Prologue

Being a single mother, his mom tried to find someone to rely on, --and failing miserably at that. After all, being poor and not really pretty, rare would be the men ready to support her and her child.

Despite all that, he could see her trying her best to provide to him and, because he was 10 years old, his mom categorically refused to let him work even the tiniest of job, even if it was to help her. In spite of that, he would always find a way to get odd jobs here and there. Mowing the neighbor's lawn, cleaning another's yard, things like that.

He knew his mom knew that he was working behind her back, but she wasn't saying anything. Nevertheless, he could see in her eyes the guilt of not being able to give him much of anything she believed her child deserved. To not be able to allow him to live a normal childhood of innocence and joy.

That's why, to entertain him when he had nothing to do, she had bought, with the little of spare money she could afford, something that had opened a new world of wonder for him, the – his sacrosanct manga.

He was fascinated by it, by the multitude of fantastical worlds present in some of them. Growing up, and doing the more and more physically demanding job, thus gaining a little more money, he continued to read them, discovering in passing their light novel version and other unique stories. He was particularly fond of the isekai genre and their worlds, it made him leave the real world and live another life.

he found it utterly ridiculous when random dudes got to live the dream. As if a totally a random guy who did absolutely nothing to deserve such a chance to a new beginning would get this opportunity among the more deserving people.

One day, his mom said that she was going to a job interview for a work proposition she got recently. After this day, his situation became way better, with money flooding their home. His home being by the way the cave of the only and best friend of his mother. Make no mistake, she wasn't in any way better of than them. She was living of the inheritance of her husband and for some reason didn't have a job.

Anyway, let's be frank , it was extremely fishy, but he trusted his mom and her judgement. With this money, they finally got to live normal lives so it was all right. They even bought internet and he even got himself a cellphone! It was the first time he was on internet, and suddenly, he wanted to learn. He didn't know why, but an uncontrollable urge coming from deep inside himself demand it. He just couldn't understand how just about all of humanity knowledge was available freely and nobody ever questioned that. But still, it remained a chance for him, and so he learned.

Never having a chance to go to school because he had to work, he had only learned how to write and read from his mother. He soaked all the knowledge in his brains, from basic arithmetic to complex algebra, from how a fire is created to how everything is composed of invisible particles similar to building block. He found it fascinating how everything is connected in a manner or another, he wanted more knowledge, and more he got.

In a shocking 3 years, he caught up with the school program and more. He thought that things now were way better than before. He liked his simple routine, studies, work, read manga as much as he wanted , sleep – he could finally eat his fill. He couldn't do even half of that three years ago.

So, imagine how shocked he was when, on his 18 birthday, a group of thugs broke inside of his mom friend's home and his cave of a house demanding of him if he was a certain bitch's son, gun pointed at him. Luckily, his mom and her friend were not at home or the situation would had have been worse. He had tried to calm them, asking that they be more clear. He was used to criminel and such, this sort of people would always roam around the poor after all.

One of the thugs had to be new, because he had quite the easy trigger , just like that, he got angry and shot him in neck. When he thought about it, he had lived a pretty pathetic life. Not really his fault, his life had just been put on the right track three years ago after all, even if on borrowed time. But when everything was going dark, he got a second chance, at a price.
