Entry 5- A lunch break

Looking around for the source of the voice, Rita sees a little boy in a puffer jacket with his own menu sitting next to her bag across from her, "I'm sorry, what?" The boy looks up at her from the menu, "The burger of earthly delights, most visitors don't pay attention to the message next to it saying you have to ask for normal mushrooms since it's a regulars' meal. Since the mystic people started comin' out more, people are trying to make drugs that make'em see things more popular an' legal. The diner's got more people comin' since the owner added hippie food."

Putting his menu down he looked around at the others in the diner like he was trying to figure something out. "At least, that's what grandma says," he added as he turned back to looking at her with a shrug. Slightly confused by the information she looked at the menu again and saw he was right. "Burger of Earthly delights, our chef's special blend of psychedelic mushrooms adds a whimsical twist to the classic burger. These enchanting fungi bring an earthy richness and a touch of magic that will leave your senses tingling with the flow of the universe! If you want it without Psilocybin added make sure to inform the server. The standard has been changed to "with" than without as it has been requested to be added so often we've changed policy for it to be naturally included.

Surprised, she focused better on the menu to see this was the case for a number of options. Deciding the simplest option was probably the best right now, she choose a chicken salad which had no mention of alterations and waved for the waitress who saw her from across the room and nodded.

Waiting for the waitress to return she smiled and focused on the boy, "Your grandma wouldn't happen to be named Mary by chance?" With a nod the boy added, "her and a few other old ladies here, my Sunday school teacher's name's Mary too. There's a girl in my class who's dad owns the garage down the road, but she's gotten in trouble a lot 'cause she plays paranormal investigator and keeps sneaking in people's houses." Blinking in mute surprise for a moment she thinks better on asking what the girl is investigating and asks, "Any of them with the surname Weatherly by chance?"

The kid scrunches his nose as he tilts his head to the side and after a few quiet moments replies with a shake of his head. "Don't think so, but accordin' to grandma, a few folks live in cabins up the mountain and only come down if they need somethin' they can't get up there. Why're you looking for her, is she your grandma?" He asked, looking up from the menu. Leaning towards the boy with a conspiratorially look as she made a show of making sure nobody was too close to hear as she held a hand to whisper, causing a look of excitement to show on the boy's untrained face as he turned the menu to listen better and leaned in as well.

"Believe it or not, " she began, "WE think she might be a psychic in contact with the outer realms, and I was given the important task of making sure she's using her powers for good. I'm about to go up the mountain to see if I can track her down, but I gotta rest here a bit before I begin my search, but DON'T TELL ANYONE, okay?"

With that she leaned back with a wink and pretended nothing happened as the waitress arrived at the table to the surprise of the boy as he looked at her with wide eyes and then realizing the waitress was there quickly placed the menu before him again as he exaggerated his search before looking up at her in sudden mock surprise. "Oh, Mrs.Conlie, I didn't see you there, I think today I'd like to try my usual again today.

Alright hon, chicken tenders and fries fer you it is." She said with a smile as she wrote the order on a notepad with a smile before she looked apologetically at Rita, "Sorry 'bout the youngin', Chelsey couldn't get a sitter." WIth a returning smile she shook her head, "it's alright, he's not the worst company I have at the table, he makes better conversation than my backpack. I'll just have a chicken salad for myself and a glass of water." With a big nod she confirmed the order and walked towards the kitchen and said it'd be 20 minutes.

While they waited for the food the boy asked many questions, "Who's WE, is the lady you're lookin' for REALLY a psychic, how many your friends are espers?!" The innocence of youth perked up RIta's spirits for the coming days as the food arrived and they began eating only after confirming with the waitress she wasn't going to get high from the salad. Taking her time to eat the 1st meal of the day as the boy across from her ate what seemed to be a larger portion than the standard, probably given a few extra as the child of an employee she assumed. She savored every bite as she enjoyed the strums of music coming from the radio.
