Chapter 13: Melia

There's more than just a pact of obedience between the remaining soul of a resurrected being and a Necromancer.

142th Year from the foundation of the Tett Empire

As she woke up, the blackness of nothingness filled her view. All around her, the void expanded indefinitely, as if there was nothing remaining in the world apart from her.

Then, a blinding light broke the shadows apart, and the figure of a beautiful young woman appeared before Elena.

The lady appeared to be around twenty-something years old, with long brown hair and beautiful and healthy tanned skin. Her eyes were golden in color and, if you looked at them directly you would feel lost in their depth.

"W-who are you?!" asked Elena, shocked by the sudden appearance of the woman, who came into existence seemingly out of nothing.

"My name is Melia. I take it you are Elena..."

She was about to reply, but she was cut short: "Good then, I have a favor to ask of you. Obviously, I will also help you with your current... predicament."

As Melia finished to speak, Elena was suddenly reminded of what happened during the battle against the King. She was probably somewhere between line and death, with a really thin line separating her from dying.

Thus, she had to accept whatever deal the mysterious lady was going to propose her.

"... I'm listening."

"NOOOO!!" screamed Elia at the top of his lungs, after witnessing Elena being ruthlessly skewered by the enormous spider.

His scream was soon followed by the screech of Elena's undead, which turned berserker and started to throw themselves against the massive monster, pushing it away from their dying master.

Elia dashed towards her body, now lying on the cold stone floor. Blood oozed out of her wound and fed the growing puddle of the crimson liquid below her.

Tears filling his eyes, he conjured all the incantations he knew of and all of the skills he possessed, exhausting his mana pool at an astounding pace.

Even though he had spent only a couple of days together with her, Elia developed quite strong feelings for Elena, and even if it wasn't love, he still held her dear. He felt she didn't deserve all of what had happened to her, and wanted to help her at best as he could.

Seconds passed and became minutes, and as time went by, Elia had exhausted all of his mana, and the undead were falling one after the other.

Queen had died early on after the frenzy had started, her body severed in two. Rao was tackling the King, which was at least five times in size as the undead, and most of its bones were already broken. Roa was injured and so he was forced to stay out of the battle and limited to occasionally spray the spider with his skill.

The light coming from Elia's continuous healings started to fade, as he had exhausted his mana pool to the bottom, but he continued to cast, hoping a miracle would come to their aid.

And surprisingly, something happened.

"So, what do you say?" asked Melia, after explaining her propose.

Surely, it was quite inviting. Even too advantageous for Elena, to the point it was suspicious, but she couldn't hesitate. It was her only chance, and she had to take it.

"I accept" was her reply. The goddess simply smiled, and then she disappeared, together with the light and the darkness.

Elena's body started to float and was flooded with golden light. Then, after a couple seconds, the light disappeared, and she landed on her feet.

Elia watched aghast, as Elena opened her eyes. When he met Elena for the first time and she had woken up, he had been intrigued and afraid of her eyes, a pit of darkness emanating a faint aura of decay.

Now, he had the urge to tremble in fear at the sight of them. He was staring at the abyss.

Elena had never felt better. She was filled with energy, and she was almost drunk on her own power. Almost.

She crushed in annoyance the feeling in the back of her head, trying to control her, and her gaze fell on her minions trying to fight back the King. Then, she smirked.

She felt the ring on her finger and called out as many corpses as she could fit around them. Then, she started to chant her spells and resuscitated all of them, either as zombies, and when she could, in skeletons.

Then, she directed them against the King. The wave of undead crashed against the monster face first, without caring for a strategy or teamwork. The spider valiantly fought them, killing and mauling the raging undead, but in the end, it succumbed at their numbers.

Finally, she calmed down, as her opponent was defeated. Her undead were the only thing moving in the cave, apart from her and the still shocked Elia.

The nagging feeling at the back of her head was still there, but it was more suppressed than before, so she let it be and turned her attention to the corpse of the King. Finally, she could create her first Ghoul.

She had been waiting for this from the first time she had received the notification and had planned on how to make use of the bonus her first creatin of a Ghoul would have given her if she used it on the King. Now, it was time.

She said the last chant given to her by the System, before her access was blocked by Melia, and raised the King as a Ghoul. This time, it luckily didn't grow, as it probably wouldn't have fitted in the cave anymore, but it became leaner and sturdier at the same time.

Even without the aid of the System, she could feel the abilities of her new minion, like she could sense the things that were in her Spatial Ring and the bonuses her equipment gave her.

It gained a Rare ability, and could now move much faster than before, squeeze trough holes much smaller than himself and was able to evade obstacles even while running at an incredible velocity.

The perfect mount, she thought while smiling.

A couple hours later, after Elia had regained his senses and Elena had reassured him everything was alright, they were finally out of the cave.

Even after gaining the ability to go trough opening smaller than himself, King was still not able to go trough some of the tunnels in the cave system, so Elena had to deposit him in her ring, together with her other undead. They were simply too many to comfortably walk back to the entrance, so she only had a few of her stronger minions out for support.

Breathing in a whiff of clean and fresh air, Elena was satisfied with herself. Finally, she felt ready to leave the cave and go back civilization- and then, she would take her revenge.

Depositing the remaining undead in her ring, she took out the King, and together with Elia they mounted on top of it. Then, they departed.
