Chapter 27 - Mounting Pressure

DARNASSUS

Tyrande Whisperwind, High Priestess of Elune and leader of the Night Elves, sat in her private chambers within the great tree of Teldrassil, deep in thought.

Unfortunately, there was a lot to think about.

The failure to secure the Scythe of Elune was most prominent in her mind. When the Elune's Blessing had anchored at the docks of Teldrassil, she had personally gone down to meet Captain Galind. But when she had greeted him, the captain's drawn and haggard expression had forewarned her of the bad news. And what bad news it was...

The courier slain, deep within wild, enemy territory. Worgen, a revenant knight, and no sign of the Scythe of Elune.

She had ordered a new elite task force created to go back with the Captain Galind after the tale. But it was taking time for all the members to gather. So the Elune's Blessing sat anchored uselessly at dock, while who knows who or what was doing what with the artifact.

Then there was the ambitious Northrend invasion plans proposed by the Stormwind diplomats. Tyrande was hesitant about the whole idea. The goal was good, but the she didn't want to over-extend her Sentinels even more than they already were. They were already embroiled all over Kalimdor to protect their culture and sacred forests.

In Ashenvale and Stonetalon with the Horde, keeping tabs on the goblin cartels, and observing the scattered Satyr clans.

Satyr clans which were seemingly reuniting from what the High Priestess could determine. Which hadn't happened since her mate Malfurion had struck down Xavius, all those millenia ago during the War of the Satyr. As such, there was no love lost between the satyr and her people. She didn't know what was driving the satyr to action, but she had to respond accordingly.

Then there was the fact that the once friendly furbolg were becoming far more aggressive and less likely to communicate amicably anymore. The Timbermaw were especially concerning, considering they hadn't open up Timbermaw Hold for the many seasons now. Her Sentinels were also posted to keep an eye on that front as well.

So Tyrande had little desire to participate in the campaign against the Scourge in Northrend, with another potential war already brewing on her doorstep. But there were appearances to keep up, and if the Alliance couldn't count on her, she wouldn't be able to count on them. So she was debating on just how small a token force she could lend to the proposal without negative political repercussions.

But not only were the Sentinels busy, so were the druids led by Malfurion. There was a growing corruption unlike anything they'd ever seen before taking root in the Emerald Dream. Not of a demonic nature, but more of an all-consuming ever-voracious energy they were referring to as the Nightmare. And despite all the combined efforts of the druids along with the Green Dragonflight, they were admittedly losing ground.

It was truly concerning to Tyrande, the amount of issues coming to a head all at once...

STORMWIND

Jaina Proudmoore sat across the table from Bolvar Fordragon, High Regent of Stormwind, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. She had just returned from Kul Tiras, where she had convinced her family to pledge their support to the Alliance and build a fleet to aid in the war effort.

Bolvar sat back in his chair, his eyes fixed on Jaina. "Well done, Lady Proudmoore," he said. "Your efforts have greatly bolstered our naval capabilities."

Jaina nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Thank you, High Regent. I'm glad I could be of service. And what of the our allies? Do they approve of the plan?"

"King Bronzebeard and TInker Mekkatorgue support taking the war to the Scourge, and we expect much the same from Priestess Tyrande. And it seems the Horde sees the Scourge as a threat to be eliminated as well, as their Warchief has agreed to a joint invasion. With Queen Sylvannas as your counterpart for this endeavor."

Bolvar started drumming his fingers, "But there is much to discuss besides that, now that you have returned!"
