Clarissa makes her Move

Clarissa makes her Move

Clarissa, the sweet, unassuming, overweight junior ran to stand between the two combatants and threw up her hands.

Clarissa sent A wave fo gravity rippleing through the air. The Football feirld crakced with the sheerpower of the Gravitational wave.

To the left, Jose, the Prom king turned warlord and wind savant, Was throwen backwards high into the air. He was just barely anble to right himself with awell timed blast of wind. As he landed, he snaraled at the introduction of another potetial enemy viying or power.

TO classandra’s rught. The choir star fell to his bakc, a pizza, which had started life as a shuriken, landed, hot cheese side up. He hyleped in pain as the pizza buirnt his face.

“You two need to stop this!” Classanda shouted. Her face was red with embaresment. She usually spent her days quiet inthe back of the classroom, But this? Shouting at he two most popular kids in school? It was unheard of.

“You gurys are acting like animals!”

Cloarissa had no intentions of showing here powers this soon in the game, in fact, she had not intentions of showing themo ff at all! Doing so would paint a targeth on her back. She didn't not want that!

“Who are you supposed to been, tubby?” Said Redeem. He propped himslef up on his elbows, the pizza comically sliding slowly off his face, leaving a trail of toato sause on his dark skin.

She shook her head, “thats not imopratnt, But you guys can't be going around causing trouble.”

Jose narrowedhis eyes. “You are the one causeing trouble, Look at what you did to oue football field!”

“YEAH!” hollered some of the members of the football team, backing up their wide-reciever. “You will pay for this” another member of large stature thretened.

Uh oh. Clarssai thought to herself. Just what exactly had she done? SHe onely ment to stop the fight, not paint a bus sized target on herself.

“Lets get em boys.” Jose said, sending a jetstreem of wind to carry him towards the softspoken Junior.

Clarissa yelped turning to dach away. It didn’t take long for the more phit Foootball players ot catch up to her. Lucky for her she was not as defenceless as she looked. She send another waive of gravety behind her.

She was sucessful in knocking back all the team except one player. The lasting player, who had turned to heavy stone to withstan her attack, morohed backinto a boy shaped person. The time it took for him to morph gave her enought time to slip into the school building and find a CRANNY TO HIDE IN.

Out of breath she cursed to herself. SHe really needed to get back into shape like she used to be in elementrary school. SHe could hear the football teem run passed her cranny. Finally a moment to realx.

With this new turn of Events, she knew what she had to do. The only way to get the highschool back to normal was to figure out where these powers came from. AS far as she could tell, nowhere else had suddenly gotten superpowers. Only the school, and specific people.

So then step one, Figure out what caused thesepowers. Obvisouly this was going to be easier said than done.

Clarissa listened intently as she waited, hoping they would not find her. Footsteps could be heard running in her direction. Clarriasa held her br3ath as the footsteps got closer, until finally they passed. Whew, that was close, to close really Clarria thought to herself. Just to be sure, she waited a few more moments before emerging from the hiding spot. Clarrisa turned left, opposite of where they were heasding off too, and ran smak dab into Gideon.

“Whoa there, little one, where you headin’ off too so quickly?” Gideon’s voice was playful, yet mischievious.Clarrisa gulped, she didn’t expect to be found. She could feel her powers coming to her and right before she unleashed it, she was struck in the back of the head. Darknewss seeped in, until she couldn’t stand up any longer. The last thing she heard was Gideon saying, “We got her, let’s go.”

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

Gideon stood next to Jose, looking down on Clarissa as she came too. “Wh..what’s going on?”

Her voice strained with pain as she rubbed the backof her head. Jose stooped down to see here eye to eye, reaching out his hand and forcing her to look at him directly. You will have to pay”, Jose growled. Clarrissa looked up to Gedieon, eyes asking why? Gideon turned away and called out to someone in the other room.

A short moment later, Hector came aoround the corner. Clarrisa remembered Hector from science class, what was he doing here with these jocks? Gideon commanded him to get on with it. Hector, reluctant but scared, moved over to Clarrisa and just stood there. Staring at her. She looked around, trying to figure out what was happening. My pwoers, she rememberd, and stood up thrusting her hands forward.

Nothing happened.

Jose and Gideon laughed. “Oh no… someone can’t use their abilities. Jose patted Hector on the back causing Hector to grimasce slightly. “Hector ol’ boy has the gift to mute others gifts, don’t ya boy?!” Hecotor stared intently at Clarrisa, refusing to answer Jose. Gideon continued, “So long as he helps us, we’ll protect him from the others.” Clarrisa understood at this point, and felt helpless.

Another football player came into the room quickly, ran up to Jose and whispered something h in his ear. Jose’s eyes went wide. He turned to Gideon and said, “Stay here, I have to go deal with something.” He lslapped hector on the back one more time, “Keep her muted, or else!” Hate flasshed in hector’s eyes, and for a brief moment Clarrisa felt a small amount of her powers forming back.

Gideon stepped forward, past Hector, and stood face to face with Clarrisa. You will be made an example of to all the other classmates, and with that he turned and started to wak out the room. Hector was fed up. Clarrisa had been kind to him before, had helped him when others simply looked away. “Hey Gideon, “ he shoulted out. “What?” Gideon had got out before be3ing hit by Clarrisa’s gravataitional blast. He slammed againts the far wall and slumped to the ground.

Hector looked back to Clarrisa, eyes wide with shock adn fear; he was shaking slighty though she could tell it was partially from anger. “You good?” she asked quirerytly. Hector nodded his head and gave her a small smile.

“I’m sorry, it’s just that they- well I falt like…”

“I’t sokay, I get it.” Clarrisa returned his smile and looked around. They were in a dim room; it was cold with large pipes and electric boxes. Are we still in the school? “Where are we?”

“I;m not sure, they blindfolded me-” Hector said, now looking around as well. There were large metal doors on the far end of the room, one being slightly open. “Smells weird in here. Like sulfer.”

“Maybe we’re in a basement ofr somethin?” Clarrisa glanced back to Gideon and hoped he wouldn’t be waking up anytime soom. “We should try and get out of here uncase Jose gets back before we’re gone.”

“Right-” Hector followed Clarrisa out of the room which led them to a very narrow hallway. A string of lights struggled to stay bright above their heads, blinking sporatically and caseiting strage sthadows on the brick. Rather than having a straight hallway with a helpful set of stairs at the welend, it broke off into other corridors and twists and turns.

“Well this room was the end, so maybe we just go as far as we can and see where it takes us?” Clarrisa suggested. “Do you remember going down stairs atall?”

“Yeah, and so many turns… I know that’s not helpful.”

“We should just worry on putting some ditastance between us and the others.” She set off down the hallway, going as far forward as she coudld, then deciding to take a right at the wvery end. The hallway looked nearly the same as the one before, oly better lit. The thought wasn’t very comforting. They followed that hallways down and followed the same pattern: go as far as they could, then went to the right. Can’t go right, take a left. A cold sweat was starting to acculmulate on Clarrisa’s brow as they hald been walking for nearly ten minutes. This is getting us nowhere.

Hector grabbed her arm, causing Clarrisa to nearly fall back into him. “What?!”

His eyes were large again, sweat on his face as well. His voice low, “do you hear that?”

CLarissa cocked her head towards the sound. It sounded as though someone was squelching through mud.

"Should we go and investigate?" Hector asked, looking like he would rather do anything but.

"I want to say no, but it could be someone else in trouble." Clarrisa said, squaring her shoulders, trying to look braver than she felt.

The two of them moved as quickly as they dared down the hallway, a turn, straight, then another turn. Just when they thought they would never find the source of the squelching, they came to a bright red door.

The teacher's lounge.

The squelching was louder now, frantic sounding. Hector shared a look with Clarissa, her eyes mirrioring the thoughts he was having. Hadn't he seen enough horror movies to know that he should leave this door alone and break for freedom? Clarissa nudged him, hand already on the door.

"On the count of three. One, two, three!"

Together they burst into the room and screamed. The entire room was covered in a thick, gelationous substance. The stuff oozed down the sides of the wall, coating everything in it’s path. As gross as the slimy stuff was, it was not what had caused them to scream, for trapped on the ceiling was Mr. Trumble.

The gooey substance had encased their hated geometry teacher like a cacoon. Mr. Trumble writhed and twisted, trying to escape, but it was of no use. His bulbous eyes were magnified under the goop and he looked absolutely terrified. He silently pleaded for his studnets to help him.

“What on earth happened here?” Clarissa cried, staring up at the ceiling. Sure, she had always dreamed of seeing her teacher get his cumupence but not like this.

“It looks like someone else has their powers.” Hector said grimly. “Whoever it was went after Mr. Trumble with a vengence.”

“What are we going to do? We can’t just leave him hanginf there.” Clarissa gestured around the room, looking for anything that might aid them in rescuing Mr. Trumble.

“I don’t think there is anything we can do.” Hector said, surprised by how sad he felt. Mr. Trumble had made his life a living hell this past year, but seeing him in such a horrific positionwas not something that brought Hector any kind of satisfaction. “I think if we touch the stuff, we’ll be stuck too.”

The two friends looked at one another. Hector could see tears forming in Clarissa’s eyes and the hot sting in his told the same story. Without looking back at their doomed teacher, they quickly backed out of the room and closed the door, trying to ignorie the desparate squelching sounds that had started up again.

“What do we do now?” Clarissa said, tears freely falling now.

Hector grimaced. “We continue on and hope we find our way out of this godforsaken place.”
