Warlord of the Castle Defence

Disappointing fantasy

The carriage and the horse were registered as his property which is why they were transported with him, so traveling to the farmlands was easy for him. Unfortunately he could not buy horses for the villagers to travel since a normal horse cost 3 gold while a warhorse cost 5, he had to build other buildings and was thin on money .

When he returned to the castle, he spend 50 golds to build barracks which automatically spawned 100 footmen soldiers all wearing leather rugs .

After they gave him what he guessed to be ‘ a warrior’s salute ‘ , he gave them the swords and leather armours he had on his treasury . Seeing his army of 100 men he felt a bit safer but at the same time it boosted his desire for security . Unfortunately though when he searched the market for troops, a cavalry unit made of 50 cost 200 golds, while a single knight cost 50 . With the gold he had left he paid 100 to unlock the kitchen in his castle that spawned 5 cooks and 5 maids, he spent 40 gold on buying 10 cows and 10 goats that cost 2 gold each .

“ These footmen don’t give off any fierce aura, I should just spend the last gold on a knight “

So he spent his last money to spawn a knight which was called Gregorio .

The knight’s salute was different from the normal footman soldiers, knights were basically the lowest form of nobility.

Certain knights of powerful nobles would even have territories and castles, but only if their ability was on a high enough level to match their prestige and importance .

Gregorio was not the chatty type, he was extremely tall and even though his body was covered in full plate armour, Randy could feel the oppressive power of his muscles.

“ I greet the esteemed master Frederick “

Frederick? Will I assume this identity now?

The name Frederick was weird to him since he would rather be treated informally like an average Joe.

But he had enough knowledge to realise that if he did not adapt to this world’s rules and noble etiquette he would be looked down upon.

So Frederick I am then!

“ You can rise, The current situation is not favourable to us but hopefully your arrival will improve things. How many of the footmen can you take down by yourself? “

“ It would be troublesome if they had archers or a unit of cavalry, but if its just footmen I can take them all down in less than an hour “

So a knight has such strength huh?

Frederick started to think that the money were well spent on him.

“ You will temporarily be their leader until you train one of them to a point where he could lead on your stead “

“ Do you not find me suitable to lead them permanently lord? “

“ Oh you’re more than suitable, I will just need you to take care of more important matters, cant have my best man being just a unit leader “

After he told him to give training to the soldiers he headed for the castle to check out what was happening in his new kitchen. What he saw was kind of disappointing since he was looking forward to playing with his pretty maids.

But things never work like in books, all of his maids and kitchen staff were a bunch of 50 year old women, his dreams were shattered .

“ The current food will last us for 7 days if we maintain the same distribution “

His ‘head maid’ called Belinda was responding to his food inquiry.

Before he even had the time to cry about the lack of beautiful women, he had to do something about the food crisis .

The farms until he reached level 5 would produce 100 rations of food every 7 days, but once he went past the level 5 the farms would produce seasonally , he knew as much from the game .

So even though things would be steady for a while he was going to have to do things and prepare for the future .

From what he knew of the captain’s memories, there were no domesticated animals around this place .

The tribes did some basic farming but they mostly relied on hunting for food, and the animals were not like animals on earth. The wild boars and wolves around here had strong physical attributes and some could even use magicka .

“ I wish I had a map “

The game would give him a map once he reached level 10, so for now he was going to need to personally scout the territory and hunt for food .

So even though his current lifestyle was safe and stable, the living conditions sucked and the castle’s imperial chambers would only be unlocked past level 5 so till that time came he is gonna have to sleep in the treasury room .

With not much to do and with the side effect headache, he decided to practice some meditation before going to sleep.

Meditation was what he had learned in the academy, it was basically how a mage trained . You felt the magicka in the atmosphere and tried attracting it until you were close enough to absorb it.

And even though it sounded easy, it was extremely hard to do . But the feeling was sort of addicting.

It was like his inner self had eyes that could look far into the sky, and once he found the magicka he tried reaching for it but made no progress.

The blue bulbs which he assumed were magicka, didn’t even flicker.

In the first hour he tried and he blamed his failure on the lack of concentration, but the next couple of hours taught him a huge lesson . Mage training sucked !

Mages were extremely proud people and the mage society was mostly made of nobles, non noblemen had no finances needed to support their pursuit of magic.

It was true that an average mage could not beat someone on Gregorio’s level, but grand wizards like the one on the royal court, the famous Agastius Flamebell, could beat 1000 Gregorios effortlessly.

“ I think I have got this whole thing wrong, instead of pursuing magicka, why dont I make the little blue bastards come to me “

Feeling super proud of his idea, he circulated the magicka in his body and visualised his body to be a magnet .

“ This is it, this is the moment where I grow into an all powerful mage “

He thought that since magnets did not exist in this world, his visualisation would make a huge breakthrough in magical world, but was soon super disappointed to find out that he only attracted a single bulb of magicka .

“ I should just stop making a fool of myself” , he had not fully believed what happened to him. Every second he expected some doctor to wake him up from his slumber with a bunch of people filming him trying to perform magic and turning him into a meme .

His brain system did not block the feelings that fooled him into thinking this realm was just a dream .

“ No way to know yet so I’ll just roll with it“ After absorbing the blue bulb and feeling his magicka increase by one, he went to sleep disappointed of not being a super op novel main character.

He had no idea how hard it was for even a senior mage who could destroy armies and mountains to absorb a magicka per day, the advanced mages would absorb one every three days at most......
