Waking up

Waking up

I wake up. I'm in a forest. I am completely naked, and it's night. I look around. I can barely see the trees. I am afraid. I cannot hear anything. I check my body. Everything seems to work correctly, and I am neither hungry nor thirsty. I calm myself down. I get up and see some pebbles on the ground. My survival instincts kick in, and I pick up a couple of pebbles just to make myself feel safer. There's nothing but trees around me, and I think I should get somewhere safe. I see a path through the trees, and the moon can barely be seen. I make up my mind to follow the light of the moon, thinking that maybe I can reach safety. I start to walk in that direction. Everywhere around me, there's nothing but trees. After a few steps, I stop. Out of the corner of my left eye, I see it. Bones! Human bones near a big boulder. I'm frightened again.

"Oh my god! What if I die too?"

I try to calm down. The skeleton is already dead, but I am not. I go near it and try to investigate it closely. The skeleton looks human, and the skull is cracked. It seems like it received a fatal wound in battle. Luck seems to be on my side. At the bottom of the skeleton's legs, I can see some rags. There's not much, but I can cover myself with them.

"This will help me against the wind, and I'll feel more protected."

I take the rags from the skeleton and examine them. They look horrible, and God knows how long they've been there, but it's the least I can have. I get up and look around for a weapon, but my luck has already run out. There's nothing useful around. I glance one last time at the creepy skeleton and its cracked skull.

"I don't know what's going on, but I will not end up like this!"

I look up at the moon. It's still in the same spot as earlier. I start walking again, a little faster now that I'm covered. I walk and walk until, after about an hour, I see a clearing.

"The edge of the forest! Finally."

I start to run, hope giving me strength. Just moments later, I arrive. The edge of the forest. I'm finally out of that place. While I expected a better view, my luck still shows no sign of returning. I am out of the forest, and right in front of me, an endless valley stretches out. It seems that the forest was only the beginning of this ordeal.
