Abominations and Trolls are failed amalgamations of the All Mother. She experimented and bred the Ogres of legend with humanity. Thus the monstrous creations came into existence. They have the power of the the Ogres and the destructive nature of humanity. While the All Mother discontinued the project, she should’ve destroyed them. Very few are capable of such a feat now. Thankfully they can not breed without the All Mother.

Ellison approached the crystal to start the battle. As she channeled void energy into the crystal to trigger the summon, it occurred to Gideon that his group had never sat down to discuss strategy. Unlike the other team, his team didn’t know the capabilities of the rest of the group. He had made another huge mistake , one that was bound to cause him some embarrassment. He psyched himself up before the creatures arrived. "It shouldn’t be an issue to take out some goblins. Even if there are a lot of them, we can handle it," he said.
Gideon activated his void shield ability, immovable object. A slight aura enveloped him. He activated his armor. The power flowed over him in its familiar way. His power must have read his subconscious, the summoned armor had taken on the colors of the Delvers Guild. His shield was now a blue and white checkered pattern. The armor had upgraded more than it’s color. He now wore a tabard. The torch of the Delvers was centered inside of an archway.
He looked down and admired himself. "I think I look pretty impressive now. he mumbled." He noticed that Gage eyed him with a smirk on her face, she appeared to agree. Gideon took a fighting stance and prepared for whatever was coming. The sword the headmaster had given him appeared in his hand, summoned from his spacial rings void space. He thought it best to get some practice with it before duels. Riley took the position to his left, Peace and Judgment drawn. Gideon was surprised when he saw Lucy sitting in the boys bag on his back. She stuck her head out and was looking around. Primrose was to Gideon’s right, the giant spellbook out. The book floated in the air, the pages flipped back and forth on their own as if someone were looking for something in the book. Gideon swore he heard a man’s voice from Primrose’s direction, but there wasn’t anyone else there.

They waited for the summons. The runes from the summoning circle lit up, it was trying to pull an opponent to them. The light pulsated from the crystals, then dimmed significantly. The summons was resisting and the ritual seemed as though it might fail. “Something is wrong, the summons shouldn’t be able to resist.” Ellison said. With a bright flash the ritual succeeded and their first test had arrived. Gideon expected goblins or something similar, instead a great shadow spread over the battlefield. The creature was at least thirteen feet tall. The club it carried was twice Gideon’s height. He looked at the creature with his UI.
{{Troll, it displayed.}}
Gideon freaked out as he read the single word. “It’s a bloody troll!" Damn! Riley must be rubbing off on me, he thought. He couldn’t back down, this was his fight. He had a job to do. Gideon rushed the troll.
Silas jumped up immediately and waved his hands, running from the seats. “Gideon NO! You need to back off, this is wrong. This isn’t a fight that we can win.” Silas continued to scream as Gideon engaged the creature. The troll was much faster than Gideon thought it would be. Whoa, I’m not going to be able to dodge its attacks. It’s size makes it look like it’s moving slow, but it’s not. An attack came his way and he braced for it. He blocked the great club with his shield. The shield exploded in a burst of lost void energy. The power of the strike had shattered his void shield ability for the second time, the aura faded away. He looked to his arm and the destroyed armor. I think that block saved my life, but it broke my arm. I can’t move it, it’s completely dead. At the last moment he dodged the back swing, the troll had attacked off balance.

Gideon saw movement above. Riley was suddenly on the creatures back with the artifacts that he called Void Blasters. Gideon had learned they were magitek artifacts of Riley’s own design. He wanted to call them Gunns, named after himself, but everyone told him the name wouldn’t stick. So Void Blasters they became, with the Gunn creator logo on the side. Riley stood on the creatures shoulders and began firing concentrated void energy into the trolls face. Peace and Judgment, the name given to the two Void Blasters, were tearing flesh from the trolls face. The troll swatted at Riley with it’s club and missed. Gideon used the opening to charge and strike with his sword. It bit deep, but the wound seemed to heal instantly. After his blade bit into the troll’s flesh, the troll was drawn to the pain and it’s origin. The powerful back swing surprised Gideon and caught him square in the chest.
For the second time, Gideon felt his armor ability completely shatter, he was now defenseless. He was knocked across the room and into one of the arena’s retaining walls. Primrose was there in moments. He felt her heal wash over him as he struggled to maintain consciousness, his chest was so tight he couldn’t breathe. He stared at her, focusing on the worry and panic on her face. He wanted to say it was going to be okay, but he was unable to speak, he continued to gasp for air as the world faded.
Primrose began casting another spell, then she was abruptly pushed from his view, an angel took her place before him. She was the center of his world. “Gideon, I’ve got you. Stay with me, don’t die. Dammit Prim, go help the others now!” A heal washed over him, the power of it noticeably stronger. His lungs opened and oxygen came flooding in. He took a deep breath as he opened his watering eyes. Gage stood over him, the glow of power was all around her. She was his angel.
“Thank you.” He said as he rose to his feet. “I knew you would come Gage. I never doubted you.” He tried to survey the battlefield, looking for the troll, but his vision was still blurry.
Gage smiled, “I will always come when you need me. Always,” she whispered.
Screams came from all around them, “Look out!” another voiced yelled, he couldn’t make out the direction, or even who had shouted the warning. His head was still foggy, he couldn’t focus, couldn’t see. Then he saw it, a movement in his peripheral vision. He turned back to Gage as her second heal washed over him, taking the last of his pain with it. She looked angelic in the afterglow, the color made her blue eyes sparkle. Her brown hair was sweaty and matted, exactly like the first time he had seen her. She’d never looked better. Then suddenly she was gone. The troll’s club swiped her from his view in a mighty swing. She flipped and rolled and came to a sudden stop. She lay crumpled and unmoving, blood pooling beneath her. Gideons vision went red.
The Void Blade was suddenly in his hand, it glowed an angry red. His eyes mirrored the blade, the red power leaked from them; overflowing. He charged at the troll, his shattered armor refusing to reform. He ran up the trolls leg and leaped for its head. As he ran he screamed an old incantation from warriors long ago, one the captain had shown him in old texts. “I call to the Old Ones, because I am nothing. I give myself to you, lend me your power.”
Gideon needed one of the Old Ones to answer his call, he didn’t have a preference which. He only needed them for this last minute of his life, then he could rest with Gage. The Old Ones heard his call, even those in the deepest part of the cosmos. The call was strong, buried so deep into the heart and soul of human emotions it tore into even Azathoth’s eternal slumber. The Omnipotent god stirred for the briefest of moments, a bare millisecond of time. Reality changed, the ripple spread across the cosmos.

Gideon brought the Void Blade down, it sliced through the trolls skin smoothly. He knew the troll would not heal the damage this time. He landed at the feet of the gigantic creature. He knew his call had been answered when he felt the borrowed power of a god enter him, the power of an Old One. He looked upon the troll that screamed in anguish before him. He couldn’t bring himself to find sympathy for the creature. He wanted it to feel his pain, his sorrow.
He called upon the ability the gods had bestowed upon him. The flat tone of his voice rang out with pure malice across the battlefield. “Suffer the power of the Eldritch.” The sky cracked, the clouds parted, and the very gods seemed to strike down at the troll in anger. The flash of power struck down from the heavens, a blinding explosion erupted from where the troll had stood. The force of the blast knocked the other Delvers off their feet. The body of the troll burned and smoked in the middle of the arena. Gideon stood over the troll. Smoke rose from his skin and the purple glow of the borrowed cosmic power surrounded him. The retaining walls in the general area of the arena had all been leveled. Mentor teams and their trainees scrambled to kill the goblins that fled in every direction as they attempted to escape their prison.

Gideon saw none of the level up notices. He had only one thing on his mind, he thought of her. He had found her body laying in the debris. He fell to his knees and crouched in the pool of blood next to her small body. “Gage, please no!” he cried.
