As John followed the teenager through the sea of books, he eventually stopped at a area with multiple pile of books on the floor.
“We are here” (Teenager)
“I see... may I ask what should I call you?” (Spiral)
“O... I didn't tell you my name yet, it's Kite please to meet you” (Kite)
“Hello Kite my name is Spiral” (Spiral)
“First off Spiral do you know of the Index skill?” (Kite)
“Whats that?” (Spiral)
“I expected as much... It's a skill all librarians require, since it would be impossible to find anything in this library without it” (Kite)
“I see, so is it possible for me to learn it?” (Spiral)
“Yes, though since the head master isn't here you going to have to have to manually learn it...” (Kite)
Spiral didn't know but the head master was able to grant any librarian the Index skill, but no player in their right mind would want to manually obtain the skill since it had almost no worth. This was because a player could just ask the librarians in the Library to find them any specific book without them needing to actually search themselves, as no player was even allowed to search throughout the library for books themselves in the first place.
“Follow me” (Kite)
Spiral follows Kite even deeper into the sea of trees, and eventually they stop next to a gigantic book that seems to be glowing. Kite had never seen such a gigantic book in his life, while he stared in wonder at the gigantic book he also wondered how was he even going to read it. Kite then signals Spiral to try and read the book, and so Spiral places his hand on the cover and to his surprise it was far lighter then he expected. He lifts the cover and watches as the characters on the front page shifts and turns until they looked like English, and to his surprise it simply read “The Index.”
“The book is amazing right? I thought so too when I first arrived as well, but I didn't need to learn the Index skill manually though since the head master just granted me the skill” (Kite)
“So how am I suppose to learn the Index skill through this book?” (Spiral)
“I was told by the head master that if someone just keeps reading that gigantic book and attempts to memorize the information inside they will eventually learn the Index skill” (Kite)
“I see... Alright here goes nothing!” (Spiral)
“Well while you learn the skill I'll be putting back the books on the shelves, just call if you have any questions. You don't need to yell since I'll hear you through the echoing, since it's basically just us here at this location” (Kite)
“Thanks” (Spiral)
Kites then walks back from where they came, and Spiral begins to read through the index in from of him. The first few pages mentioned that the books in the library are marked with magic to help locate and sort them. The next few pages mentioned that the magic applied to the books also acted as an anti-theft system, since the magic was unique to the library. Though it mentioned that the magic doesn't actually prevent the books from leaving the library, as was why books still could be stolen. This was also why no player was allowed to enter the more rare sections of the library in the first place, but Spiral was granted access to this area by Kite to learn the Index skill.
He then continues to read how the books were organized, and it told of a system where the Index would mark certain areas of the library for were certain subjects of books would be stored. It continues mentioning how subdivisions with subjects were organized in the area, and how the Index would change the placement of books within the area depending on what gets checked out the most. Lastly before it starts mentioning what books are where in the library it talks about how the books are first checked out to the librarian that removed the books, so that if the books could not be found by the Index the last known librarian that saw it was the best bet for locating the book. Then the Index begins the mentioning the books within the subject of General Information in the Library and where they could be found.
After reading through thousands of titles for General Information he found that he was very hungry as his stomach was growling, so he tried to open his inventory for the bread he knew every player started with by saying inventory. He saw a floating box with icons showing the ten loafs of rye bread everyone was given, as well as the flask of water. When Spiral tried to select the loaf of bread he saw something underneath the item icon, and it read “Can Not Decay.” Spiral then withdrew a loaf of bread and the flask of water and began consuming the food before him. He though the bread tasted terribly bland, but the problem was Spiral was not a picky eater so the taste didn't bother him at all.
When he finished the food before him and stored back the water flask, he heard the sounds of footsteps walking towards him. He then saw the figure appear out of the direction he was staring, and as he saw the figure he let out a sigh of relief. This was because he didn't know what to say to the person if it wasn't either the Lady or Kite.
“It's night time, do you want to stay here or go to a Inn?” (Kite)
“I don't have any coins to stay at the Inn...” (Spiral)
“I forgot... well did you want to rest or continue reading the Index, as the library is already closed” (Kite)
“I'm quite tired, so I'll take you up on the offer” (Spiral smiles)
“Alright follow me” (Kite)
Spiral begins following Kite throughout the maze of books, and ends up at a location that looks like a dormitory. Kite then beginning to explain something to him while they walked, since he noticed Spiral was confused at how there was a dormitory inside the library.
“Normally adventurers such as yourselves never gets to stay in the library dormitories, since only librarians are allowed inside. I assume you adventurers think we live in caves or something, since your kind seem to see us only disappear and reappear... “ (Kite)
“Yes I never actually wondered where you librarians lived, I thought you guys lived in a house somewhere around the area.” (Spiral)
“Well some of us do, and some of us don't since we don't either want to or can afford to. Anyways you will be staying in the guest room, as it hasn't been used in sometime. Breakfast is served at sunrise so if you want to eat something in the dinning quarters you should arrive on time. As a temporary librarian you don't need to pay to eat there like every other librarian, now I'll be going to my room now. You will stay in this guest room until your task is done if you wish to stay in the Library, I will wake you up at sunrise since I doubt you will be able to get back to the Index.” (Kite)
“Can I ask you how your able to navigate throughout this maze like Library?” (Spiral)
“I didn't explain that yet did I, well once the Index skill gets past a certain level you will be able to have it guide you to where ever in the library you wish to go. Though you still won't be able to access areas that you aren't permitted to” (Kite)
“I see well I'll get some rest and meet you tomorrow morning” (Spiral)
“Yes goodnight” (Kite)
Spiral watches as Kite leaves, and then enters the guest room he has been assigned. He sees that the room was quite dusty as there hasn't been a library guest for sometime now. He then lies down on the bed and tries to logout by saying “logout”, and the moment he does he is struck with a headache. Awhile after he logged out, he thought to himself “so this is that headache they talked about... If it hurt this bad after a few hours how strong is the headache when your forced out of the game?” He then got out of the capsule and then looked at the time, and it showed that it was around 3 pm which was mind blowing since it felt like he was in the game all day already. He then began to stretch since lying in the capsule for 3 hours caused his body to feel quite stiff. He walks around the house and then used the bathroom, afterward he decides to take a 1 ½ hour nap since his headache hadn't completely gone away.
John then wakes up from the alarm he set for 1 ½ hour and does some stretching before going back inside the capsule. He presses the start button and then sees red, yellow, then green as his vision quickly darkens. Spiral was now in the room he logged off in, and since his room had a window he saw the it was still dark outside. He then sat up and starting to think of what he could do till Kite would come and lead him to the dinning quarters, since he didn't want to accidentally get lost. He expected to have around 1 hour before Kite would arrive, and since being in a dark room with nothing else to do other then to sleep or day dream he decided to meditate instead. John wasn't a master class martial artist nor was he an amateur, he could defend himself against most unarmed assaults if it was directed at him. He sat there meditating for about 30 minutes and no matter what he did he could feel that inside him there was something there that he had never felt before. He then remembered a episode on dragon ball Z where Gohan explained how to draw out your inner energy, as he tried it expecting absolutely nothing for about 20 minutes he heard a knock on the door. He then stops his meditation on trying to draw out whatever he felt that was different in his body, and answers the door.

“Good Morning Kite” (Spiral)
“Good Morning to you as well, let us head to the dinning quarters” (Kite)
Spiral then follows Kite through the dormitory and headed to the area known as the dinning quarters. As they approached the area he could smell something close to baked bread coming from the turn ahead, and was quite giggly inside for being able to eat something that wasn't the rye bread in his inventory. As they turned into the dinning quarters Spiral was quite amazed at what he saw, this was neither due to the food or room but due to the amount of people actually there. Somehow Kite was able to predict what Spiral was thinking since he went and answered a question Spiral would have thought was too impolite to ask.
“You thought there would be around only 4 people here didn't you? Well sad to tell you this but it takes more then 4 people to actually manage a library of this size you know?” (Kite smiling)
“Your right why did I even think I there would be around 4 people sitting here only...” (Spiral reflecting)
“Well lets take a seat there and you can eat whatever you want, since you are a temporary librarian” (Kite)
“Thanks” (Spiral)
Spiral follows kite to the table where they would be eating, as Spiral was sitting down he looked around one more time and saw at least 50 people in the room other then them. He was still sort of shocked that there was so much people in this dinning quarters, he then proceeds to eat the bread, butter, and milk before him. It was quite the treat in his eyes, since the milk was more delicious then he remembered it to be, and the bread and butter was better then any he ever ate before. He then sees a screen pop up before him and stares in wonder at it.
You have eaten the Librarian's Breakfast and will recover health, mana and stamina 50% faster for 24 hours
Spiral didn't know that it was possible to receive buffs from food as the only meal he ate so far in game was the rye bread in his inventory. He didn't know but the Librarian's Breakfast full was as good as it gets when compared to the food buffs obtained from the restaurants in the city. Once he finished his meal he noticed that Kite was also finished with his meal, and Kite was looking at him as if he wanted to say something.
“We should start work soon, since it's probably going to take awhile till you actually learn the Index skill” (Kite)
“Alright, lead the way” (Spiral)
They both stand up and leaves the dinning quarters, and head towards back to the section of the library where the Index was located. They arrive at the Index and Spiral walks towards the Index and continues reading the absurdly long list of books and where they were located. This went on for 1 month in game, and so Spiral logged in and out of the game every night for what seemed like his new daily routine. He ate his meals dependent on when it turned to night in the game, and rested only as much as the night in the game allowed. He didn't only use the bathroom, nap, eat, and sleep during the nights in real life, he also exercised once every 4 game nights since he knew that it would be far more beneficial to his health. He also meditated when he thought it would be more beneficial then napping.
He had many whispers from YamiUsagi, Kira, YOLOSWAG, DarkMerc saying how they already out leveled him to the point where it was going to be very hard for him to catch up. They all wanted to tell him their adventurers during the last month, but since reading the Index took far too much concentration he opted to not hear them at all. It was getting to the point where he couldn't think about anything other then locations of books, and everything was getting very very hazy. Once he read the last line in the Index he heard a ding sound emitting from the inside of his mind. Spiral wasn't sure what that ding sound was, since he had never heard it before and was still in a daze. After awhile he notices that he had actually finish reading the Index, and that the ding was actually the game telling him that he had acquired the Index skill finally. He let out a weak sounding voice.
“Skills” (Spiral soft tone)
New Skill Aquired:Index
Allows the user to locate any book within the Library. This skill can also guide the user to any location they wish to reach as long as they have permission to enter.
* grants the user a unknown effect due to the skill being Mastered.
Due to the user acquiring this skill through reading the Index and is judged to be able to recite what the Index has written, this skill will start at Mastered.
He was quite baffled as he didn't expect to see the skill starting at mastered, he hoped the skill wouldn't start at beginner since he put so much effort into reading the Index but for it to start at mastered felt weird to him. He then felt a sense of loss, since he had being doing nothing but trying to finish reading the Index for the past month in game. Something to note was that Spiral was actually quite a fast reader, and was able to remember most information he had read in books. For some reason the information in his mind about which books were kept where kept changing in his mind. He had never felt this way before since it felt like the books were part of his body, this was a whole new experience to him. He then finally came to his senses and saw a old man staring at him.
The first thing Spiral thought after looking at him was who is he, and how did I get to the Index this past few weeks? Some reason Spiral couldn't recall how he got from the dormitory to the Index after the first 3 meals with Kite. He started to wonder what happened to Kite, but before he could ask the question the old man begun to talk.
“Hello Spiral I am Magnus the head master of this library, and I have been watching you for the past week since I have returned” (Magnus)
“O Hello, where are my manners I am Spiral a temporary librarian sir” (Spiral)
“Yes I heard from Kite that you are an adventurer that wanted a library card and asked to work here as payment for the card” (Magnus)
“Yes sir, I wanted a library card, but had no coins to purchase one, so I asked to work here as payment” (Spiral)
“I want to ask you something Spiral do you recall anything from the past week?” (Magnus)
“No sir, I can't seem to remember anything but reading the Index and my basic routines” (Spiral)
“I would guess so, since I have been calling you for a week now.” (Magnus sighs)
“I'm sorry sir if I have offended you in anyway” (Spiral nervous)
“No you have not Spiral, I just wondered what the person that was willing to read through the entire Index was like” (Magnus)
“I'm not sure how I am suppose to answer that, I wanted to get a library card and needed the Index skill so I read the Index to get the skill...” (Spiral)
“Yes, but to get the index skill you didn't actually have to read the entire index, more like reading that book past the first few hundred pages should have given you the skill” (Magnus)
“Wait what?! I didn't know that, since Kite said only that I needed to read the Index to learn the skill. I kept reading and reading but never got the skill until I finished the entire book...” (Spiral)
“The moment you actually wanted to stop reading you should have gotten the skill, which was why when you finished the book you finally obtained the skill” (Magnus)
“I see... I didn't know that so did I waste this entire month?” (Spiral)
“Not quite, since I haven't actually seen a person actually read that thing completely without showing any signs of giving up” (Magnus laughs)
“I see... so I guess I should probably start earning my keep for the library card.” (Spiral)
“Well if you were one of those other adventurers that asked to work here after I returned, then that would be the case but in your case it is quite different” (Magnus)
“What should I do then sir?” (Spiral)
“I want to grant you a class that hasn't been granted to anyone, since the founding of this library” (Magnus)
Spiral started to sweet as he didn't expect that reading a giant book on books would actually give him any other class then something to do with being a librarian. He didn't know what this class was, but he knew that if he refused this he probably be unable to set foot in the library ever again. This would have made his entire month of reading the Index a waste of time. It was either get stuck with a class that had nothing to do anything other then books or never be able to read the books he tried so hard to be able to read. He strengthened his will and answered Magnus.
“I will take the class sir, it will be my honor to take a class that has been lost for so long” (Spiral)
“Good, Your class shall now be the researcher. You are granted the highest access possible within the library I hope for your future success. If you have any questions you may find me in my quarters, since as a fellow researcher we are very busy.” (Magnus leaves smiling)
Spiral then thought to himself “alright so what in the world did I just acquire”?
