Invasion (Part 1)

Invasion (Part 1)

Pyr walks through a thick layer of snow. He didn't know why, but he kept on walking. The cold wind keeps on howling while the snow falls on the ground. He shuddered and gasped for air. He felt like he couldn't breathe. He yelled for help but alas, nobody was there to hear it. Even if there was, the wind would deplete his cry.

As he continued his way, he spotted an abandoned village. He was surprised but didn't care less and headed there. Immediately, he entered into one of the houses nearest to him. Though it was abandoned, there were several things left behind. He took a blanket and wrapped himself with it. Then, Pyr rests his head on the wooden wall of the house.

Unbeknownst to him, he accidentally dozed off and was woken up to sounds of crackling. He walked outside and noticed the village was set on fire. He stared in horror as a group of people approaches him. He didn't feel safe and ran away from the village. He ran into the dark snowy woods, hoping to outrun them. 'These people... what do they want?' Pyr thought. He was losing his breath with each step he takes. 'This is bad, my body is getting tired.'

Eventually, he drops to the ground. His hands were bright red. He could no longer speak. Unfortunately, he hears the sound of footsteps getting louder and louder behind his back. He turned around to see the group. He backs off, desperately attempting to get away. His efforts turned futile when one of the men pulls his legs closer to him. They grabbed Pyr by his neck and choked him.

He couldn't see their faces because of the darkness surrounding the area. His vision starts to fade, and his body became powerless to stop them.

Pyr screamed at the top of his lungs. His eyes focused to the brick ceiling above him. He touches his neck, squeezing it to make sure he is awake. He needed some time to process what had happened to him. 'It felt too real. It must have been a dream, right?'

He rubbed his eyes and opened the curtains of his window, The light rays penetrates the window and lights up the whole room. He lets out a sigh of relief. "What a beautiful day." He said. He got ready and went out to get some food at a local restaurant. Along the way, he combed his golden hair to look neat. He saw a lot of people coming in and out of the restaurant like usual.

He approaches a familiar old lady that is the cashier. "Hello there." The blonde boy greeted. "Ah! Good morning, young man!" exclaimed the lady as she smiled. She seems to be in a joyous mood. "Granny, how are you? You look dashing today." He complimented. "Oho! I feel really great today because... we got a new hire!" She stated. "A new hire?" Pyr asked.

"Jamie!" She called out a name. A young boy stood next to her. He has blonde hair and was shorter than Pyr. "Look here, this boy came looking for a job around 3 days ago. He told me he just arrived to our small village." Granny continued. "Hello, I am Jamie!" The boy spoke enthusiastically. "That's good, but don't you think he's a bit young? I mean.. he's just a kid." Pyr said. "Don't worry about that. He's 16. I am sure he can help around here. He's got the spirit!" She remarked.

"I may look small, but I am not weak." Jamie stated. Pyr stared into the blue eyes of the boy, filled with determination. He smiled. "Okay then. If that's what you want, then who am I to stop you?" Granny then cuts off the conversation with a couple coughs. "Anyways, umm.. Liam. I want to ask you a favor to tour young Jamie here around. You know, for him to get familiar with this place... today." She said.

Pyr got confused for a bit but quickly remembered. 'Liam? Ah, how could I forget? I used a fake name to hide my true identity here.' He thought. "Sure thing, Gran. You can trust me to do it. Well, let me eat first." He said. "I knew I can count on you." She smiled.

Pyr ordered some food and sat at a table by a window. He looked outside and pondered about the dream he experienced this morning. He found it weird that he is getting nightmares despite never really dreamt about anything. 'What did the dream mean? I remember I was walking through snow... and.. there was fire. After that, I was..' Chills ran down his spine remembering what happened. He shook his head, brushing it off.

Suddenly, he heard the sound of tapping next to him. "Your order is ready, sir." Jamie said. "Thank you, Jamie." Pyr replied as he brought the plate and cutlery closer to dig in. "Uh.. Mr. Liam, do you mind if I sit with you?" He asked. Pyr spat out his food in surprise. "Oh, is that a no?" He continued. "No.. no no. I was just surprised you would address me that way." He assured. Jamie got confused with his statement. "Well, you see.. I am 18 years old, alright? So, you can call me brother... or.. I prefer you just drop the formalities.."

"Ohhh, alright. I hear you." Jamie complied. After they settled down, jamie sat with Pyr. Pyr continued to munch on his food. For a bit there was silence, until Jamie starts to ask, "L-Liam, where are you from?" Pyr hesitated to answer his question but played it cool. "Why do you want to know?" He wondered. "Well, I might assume the wrong things but you look like a foreigner." He replied. "You have a good eye. I hail from Yawron. Quite the cold country I would say." Pyr replied.

"Wow, so you travelled here, alone? Since when? And why?" Jamie continued asking. "I had lived here around 6 months ago. Why? Well, i thought here would be good for opportunities." He continued. "I wish I could have travelled overseas. I really want to experience something new in my life. But before I can do that, I must work hard to earn a lot of money." Jamie said. 'Is that the reason he's so determined to work? Just to travel? Really, that's his motivation?' Pyr thought in his head.

'I feel really bad. I have a lot of money to help him, but I can't just give it to him.. What if he finds me suspicious? I can't blow my cover just for some boy. Maybe I can just support his ambition.' Pyr smiled. "That's a.. really cool ambition, Jamie. I'm sure you could achieve it if you keep on working hard and never give up." He stated. Jamie's eyes sparkled with joy. 'Guess that's effective, huh.'

Later on, they left the restaurant to continue the tour as promised by Pyr. He introduced Jamie to the people he was closest to, vital locations such as the doctor's office and the barracks along with a brief history of the village. "Jamie, are you aware of the village's name origin?" Pyr asked. "Freyhorn? It is quite the interesting name." Jamie replied. "Frey is translated into lord. It is often associated with the god of harvest and peace from the mythology of my country. Hence, this village is a supply for the kingdom's raw resources." He explained.

Pyr stood by a river. He pointed his finger towards the direction in front of him and said, "Look over there, Jamie. That.. is the castle of the royal family." Jamie looked over with a blank expression. "This village used to also be the place where the kings, queens, dukes, lords, all of the nobles gather for an audience. If someday they would come to visit us, then that's your chance to appease them for work." He continued. "Hmm, thank you for the advice. I'll try my best." Jamie murmured.

It was late evening by now. The sky was a bright yellow hue with a mix of orange and red. The wind breezed by the shoulders of the boys and billowed through their hair. Pyr continued on to stare at the castle. Jamie didn't want to be awkward and waited quietly for his orders. He inched closer to the boy in front of him. Out of nowhere, he felt chills in his body and kneeled on the ground. Pyr puts his hand on his shoulder wondering what's wrong.

"Ah, L-Liam. I.. I don't feel so good." mouthed Jamie. "Are you okay? Do you need a doctor? Pyr whispered. "N-no.. it's not like that.. I just.. have a bad feeling." He assured. "Huh?" He commented. After he said that, a loud sound can be heard from a distance. It sounded like a loud bang or an explosion. It was so loud that they can even feel the ground shaking. When they came to their senses, Pyr looked over to the castle covered with a huge cloud of dust. He immediately took Jamie's hand and ran from the scene. He got back into the village and warned everybody of a possible attack.

Everyone was in disbelief as soon as he said that. The majority were in denial but there were a few that believed in him. "What are you talking about, huh? What do you mean an attack is coming?" One of them shouted. "Didn't you hear the loud sound earlier? It sounded like an explosion!" Pyr yelled. Everybody gasped. "Explosion? How did you come to that conclusion? Maybe it is just the military testing out a new weapon." argued another. "Why would they test a new weapon on castle grounds? Don't you find that odd?" He questioned back.

The argument that occurred has caught the attention of the knights patrolling the village. One of them dressed in a black turtleneck with a sheathed sword approached the crowd. "Calm down, everybody! What's going on here?!" He shouted. "This crazy boy suddenly came up to us, spouting about nonsense about an incoming attack!" A lady screamed. The knight gazed upon the boy with eyes of amber. "Is that true?" He asked. "Yes. The castle was seemingly blown up out of nowhere. I saw it with this boy next to me." Pyr emphasized. The knight could only scratch his head from the situation. He didn't know what to do either. His instincts believed that the boy is telling a bit of truth.

"Everybody, pack your essentials immediately! After that, gather in front of the town hall!" He ordered. All of them nodded in agreement and ran quickly to their houses. "Jamie, get your stuff and gather as soon as possible, okay?" Pyr said. He nodded and hurried to his house.

"Hazelcoast City has came under attack."
