Aaron slowly walked to his new house.
He was trying to add up all of the benefits that the unique healer class presented to him.
Okay so… so long as I have mana my reliance on health pots is nullified.
He glanced at the Mana stat.
-Mana: 255/270-
Healing word I (Unique)
Heals 5 HP. Costs 20 MP
Also there is this.
Lay on hands I (Unique)
Passively your hands are a fountain of health, after holding them to one place for over five seconds the ‘magic’ starts to work.
Well I guess there’s no harm in trying this on myself.
He thought for a long moment.
So if this works how I think it does I should place my hands above a body part, limb or organ that is, in some way or another, damaged or not functioning properly.
Okay let’s try my chest that should be near enough my lungs and they are a pain to me all the time.
Aaron walked home with his hands over his chest, he had them in a position of prayer, clasped together.
I guess this is kind of fitting seeing as I am now a healer.
--
Aaron’s home really wasn’t that bad.
It had a fireplace.
Some shelves.
A squeaky bed.
Coarse blankets.
A slightly leaky roof above the big table in his dining hall.
An outhouse.
And a very sexually active mouse population.
Yep.
The house was a shit show, teeming with mice that had the libido of your uncle when you where younger.
On the plus side though Aaron’s little experiment had proven a great success.
While his HP still dropped, it’s drop was now significantly slower as he concentrated on channeling Lay on Hands into his chest.
Also the racking pain that his cancerous lungs caused him was somewhat dulled. Not that he felt much pain these days anyway.
What would have at one point caused him to clutch himself and fall over in pain was just an annoying and still extremely painful pricking.
He had just learned to ignore this normal level of pain.
Aaron had kind of gotten used to it, as it really was just a part of his life.
Nice.
This house is a bit of a fixer-upper but I think I can manage, seeing as I can now have on command Overhealth without wasting potions for menial tasks.
Keeping himself topped up wasn’t a real problem any more as he could just use Healing word on himself. Well it was less of a problem.
With his current Mana pool he could cast Healing word a total of thirteen and a half times, netting him 65 HP with 10 Mana to spare.
His Mana regen was extremely high for someone his level, well in comparison to berserker Aaron anyway, at a whopping 45 Mana an hour.
Which meant over the course of the entire day Aaron could regenerate 270 HP with just his natural regeneration alone, this with only the use of the spell Healing word, not taking into account the regen from meditation and his Lay on hands passive.
But wait there is another huge advantage on his side.
Superb Healing affinity (Unique)

Any healing spells, innate abilities, skills or passives you use or cast are twice as strong.
+100% HP to healing.
With this he could regenerate twice as much netting him a total of 540 HP over the course of the day.
This is slowly getting a bit too strong, I mean I do kind of have cancer and that doesn’t seem to want to go away any time soon, and my combat capabilities will still be sub par when comparing myself to other classes of the say level. My spells deal no damage and my physical stats although greater than they were before won’t be great enough for me to be anything but a glorified self repairing damage sponge. Still this might be the way to go. Training up my body to take more and more beatings, soak up more and more damage and upgrade passives that will ensure any attack that land on me won’t be over anything that I can just heal.
He looked down at his ribs, he had the figure of a malnourished child right now.
Can’t say this is the body of a paladin as of yet, and shit will be hard straight from the get go without any physical or magical advantages.
My main strategy for dealing with enemies will have to be outlasting them.
With healing this shall become easier and easier, I guess there is no time for thinking this over too much, I just need to get out there and get the living daylights beat out of me.
Aaron stood there in his living room just staring at the wall with his hands held over his chest, a plan of pain and misery congealing in his mind.
--
It was now the end of another day, Aaron had returned from the field with new cil and a ton of Bloomflowers, his harvesting speed had risen exponentially.
With his new and enhanced stats he took on more slime than ever, intentionally letting them hit him as he fought them, alternating between a combination of bare fists and kicks and his trusty staff.
He was currently making his way over to Art’s potions to break the news.
With his new-found power he had decided to completely scrap the idea of becoming a herbalist himself.
Yet he wasn’t about to let go of the opportunity to learn how to make potions.
You never know, some day these may be useful.
“Hiya there son, how’s the slime hunting going for you?” Art had grown even more fond of Aaron as his stocks were brimming with produce ready for colder seasons, he was also looking forwards to getting such a diligent apprentice.
“Yeah about the learning how to make potions. I have all of the materials that you requested so we can get on with it… buuuuut… emmmm… yeah, I uh don’t really want to be a herbalist.”
Art turned around in shock. His head had spun so fast from the inventory that he was putting away that Aaron thought that this man surely would have killed himself with such a swift neck movement.
“eh, wai-, huh, wait what… you eh do- don- don’t want to, as in no, or you do really want to?”Art spluttered out.
Oh shit, I think this guy really wanted me as an apprentice. I mean he had started calling me son and stuff like two days back so it kind of makes sense but I never really thought his feelings for my work ethic were this strong. Feels kind of awkward to disappoint him like this but pursueing this profession without the class is meh. I mean even with the class there are soo many other things that I could be doing. Really, it’s un-unique, boring, useless in combat.
He grimaced at the thought of turning Art down but it had to be done.
The class and everything it entails is just all cons and little to no pros, sorry Art but we were not meant to be.
“Yeah…no.”Aaron finally replied after a long period of silence were the two men just stared at each other.
“So no as in you don’t not want to or as in you do not want to?”Art was still in denial his voice getting more higher pitched and desperate.
“I do not want to become a herbalist.”
“Oh great heavens”
THUMP
Art had feinted.
Wow, this guy was really counting on me joining him.
He put down all of the produce that he had on the counter and scribbled onto a note which me placed beside the pile.
The note read.
-AA-
In this worlds language.
He had decided that this would be his new signature.
It was perfect.
Short.
Signifying his name.
And required only learning to write a single letter of the alphabet.
Aaron really had better things to do at the moment.
Like trying to not die of cancer.
And lengthening his expiration date required for his body to be stronger.

Aaron concluded his day by looking at his status one last time before bed.
“Status.” He whispered, letting his body sink into the mattress.

This day had been fruitful, he had allowed himself to take damage, acquiring a new passive Iron skin and upgrading his old one Fists of steel by using mostly his punches to defeat his enemies.
Iron skin I (common)
You can now be called a veteran of battle, usually this would take quite a long time to acquire as not everyone enjoys taking a beating, but you, you crazy masochist bastard have done it in the course of a few days. Your skin is strong like Iron. Don’t think your special, any melee class gets this at some point.
+0.1 endurance +5 HP
Nice, tomorrow I’m gonna go shopping for some gear. I don’t really enjoy looking like a murder hobo. And it’ll be time to try Blood pact. Hopefully I don’t accidentally kill myself. But who knows maybe I’ll find a way fo-… ahhh forget it, I’m to tired now for scheming plans, goodnight mice.
Sleep embraced him as he closed his eyes.
