1. Character Choice

Who shall this story follow? One of these four characters shall be our protagonist, but - fret not - this need not mean that the others will not show up in the future. Time will tell.

I would like to remind you that there's no wrong choice here. Choose the protagonist which you think will make for the most interesting story!

1. THE SANGUINE

Name: Melissa Fabrícia Fernandes Guerra

Age: 12

Associations: Spring, Air, Hearts, Blood

Personality: Mel is a cinnamon roll, a social butterfly and a tough cookie. As a queen bee she is a kindly monarch, the heart of her large social circle, cheerful and ever ready to mediate between her friends. However, she is also ingenuous and impulsive. Yet there is strength in her smile, and she can keep it even through the darkest times. Likes the colors yellow and red.

Appearance: Short for her age, with wide and very light brown eyes. Her skin is a deep tan and her hair is a wavy silky black. Likes to wear sundresses but isn't picky with clothes

2. THE CHOLERIC

Name: Richard Matsumoto

Age: 17

Associations: Summer, Fire, Diamonds, Yellow Bile

Personality: A quiet guy, broody, irritable but not as aggressive as he looks, yet he does carry an anger deep down inside. His teachers and fellow students know him as a delinquent, but from his point of view does not look for trouble as much as it follows him. He can be hard to make friends with yet he is loyal to a fault - when his friends get into fights he is there to have their backs. An hard worker, to help out his family he works as much as he can, but because of this his grades at school are much worse than they could be. He loves his mother and his many younger siblings - and they love him, but his mother is also very critical of his behavior. Likes the color red.

Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

Appearance: Ricky has a mix of Asian and Caucasian features, thick eyebrows and a resting angry face. Short cropped black hair and coal black eyes. Athletic but not quite tall, hardy knuckles and an ugly scar on his left ear and the back of the neck, from a knife slash. Dresses in whatever.

3. THE MELANCHOLIC

Name: Sylvia Stirling

Age: 26, but who is counting?

Associations: Autumn, Earth, Spades, Black Bile

Personality: Quiet, introverted and with heavy social anxiety. Can get too caught up in details. Slacker, pop-cultured nerd who reads way too many trashy webnovels. Working a dead-end job and a lifelong lack of friends have made her a pessimist. Yet - she is hopeful. She has started to try to get out of her shell and change her life around. She thinks she knows how weak-willed she is, yet she has more spine than she thinks. Does not like the color grey but wears it a lot.

Appearance: Unhealthy pale skin, disheveled dark brown hair and sleep-deprived eyes. Flabby, hardly exercises. Wears whatever is most comfortable.

4. THE PHLEGMATIC

Name: Ethelred Irving

Age: 67

Associations: Winter, Water, Clubs, Phlegm

Personality: Gentle and genteel, old but not faded. A retired family doctor, Ethan loves to entertain his large number of grandchildren at his country house on holidays. To his family he is a mediator and a pillar of strength. Often he likes to affect eccentricity, which can make strangers underestimate him. At his core he retains a deep well of calm, which can let him appear unflappable even at the worst of circumstances. Contradictorily, he can be too willing to compromise with others sometimes, and sometimes he can be a stubborn old man about certain things. Likes the colors blue, green and white.

Appearance: Ethan is a tall and thin gentleman, old but finely aged. Black skin and a head of short, coily white hair. His clean-shaven face is lined with laugh lines, he has a strong jaw but a hunched posture. Kindly eyes are framed by weather-worn skin and by thin-rimmed glasses. Likes to walk with a cane which he thankfully doesn't need that much just yet. However, old age has already brought with it plenty of joint pain, weak sight and other problems. Dresses formally even at home and likes to wear perfume, specially to church. Likes hats.

And a question to be answered in the comments: should the story be written in first, second or third person?
