Chapter 1: Tuesday?

Chapter 1: Tuesday?

Tuesday? Why of all the days would it happen on Tuesday? Tuesday is the day of the week that no one really thinks much about, barring the odd taco Tuesday which is the only recognition the day gets. No more however for Tuesday will go down in history as the day it happened. What might you ask happened on the day no one particularly cares for? Well to start, it was the day the world turned upside down, inside out, and was reborn.

Cassius Heart wasn't doing anything special on this fateful day, no I was in the single bedroom of my apartment, playing the third edition of the notorious strategy game with a certain war-like hammer in the title. I was playing on normal difficulty because I was trying to relax damnit, not micromanage until I dropped dead of stress, that was for the weekends. It was a forgettable day until it started, I had gone to work like usual, then came home and had some dinner, then hopped on my beloved pc to play some games. I was in the middle of a battle between my tricked-out demon lord and a certain Mr. Franz of a certain empire. I saw it then, the words. Now, being a gamer playing a game I was a little surprised but not overly, I assumed the game had crashed or something.

"Hmm. That's odd... wait... huh?"

Looking across to a second of my three monitors, the words... followed? Why would they move to my other monitor when I didn't even touch anything? Finding the words on my third monitor aswell, and not wanting to touch anything in case this was a virus or firmware or something, I went for my phone to look up what was going on. When I found the same words on my phone, I decided enough was enough, and got up to go next door and ask Andy if he was seeing these words too. That's when I realized it, the words were on the walls, the floor, and the door. Everywhere I looked the words followed, I froze... being an avid reader of litrpg I caught on quick enough. NO WAY! I internally screamed, there was no way this is happening. But it is... it's happening to me... to us... to Earth. holy crap. I should be terrified, I should be too scared to move, to think. I'm not though, I'm... excited, there was no other word for it, I couldn't even count how many times I'd offhandedly wished for something like this to happen. How many times had I laid in bed trying to wield mana or something, wishing I would unlock some secret and be whisked into a world of magic. Well, here it was, here was my wish, my world of magic and I'm damn excited about it.

I held my breath... and held it some more. It felt like centuries were passing at the speed of a snail, but it was only a second. And then it happened. The world, reality itself bent, and then it broke, and then it shattered. There was naught but darkness, and for a second that might have been infinity, he shattered with it. Cassius Heart was not meant to be conscious for that second that was eternity, and what he saw should not have been seen, it cannot be seen, but it was. Cassius saw the nothingness between what is and what is not, he saw eternity, entropy, and absolute darkness, he saw... the Void, and it saw him.

WELCOME ALL TO THE PRIME MATERIAL!

"OW OW OW OW.... ughhhh"

I awoke on the floor of my apartment. Did I fall? Do I need to call 911? I feel like the hulk hit me with a truck. Maybe I have a concussion? Is this what one feels like? It took a few seconds before I opened my eyes, and when I did, I saw them, the words, and I remembered. With this in mind I finally felt it, something was flowing through me, it felt weird like I could feel my blood pumping through my body. I knew what it was though, I understood, and I smiled through my massive migraine. This... this is what I've always wanted. Pain forgotten at the thought of having something I only ever imagined and dreamed of, I immediately threw my mind to the task of wielding it.

"HURTS OW"

Forcing my mind to do anything right now was extremely painful with the whole "head feeling like hulk mash" thing. However, this had been my dream since the first time I had seen and read fairytales with magic, and I was not going to let pain stop me from realizing my heart's desire. Pushing through the pain with all I had, I willed the energy within my body to move, and it did. With this energy moving to my will, I focused and directed it to my hand, it took a few seconds which felt like a few hours with this headache, but finally I pushed as much as I could into my hand. As the last of my willpower drained away, I forced the gathered energy out of my palm, and immediately blacked out.

"owww why do I keep waking up to pain."

"Atleast its better this time."

Congratulations

"Holy crap that's awesome. So, I guess titles are a thing and that seems like an amazing one at that. It seems like [Primus] is a pretty rare title, I wonder if there are a lot like some of the books and games I've read and played. I guess I'll have to find out later."

Finally looking around I decided I should probably get up off the floor. Doing so I felt dizzy and was reminded my head still hurt. Suddenly a gust of wind hit me from the side. Did I leave a window open that's cold as man. I turned and saw a hole in the wall the size of a basketball.

"Woah when did that happen? ...wait no way, was that me? Did I do that when I forced the energy in my body out of my palm?"

I went over to the hole and looked out; I was on the 5th floor of my apartment building. Hmm it's still night which means I wasn't out very long, or I've been out more than a day, probably just a few minutes though. Looking closer I realized that some lights were on like the streetlights on the opposite side of the block, but the lights on this side of the street weren't functional. Now that I thought about it, I hadn't had any lights on in my room, but my computer was on and now there was no power to it. I went and checked my phone, no signal. Okay so parts of the city have power and parts don't, also no cell service. This could mean a few things, but I'll have to find out more later.

Deciding I should check on Andy and maybe some others in the building I turned to leave when I heard it. Gun shots. Shit... it's starting huh. I need to get going. I almost made it to the door when I slapped myself in the face. How stupid am I? I've been thinking and reading about this for how long and I forget to ask for my status?? STATUS!

"Right, that was awesome, I've always wanted to do that! There's the effectiveness boost aswell! I'm not sure what exactly that does yet but it should be good."

"So, 10 looks to be the average nothing weird there. Pretty good all around, glad to see there are classes and skills, let's see if I can get more information on the stats."

Strength... nothing ok Vitality, Endurance? Ok fine a learn as you go thing then. Moving again to go see Andy, I finally made it out of my apartment and knocked on Andy's door.

"Who is it?! I don't have anything you want I'm not very rich! So, you can just move on!" Andy yelled.

"Andy dude it's me, Cass! Relax I'm just here to see how you're doing."

"...Hey man let me in let's figure this out alright?"

Andy finally opened the door and I could tell he wasn't doing well; Andy's usually relaxed and laid-back persona was in complete disarray. Andy was a fairly normal guy, skinny for his height which was 5'11 with black hair and sharp features. He looked pale now and was sweating, this was even worse than when he was under pressure in a high stakes pc game by magnitudes, which he already doesn't handle well. I knew that I needed to get going to try and gather enough food stuffs before the looting really got started.

"Andy, we need to go man, we need to get enough food for ourselves, so we don't starve when everything really hits the fan."

Andy looked terrified of the idea of leaving his apartment.

"You need to make a decision now Andy, either come with me or stay here. I'm trying to help you, but you need to come with me now or I will have to leave you."

I wasn't a bad guy, but I'm no hero either. I have a family, a mom, a sister, and a brother. I have no time for this and need to get myself set up so I can find my family and make sure they are safe. I gave Andy a hard look and could tell when he broke and decided he had a better shot with me than sitting here slowly starving.

"Alright Cass I'll go with you." Andy said.

"Good let's get going then, I can already hear looters shooting and taking what they want."

Andy looked pretty scared at the idea, but he followed regardless. I led us down the stairs and to the front door.

"Alright let me make sure there's no one out there before we go barging out onto the street" I whispered to Andy.

I slowly looked through the front glass doors, I would have used the back door, but the convenience store I wanted to get supplies at was out the front and down a few blocks. It would have taken more time than I wanted to go around the other side. I couldn't see anyone out front, so I took the chance and led Andy outside sticking to the dark side of the street trying not to stand out. The only thing that could be heard were the gunshots in the distance. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more people out even if they were just trying to get supplies like me. It's disappointing that so many people are hiding in their homes hoping for someone to save them. Andy and I made our way down the streets looking in dark windows and entirely lit storefronts. That's when I saw them turn the corner, a group of guys coming down the street right out in the open, there were about 15 of them, they looked like bikers with leathers, but there were a few normal looking guys in the back that looked haggard and run down. I pulled Andy down the closest alley and hid behind a dumpster.

"Stay quiet" I whispered to Andy.

Andy nodded silently. Good. He didn't respond by talking, there's hope for him yet. I waited and watched until the group of bikers broke into a store on the other side of the street by breaking the window and walking through it. Why are they going through the window I'm pretty sure the door is open. Sigh. Arrogant seems like an understatement. After the entire group went inside the electronics store without even stationing a guard outside, I knew we had an opportunity. I grabbed Andy and guided him down the road keeping down and quiet. Making it past the next block without seeing anything and only hearing the goons in the store I figured we were safe. I came to a stop in view of the store I wanted and looked around to make sure no one saw us and that no one was nearby. Fortunately, the store was without power, I didn't let that stop me from being cautious though.

"Alright Andy we're heading into that store right there. When we get inside, I want you to sit by the window and make sure no one else is going to stop by. If you do hear anything don't make any noise, just come find me alright?" Cass whispered.

Andy nodded again. Moving to the store I pulled on the door and luckily it opened without a sound. Getting Andy situated I went behind the cashier counter and took a handful of plastic bags with me to the shelves. I collected just about every canned food I could find; along the way I picked up as many gallons of deionized and distilled water as I thought I could reasonably carry. After filling bags until I thought Andy and I would be at carrying capacity, I went to the back and pulled down some backpacks off the rack and stuffed them with food and water aswell, I tried to arrange the goods so they made as little noise as possible. Dragging the supplies up to Andy in trips I finally relaxed a little knowing we had what we needed and could move on.
