Chapter 9: Resolve

Cassius spotted his friend out on the terrace overlooking the technological wonder that is the territory of Uraeus. Pushing through the crowd of people celebrating Bonrue's inauguration Cassius made his way towards the glass doors. Bonrue's home sat on a hill that provided a glorious view of the city. The lights of the skyline almost seem to dance as they shimmered in the distance. "Beautiful night huh rue?" Cassius slapped his hand on his friend's shoulder and noticed Bonrue's cup was still full. "You okay man? It's not like you to leave a drink un-drunk." Bonrue, eyes still focused on the city chuckled. "Can you believe it? We made it. After all this time, after all we've been through,we're finally here. At the top of the world." "Yeah.” Cassius answered. "And after tomorrow you'll see how high the top really is. But that's something to drink to. So what else is on your mind?" Bonrue took a deep breath. "How's the girl?" Cassius finished off his drink before responding. "She's made a full recovery and is being looked after at the orphanage. What's the big deal about her anyway?" "She's a key to the future. Can't you just look at your future potentials and see?" Bonrue replied. "I don't like looking to far forward, ruins the surprise. I'm a live in the moment kind of guy." Cassius was now sipping Bonrue's drink. Bonrue turned his attention back to the skyline. "But don't worry Rue, I trust you. So whatever you got cooking up you know I'll back you." Bonrue smirked. "Even if we have to fight the other World Kings?" Cassius put his drink down. "Especially if we have to. I like what they got going on but that doesn't mean I'd put them before you." "You're too loyal Cass, I wouldn't ask that of you anyway. Just know if that time comes you don't have to, I've accepted what I must do and any repercussions born from it." Bonrue's resolve was iron clad and Cassius could feel it. "Like I said Rue, I'm a live in the moment kind of guy so it is what it is when it is." Bonrue chuckled and the two of them just watched the skyline in silence as the party continued behind them.
