Chapter 8 Sacrifice

Flara and Tarot were consumed by their thoughts. Adia got up and grabbed the map. ”I know where to go. Dilos told me where the ruins are.” She said as she grabbed her weapon. Tarot grabbed the book and put it in the satchel. Flara was still holding onto the key and handed it to him. They picked up the remaining objects and silently headed out of the grotto. The wind was not as harsh as they started there trek to the ruins. Flara looked back and noticed the crow was still on top of the grotto's entrance. Flara felt uneasy. She didn’t like the way it stared at them. She was about to say something to Tarot. Suddenly she froze in place. The crow started flapping its wings. They quickly grew larger, extending out into a black mist. The crow’s head exploded into mist with eyes blazing red. Flara stood transfixed by the sight. Tarot looked at her and saw the fear on her face, He turned to see what she was staring at. “Flara run .. Flara run nowwww!” Tarot shouted grabbing her arm. Adia turned and saw the black mist gliding down the mountain side towards them. “It’s Sinister!” Adia shouted, running as fast as she could. The black mist engulfed them. Flara felt the negative energy surrounding them, she had a hard time breathing. Adia tried to fight the mist off, but fell to the ground gasping. Tarot stood over Adia and his necklace started to glow. Flara's quartz started to glow in unison with Tarot’s and the mist backed away. Sinister stood tall before them. He hissed and growled. “I will not let you destroy what he has perfected!” Flara’s eyes widen as he swirled around her and Tarot and started to attack Adia, pulling her life force out of her body. Tarot tried to fight him off and jumped on top of Adia to protect her. Adia's eyes rolled back and a blackness started to form in them. Tarot paniced and removed his necklace. He put it over Adia’s head. Flara screamed “Tarot, No!” She ran towards him but she watched in horror as Sinister punctured Tarot’s chest. Tarot flung his head back and wailed in agony. He looked at Flara, tears streaming as his eyes turned black. The black mist swirled around Tarot, lifting his body up in the air. The satchel fell to the ground and the objects spilled out. Flara's instincts kicked in and she jump to grab Tarot fighting Sinister. The mist pushed her to the ground with a hard thump. With grogginess, she looked up as Sinister flew up high in the air. She watched as Tarot was swallowed up in the mist and both disappeared. Flara laid on the ground in anguish. She looked over at Adia who was choking and gasping for air. Flara crawled to her. “ Sinister took Tarot .” She cried. Adia sat up dazed, looking down at the necklace. “He gave me his necklace.” She whispered. Flara cried and nodded her head.

Adia struggled to get up. An anger pulsed through her veins. “Sinister took him to stop you from changing this world. He's trying to make you weak. We have to continue this journey even without Tarot.” Adia snapped. With tears in her eyes, she collected the items and put them in the satchel. She flung it over her shoulder and looked at Flara. “We need to go!” Flara stood up and followed her. Flara felt useless. How was she suppose to do this alone?

As Flara and Adia continued through the dry and brittle landscape, she saw more destruction and brokenness than she cared to see. She heard crying and screaming in the distance. She looked at the villagers, they were fighting amongst each other, there was no remorse or shame. As she looked over at the small, huddled of villagers , she noticed something she hadn't seen before. Among all the inhabitants in this world, there wasn't a single one who looked young. No children were running through the streets, no people held any near them. Flara's mind started to wonder why this was. The possible answers made her shudder. What had they done to them, was all she could think. Flara couldn’t have imagine bringing up children in this world, then she thought of Tarot being here. So young, so innocent. And it was all taken away with evil and darkness. Sinister had worked to create lies and confusion. He made them believe there was no such thing as hope or unity. The more she saw of the land, the more she feared Sinister. He was wicked and he was cunning, but something inside her wanted justice and truth. The citizens needed to be set free from the chains that Sinister had bound them with. The more Adia and Flara traveled the fierier her passion got for the citizens of this world and against Sinister. They traveled for a while until they reached the ruins. It was cold, dark, damp, and unstable. From the outside the sound of rocks falling and moving was clearly heard. Adia looked Flara in the eyes. Flara knew from Adia’s look that this was the only way. They sat down to rest. “Are you ready for this?” Adai asked, looking at Flara with concern in her eyes. “Yes, but what I find strange is that Sinister mentioned a 'he'. He said 'I will not let you destroy what he perfected.'” A seriousness came over them. “When we were looking through the journal, the ambassador was missing. Dilos found her daughter and the baby as well as my mother and Tarot’s parents, but the ambassador was not mentioned.” Flara got up and walked towards the the ruins entrance. Adia got up and grabbed her makeshift spear. “Do you think the ambassador is part of this change?” “I’m not sure but I hope we can get the answers we need.” They both took a deep breath and went inside.

The hard part was that there really was no way to get light. So, they had to keep walking and listen to sounds to stay clear of falling rocks. They kept walking until they saw something that Flara had never encountered but Adia knew all too well. A black light. It was clearly different from the other places in the cave as it allowed for sight, but just barely. They followed the light to it’s brightest point and found Sinister hovering near Tarot who was laying limp against rock wall. Flara did everything she could to hold herself from running and embracing Tarot. She could see his weakness and she could feel his pain. She knew he was still alive, but she also felt hatred and negativity that pierced her soul and spirit. Adia and Flara stood behind a pillar, trying to figure out what to do next. Flara knew that she was drawing from Tarot’s spirit and she had to use all her strength to keep her from letting Tarot transfer his feelings to her. Adia was well trained, but Sinister was very powerful and was clearly guarding Tarot as he sucked the life out of him. Flara had taught Tarot the ways of life from her world. She knew she wasn’t prepareed for this. She had to do something. Cupping her necklace in her paw, she stepped out of the shadows. Sinister turned to stare at her, his eyes glowing a deep crimson. Adia whispered loudly “Flara! What are you doing!”

Before Adia could stop her, Flara ran past Sinister, quickly taking off her necklace and putting it on Tarot. Tarot fell to the ground, the black mist leaving his eyes. Sinister laughed. He picked up the now defenseless Flara and slammed her against the wall where Tarot once was. She felt negativity consume her. But she looked at Tarot with eyes that said 'this needs to happen'. Then Flara’s eyes turned white. Her body lacked Tarot’s strength to fight. She had never been exposed to so much negativity at one time. She started shaking and straining. Her body could not take it. Tarot watched as Flara’s body went limp and Sinister turned to Tarot with a wide and wicked grin. Flara’s pureness gave him extra power. Sinister threw Adia and Tarot against a rock wall. Tarot looked up and saw the door to the chamber room. He grabbed Adia’s arm and ran towards it. Tarot reached into the satchel that was slung over Adia's shoulders and grabbed the enchanted key. Sinister was right behind them, his tentacles grabbing their waists. Tarot fought, racing to the door and put the key in and turned it. A bright, blue light shot out like a laser, pushing Sinister back and leaving him suspended in the air. Adia and Tarot went through the door and closed it, both leaning against it and taking deep breaths. Tarot sunk to the ground and sobbed. His heart ached for Flara, her love for him, her pureness. It over whelmed him with grief. Adia consoled him, tears in her eyes. Tarot stuttered catching his breath. “Dilos .. and now Flara ... how can I do this?” He cried cupping his face. Adia hugged him and whispered. “We have to do this for Flara, Dilos, your parents and everyone in this world. She sacrificed herself so you can finish it all.” They sat in silence and looked around the small room, noticing there was no way out. No doors, only pillars with strange symbols. Tarot pulled out Dilos' journal and looked at the map, But the map didn’t show anything other than the chamber room. He felt defeated. Adia got up and stared at the symbols that looked familiar to her. The Satchel started to glow. Tarot pulled out the orb Nova gave him and a red fog swirled inside it. Then he heard Nova’s voice. “Tarot, I need you to be strong. Flara’s sacrifice was needed. This is not something I could tell you both before.“ Adia joined him as they both watched the mist swirling in a clock wise motion.“ Tarot you need to start the process of writing the new rules for this world. Only you can do this. Flara knew this deep down in her heart. That’s why she gave you the necklace. However, Sinister does not understand the power of her sacrifice. Your rules will weaken Sinister’s Spirit. He will have no knowledge of this and you will have power over him. Once you have done this, bring Flara’s body back to Love and Nurture. Do not be afraid. What you will find will surprise you. You must be guided by feelings and energy.” The mist dissolved and the orb's glow dimmed.

Tarot had no idea what Nova meant about the rules. What was he supposed to write and how would this weaken Sinister?
