Prologue: A Permanent Eclipse

"Move out of my way!"

"AHHHHHH, HELP! ANYONE, GOD...I DON'T DESERVE THI..."

His throat was ripped out before he could finish his sentence, his neck was still in the mouth of the creature. Flames were erupting from both its eyes and the shard sticking out of its chest. Its jaw seemed partially dislocated but it was continuing to chew manually using its hands to move its mouth. It was...revolting. I wanted to turn around and run, but I was slow, unbelievably slow. I had to helplessly watch as it finished swallowing and turned its orange eyes in my direction. It let is jaw hang again as it placed force on the ground it stood on and lunged at me. It teeth slowly enclosed around me.

"Hector!"

My eyes shot open to the same dirt ceiling supported by pillars that I had grown used to. I had fallen asleep with my back against the ground. It seems I had passed out. Then her blonde hair came into my view.

"Anne..."

"Geez. Have you been fighting again? I mean, look at the state of them"

Anne had bright blonde hair which was rare due to the lack of self-care products like shampoo. She was roughly up to my shoulders in height and was beautiful, to say the least with blue eyes to pair with her hair.

I was currently laid on a slightly bigger person. With 2 other people around me, it may seem like an amazing feat but I was only able to achieve this because they came at me one at one.

"Leave him, Anne, you know he is like this whenever someone talks about his parents" A boy with blonde hair also showed up, he too was handsome and reached up to my forehead. I myself am roughly 5ft 11 in height or maybe slightly taller, Its been quite a while since I last measured myself so I'm not sure.

"K-Kai...That doesn't mean we should just let him do this all the time" She replied with a tinge of red on her face

"Don't worry about it, it's not like he would lose, isn't that right Hector"

I grabbed his outreached hand and pulled myself up. It had been 11 years since I had arrived here. I was 6 at the time, so it's fair to say I have lived here for the majority of my life. My parents were slaughtered during the descent so I am currently the only one of my bloodline left. Anne and I were childhood friends, however, her parents had managed to survive. We would often hang out together, well maybe she did it out of pity, but either way, she was a kind-hearted girl and the days were enjoyable. We were close and it may have been a product of puberty but I started to grow feelings towards her energetic personality. We, however, started to grow distant. We met Kai around that time, 1 and a half years ago. Kai was a great guy, enough for me to consider him a good friend of mine. We met in an alleyway. I started a fight against a group of guys who started to insult my parents. One of them slipped past me and went after Anne, luckily Kai intervened. He probably looked like a hero to her and me, the demon. The blood dyed both my knuckles and black hair, red. If Kai hadn't held me back that day, I could have become a murderer. Well anyways, that's when we started to drift apart.

"Hector, you excited for the Armament selection?"

"Of course"

If anything, at the orphan training centre, it was good at drilling the process of armament selection in us. To get our personal armament, we had to be scanned. Based on the scan we would be given an armament. The grade of the armament and its usability would determine where we choose to enlist in order to help out the community. Everyone had to be scanned, it was mandatory at the age of 19.

There are many different ways to help out the community.

The main 3 groups that make use of the armaments are

The Royal Knights: They protect the higher-ups in the government and so, have a relatively easy life as they are the furthest away from the frontlines, of course, it doesn't mean its fully safe life as some anarchists still go after the life of the government.

The Peacekeepers: They maintain law and order underground and also make sure that any corrupted that finds itself inside are swiftly dealt with. People are easily scared so it can be said that they have quite a pressured life but then again, who isn't pressured nowadays.

Finally The Glad...

"Which group you planning to enlist in? Hector"

"The Gladiators"

"You're a mad man but I knew that's what you would say"

"Hey! You Idiots! DO YOU HAVE A DAMN DEATHWISH?"

The Gladiators: They work towards leaving underground, to once again reclaim the view of the night sky and all its stars. They face the most risk as they have to actively face the corrupted, a single mistake could cause their death. They are obviously the group that has the highest death count, hence not many people join. Many have also taken to living underground, The Gladiators, however, haven't.

"Hey, are you listening to me? you two idiots"

DING!

The sound of a bell rang throughout the town signalling 10 pm, there usually was one every hour, helped people keep track of time and not lose themselves to madness, that's the belief anyways.

"Looks like this is my stop," I said, we were stood in front of the facility.

"Alright, see ya later Hector" With that, Kai started to walk away

"Wait, I'm not done lecturing you yet, Ah! Kai, wait, Damn it, fine I'll be sure to beat it into you tomorrow" Anne followed behind him after saying that. I was alone once again, in some ways I suppose I preferred being alone.

"Welcome back young one"

I nodded my head to the sister and walked to the training hall. I picked up the spare hand-wraps and put them on, lessons weren't currently so I just proceeded with hitting the punching bag. I was an hour late so I wouldn't be eating today but I suppose that's fine, it may help me burn off useless fat.

Thud! Thud!

None of the others usually train at this time of night. So it was only my punches that rang out through the hall.

Thud! Thud!

Isolation Is peaceful.
