Dream

He awoke in confusion, had he not just fallen asleep? He moved slightly, something seemed strange, where had his blanket gone to? And why was the mattress under his body so hard and rough? Slowly his head rose, ‘strange how can I raise my head like this while lying on my stomach?’, he thought.

He tried to lift his right arm to scratch his head but somehow it was really hard to get it there… Slowly he opened his eyes taking a peek. Everything around him was bathed in a mild green light, the white walls of his room had been replaced by the view of large trees filled healthy green foliage, the big bed had disappeared, and he was lying comfortably rolled up between the roots of a majestic oak that was towering over his head. It‘s branches spread wide and it stood there, left alone in the middle of a small lush hill filled with green grass and a million of booming flowers. It towered there over all the other trees, king of the forest in the middle of its flowering garden.

Stunned at first by this view, he couldn’t but stop to enjoying the beauty of it all. Then finally he got a grasp of himself and looked down at his hands. The hands were missing, so were his arms, they had been replaced by grey hairy limbs and a pair of cute small paws. Shocked he tried to sit up, but he somehow failed to lean back and fell over. “What the bloody hell is going on here? Have I died in my sleep and reincarnated into a stinking dog? Like in one of those Webnovels I read? That can’t be right, I am still so young and have so much yet to live and experience… And also there hasn’t been a stupid system notification yet… I just hope this is not china, I don’t want to end up as a barbecue.” His thought went crazy trying to rationalise what was happening to him.

Feeling thirsty, he slowly tried to get up. Still confused about what was going on and not used to this strange new body of his, he fell over again and again. Finally, he was able to stand on his four legs, slowly he advanced. After a few steps he tripped and rolled down the hill, crashing into one of the trees down there. Luckily he did not get hurt, and was able to stand back up. Not only was he not used to this body, but also it seemed that it was still quite young and frail. And so he advanced half walking, half crawling through the woods, pausing from time to time for a while to take a short rest. As he went on, he felt more and more thirsty. Luckily after what seemed to be an eternity to him, he heard the sound of splashing of some water. Crawling into the direction the noise came from, there between the trees he saw a tiny stream flowing into a large pond. The scenery was quite beautiful, reeds intermixed with other plants that he did not recognise were growing on the edges of the pond and the waters were filled with water lilies and lotuses.

He went up to the water through the reeds with all the energy he had left and tried to drink some water. But it was not as easy as one might think. Having paws instead of hands, he could not make a cup with them to drink from. So he carefully leaned his head towards the water, as to not fall in, and put his muzzle down into the water to drink. But the only result was water flowing into the tip of his nose making him retreat, sneezing all over the place for a whole minute.

Carefully he though about how dogs, would drink. If he remembered well, they would make a spoon with their tongue and lift it into their maw. So carefully he advanced back to the water. After a few tries, he was finally able to sip a bit of water. It did not take a long time and it felt very easy to drink that way, almost natural.

After having satisfied his thirst, he finally looked at his image mirrored in the waters. He sighted as he felt relieved a bit, ‘At least I am not some stupid dirty dog’. Indeed, what he saw was not a dog but a small wet wolf pup that had barely got his teeth. He shook the water of his pelt and admired his reflection for while. He tried bearing his teeth and made strange poses, felling quite good with his cute but ferocious looks. If anyone had filmed this little wolf doing this, it would have probably become a most popular video on the internet.

Slowly he felt overcome by dizziness. Completely exhausted from this small adventure of his, he slowly dragged his small wolf body of his away from the pond. Looking around for a good place to sleep, he saw an old willow that did not seem to bad. After curling up between its roots, the little wolf fell asleep almost instantly.

Rana woke up in a scare. Immediately he sat up looking around. The white blank walls of his room were back, his cloth that he had left lying around his room were still where he had left them. His warm plushy blanket still covered his legs. He lay back down, and looked at the time 6:30 still a bit of time to laze around. But somehow he felt restless, the dream he had dreamt just felt way to realistic as if he had really become a wolf. Since he felt unsettled, Rana stood up and went to the kitchen to drink a glass of water. He then went to the bathroom. Taking a warm shower, the dream slowly faded to the back of his thoughts, and he was able to relax.
