The Governor

The Governor

Choirs sang and Bells rang as the new governor rode into the capitol atop his electro-magnetic hover chair. After the governor rode his way to the pedestal below the holy Fortunian cross, the man edged up to the microphone.

Silence

As he uttered those letters that seemed to combine into a word, the thousands who had gathered for the occasion suddenly and simultaneously ceased speech.

I, a Vocalizer, having been tasked by the holy Emperor to provide jurisdiction to this... colony, have graced you Regulars with my presence. Anyhow, my rule shall be absolute and my orders dutifully carried out. For The Emperor and the utmost holy Fortuna.

As the man, the Vocalizer, concluded his speech of declaration, the crowd spontaneously returned to chatter and praise, as if their very own actions had not been unwillingly manipulated and dominated. As the governor turned his back on the crowd and prepared his exit and eventual introduction to his office and position, the dreamer sprung into action, pushing through the crowd and preparing to leap up to the stage. The governor's robotic guards sprung into action, leaping into the knives in hope of protecting their owner. One knife struck a guard in the abdomen, but the other flew unhindered.

STOP

The governor muttered as he twisted around; that should have been enough to make a flimsy knife made of-

The knife was not in the air, not floating as it should have, not stopped.

It was impossible. Vocalization carried the voice of the goddess Fortuna herself. It was impossible.

As the governor looked down, confused, he saw it. A knife made of metal so reflective it could blind. He saw it, a knife through his heart.
