Chapter 1

Lukas's last memories were of him drowning on his own blood and a coldness encompassing all. Now, he was not in his cave anymore, but in a strange space with nothing but stars everywhere. And he was alive.

"No, you are not really alive right now. Not yet at least." A melodious, soothing voice called to Lukas from behind.

Being curious about the meaning of the freaking words just said to him. Lukas turned around to see exactly who was talking to him.

"She", or at least Lukas assumes she was a she, was something you could call with certitude "perfection". Short silver hair reaching only to her shoulder, angular face, skin without blemishes and silver eyes so deep they seemed to contain the universe in them. Yep, definitely a goddess. Plus, she could apparently read his mind.

With a warm smile that literally put the stars around him to shame. She spoke again. "You are right, my child. I am one of the original gods that supervise and seek to preserve the balance of this realm, Vidria."

"Its cool and all, but why me?" Lukas said with a clear confusion. "You didn't say it yet. However, I am going to have a second chance right? So, at the risk of repeating myself, why me? I've always found it ridiculous how ordinary people got this chance over all other. It would be better if you gave this chance to someone more deserving, like my mom." His voice cracked a bit at that.

Now that Lukas thought about it, the "bitch" his murderers were talking about could only be his mother, Felicia. So, he didn't make false hopes. His mother was probably already dead like him. He didn't know why they killed him for something his mother did, but if they still killed him for that, they would surely kill her so, his mother was probably already dead. Yet, it didn't change the fact that If someone was really deserving of this chance, it was her. She was someone special, working her ass off just to provide to him and using her bit of change to buy him entertainment. She was smart in always founding new ways of making just a bit more money for his sake.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

He wasn't angry in the least that she finally found a way to make them live normally. With abundant food and without needs. To prove even more how deserving she was and how undeserving he was. In the three years before his death and when money was not in need. She would buy tons of food to give to the needy. She was so kind that just by being in the same situation they were in before, she would empathize with them and would try to help. He didn't do any of that. So why him and not her?

Listening to his internal rambling, the goddess gave him a sad smile "I will be honest with you. You are right in saying that your mother was more deserving than you, your mother was indeed the first choice. But you see, us gods, to summon you to this realm, need to tear you off the cycle of reincarnation and, never able to reincarnate again, the soul will inevitably die at the end of this life."

"Wh-what does that mean" Lukas had a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach with how she spoke of his mother being the first choice and how after that she said that by being brought here, the soul will truly die after this life .

She gave him an even sadder smile and continued. "In compensation and to keep the balance of all things. The gods and the world have to grant wishes in a certain capacity to the victim for taking away their chance of all future reincarnation."

There was no need to say more, Lukas knew what happened. Falling to his knees, he tried to hold back his tears. Needless to say, it was a fruitless endeavor. He wasn't bawling his eyes out, it was just a silent, calm grieving.

"Oh mom, why did you do this? Always giving of yourself for me. Have you not given enough?" Trying to regain his composure, after several moments , he sighed "I guess your supposedly "absolute" wish cannot even revive a destroyed soul, right?"

She made a bitter face and shook her head. Not even trying to justify why.

Lukas was not surprised. If there was a manner, she wouldn't be so sad about it.

After a bit more time, she softened her face, and said. "Part of her wish was to relay you why she did it and a last message. Nevertheless, I would have done so even if she hadn't wished for it."

"Wait, I want more time for myself." Lukas hadn't finished grieving and was still overwhelmed. Dying, having a chance to reincarnate for real, with a wish too, and knowing that he had this chance because of his mother basically sacrificing herself.

Letting go of her bitter face, she answered "Of course, my child. Here, we have all the time in the world."

So with this, Lukas tried to take in all the crazy and not so funny things that happened. Finding the courage to hear the final message of his mother little by little.
