Chapter 3: Roars of the New Creations

The rubble became harder to jump and run on, bodies piled up, blood making everything slippery. Worst of all were the Mongolian headhunters with their automatic gatling guns.

Quintis was surprised he had lasted this long, everyone around him was being torn to pieces from a barriage of Kevlar piercing bullets. Quintis was getting hopeful of survival with the drop off on the other side only a few meters away. His adrenaline was rushing, and all sense of personality faded away in the moment.

The crackling of the radio squeaked out a quiet, “the bombing has now commenced.”

He jumped, the sharp bricks and metal rebar shredding his Kevlar and scrapping his skin. He groaned in pain, but all sense of personal agony vanished with the ear-piercing explosions. Everything above the drop off was unseeable from Quintis’ angle, but he could see the burst of flames shoot sky high and splatter down. Dirt and shrapnel went flying, even hitting houses in the inner city.

The Romans went quiet, Quintis watched as the other survivors and inner-city reinforcements watched the hole in the wall.

The sky was now grey, its thick smoke hiding even the clouds.

Quintis got up, his entire body croaking in struggling pain. He slowly moved up to the top of the drop off. He took a few deep breathes, and then he looked over the top. Nothing. The smoke was too thick to see through anyway.

Other Roman troops now stood beside Quintis and they suddenly exploded into cries of relief. Many hugging and jumping. Pure excitement raised through the living ranks of troops. Quintis even cracked a smile, despite the previous slaughter of his brethren around him.

A large green glow erupted in the smoke, the Romans freezing, all looking at it with fear. “Sir, what is that?” Asked a confused soldier, but nobody answered, as everyone had the same question. Then dozens more green glows, about five stories high, lining the smoke like lighthouses in the fog.

A loud shrieking roar shattered the air, the ground rumbling, then more, from every direction. At the same time the radio burst out, “The Russians have released unknown colossal size objects into the warfare. Stand your ground until further orders are supplied!”

Quintis started backing up, he knew this was nothing good, then a part of the object showed in the smoke. Metal beams and plating mashed together to form a monstrous humanoid creation. A large weapon moved from the smoke, a bright orange emitting from the top half, as if lava ready to explode.

The entire city turned white, everyone falling over and screaming, their ears breaking and skin burning. When the pain finally subsided Quintis looked up, the city was on fire, yellow gas growing from massive craters the size of entire city blocks. The walls were almost completely gone, the towers melting from the liquid plasma flowing down the blast points.

Quintis turned towards the titanic creation once more, thousands of small glows of green and yellow began to grow in the smoke underneath.

“ALL REMAINING UNITS! This is headquarters! The Russians have released massive robotic super weapons with city destroying plasmic weaponry! They have also reinforced the Mongolian troops with their deadly super soldiers! ALL MEN FALL BACK TO THE TEMPLES!”

Quintis chuckled in some strange moment of sadistic sadness, he knew there was no hope and that they were all dead, the new creations of this world had single handily wiped more than half the city in less than a second. All they needed to do was aim those devastating weapons at the temples and the whole Roman army in this sector would be gone…
