of the Karayıldız Guild masters, Karma'l Sırma."

"Where is he now?"

"He's waiting for you downstairs for breakfast."

"I see, I'm coming."

Karma was serious about teaching Ernest the craft. She was going to teach him everything and never leave her side. So, she came to the Çift Kemer inn where Ernest was staying, early in the morning and prepared a nice breakfast for him.

"This table must have cost you a lot."

"When you're a master adventurer, your perception of cost changes. Sit down, I had it prepared for you."

"With your permission."

"You must be wondering why we're having breakfast together the day after we met. You might think it's too soon."

"Not at all. Since you're my master in the guild, you probably want to keep me around. It's not a problem for me. By the way, what is this?"

One of the plates had a fluid as clear as honey. It was part of Sertayaz's rich cuisine.

"It's a jam made of Aurilium. It provides mana replenishment and durability. It also has a pretty good taste. I suggest you eat it every morning." "I'll consider it."

"Now, let me tell you about what we're going to do today. They don't give missions to rookies at first. Nevertheless, we're going to hunt monsters tonight. There are a lot of monster nests around Sertayaz. Even if you clear one, another monster will come and build a nest. Until evening, I want to show you the basics of magic. And in the evening, you will practice and develop yourself."

"What kind of basics?"

"From the outside, you look more like a defender than a wizard. Have you ever cast a spell willingly?"

"No."

"I thought so. You've considered yourself a fighter. However, you're casting spells without even realizing it."

"What kind of spells?"

"You couldn't have broken my barrier yesterday without damaging it. You cast some kind of healing spell, but before your body got injured."

"I healed it before it got injured?"

"That's right! It was an impressive spell. Considering that you cast it unconsciously, I think you have potential in magic. You're in the soul group, which makes you suitable for transformation spells. What you did yesterday was probably a spell of that kind. You sacrificed the mana needed to heal the wound before it even formed. I haven't figured out how you did it yet, but that must be it."

"Okay, I'm full. Let's do it."

"Now?"

Karma's dream had come true. Her impatient, eager and obedient student, who wanted to learn everything, had finally arrived. She finished her breakfast instantly, got up, threw a pouch to the innkeeper and said, "Thanks!" and went out.

Ernest was following him.

"I'd like to train you at the guild building, but it's currently crowded with other rookies. That's why we're going to use my training room."

Karma had a duplex house. It was almost as big as a villa. She also used the basement for training.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

"Stop! You can't just walk in here like that."

It was being protected by a special spell due to the rare items found in the training room. If Ernest had entered the room as it was, it would have been like space for him. Due to the lack of pressure, his veins would burst, his body would swell, and he would suffocate.

"Okay, you can enter now."

"With your permission."

"Do you know how to swim, Ernest?"

"Yes, of course. We used to race frequently with friends during school time."

"Good, now imagine this room is you. It's completely filled with water. The water represents the mana, the room represents your body, and you are the essence of the spell."

"Okay."

"Remember, magic exists consciously. Most monsters can't do magic because of this. It's better to think of yourself as willpower rather than human. Now slowly raise your arms."

He had cast a spell on Ernest to make him levitate in the air.

"Yes, this is more suitable. Try to go out."

"From the door?"

"Which door?"

Ernest had unknowingly closed the door. He was trapped within the four walls.

"But how will I get out?"

"That's how the magic inside works. You are the one who creates and destroys the door. The mana surrounds your entire body like a river flowing inside. Magic follows the current of the river like fish in the river."

"Until the dam gate."

"Exactly! Opening the dam gate is done through prayer."

"But I can't pray."

"Prayer doesn't have to be with words only. The only reason prayers are vocal is to let our desires be known. Good enough wizards can do magic without prayer. So, words will make it easier for you to use magic."

"Can you give me an example prayer?"

"Listen carefully. This was the first spell I ever cast."

She put Ernest on the ground and opened her arms.

"Oh true power beyond the waters, give me your strength and might!"

Water started gushing from both sides of the room.

"Is that all? You're not praying, you're commanding."

"How you pray is up to you. Now you try."

Reflex skill was very useful for Ernest. He couldn't let him go to waste like that.

"Oh powers beyond the darkness-"

He hadn't finished his prayer yet, the lights in the room started to fluctuate, and Karma intervened.

"Ernest! Don't do this!"

Ernest continued his prayer without listening.

"Fill my sword's power with the light's brightness! Let all who taste my sword be struck with terror!"

Enchantment successful.

Item upgraded to Eclipsor

The lights returned to normal.

"You... how did you do that?"

"What do you mean, I did what you told me to."

"You're truly an incredible child. Look at your sword, what have you done to it!"

"I cast a spell, isn't it normal for it to shine?"

"Not with this spell! You've deceived both darkness and light and trapped them in the same sword!"

"I just said a sentence, what's wrong with that?"

"I told you before! Sentences don't have to make sense, you're just attracting attention by talking. It's the wizard who makes the spell, not the words."

"Well, what's the problem then?"
