The sun shined, and the birds were chirping, all on this beautiful sunny day. Cars, trucks, and other vehicles occasionally drove past Roseberry High School, a public school in the borough of Queens.
Sophomore Trevor Ayredale sat in his incredibly hard and unengaging Spanish class, daydreaming as his teacher spoke English with hints of Spanish in front of the class. He wasn't paying attention, as he was drawing doodles in his notebooks. His mind was on the virtual reality headset, Portal, which he owned at home with a bunch of games.
Much to his pleasure, the bell rang, ending school for the day. However, Trevor is going to the Gaming Club, which is coordinated by Mr. Bill, who he and his friends are very close with.
He got up from his seat and put his backpack on. "Let's go."
He walked through the crowded high school hallway. There were no lockers like you would see in the films. People wore durags and sagged their pants. There was also some loud rap music blasting in the hallway until a dean commanded it be turned off.
Trevor finally reached A233, the room where the club took place. He peeked through the small window and saw his friends, then went inside and closed the door.
"Hey, guys," he announced.
"Hey, Trevor," his friends Chris and Devante said in unison.
"Hey, man!" Mr. Bill said optimistically. "How's it goin'?"
"Good, good," he said, setting his backpack on his desk. "So what are we doing today?"
Chris looked inside his backpack. "We're playing Mortal Kombat today. I brought my copy. I just know I put it here somewhere."
Trevor and Devante watched as their friend had his head stuck in his awfully messy backpack, looking for the copy.
He beamed as he pulled it out. "Found it!"

"Alright, pop that bad boy in!" Mr. Bill said.
The disc went inside the Xbox, and in no time, the game started. Mr. Bill and another student were going first. They both picked their characters and started playing.
Trevor was pretty indifferent when it came to console games. Not that he doesn't play console games at all; as a matter of fact, he has his own Xbox at home. But lately, he has been more into virtual reality games, as he believed it was the future of video games.
Devante turned to Chris and said, "Hey, you gonna be on Fight of the Knights later?"
Chris nodded. "Damn right, man! This game rocks!"
"Hey, guys?" Trevor asked. "What game are you talking about?"
"It's called Fight of the Knights," Devante replied. "It's basically knights in medieval Europe, with some fantasy powers! It's really cool!"
"Oh," Trevor googled the game on his phone, and read the results. Fight of the Knights was made by the same company that made the Portal headset, FunDrive Ltd., and was exclusively for the headset. There were also images of knights riding horses, but what really caught his eye was an armored knight swinging a flaming sword.
"You guys," said Trevor. "I need to get this."
"Shit!" Mr. Bill yelled. He lost the match to the student next to him.
"I told you," the student said. "I'm omnipotent at this game."
Mr. Bill raised the controller. "Hey, Trevor! It's your turn, bud. You play against Marvin here."
Hours passed, and the sky was already pitch black outside. The Gaming Club had ended, so all of the students said goodbye to Mr. Bill as they walked out of the door. Trevor, Devante, and Chris soon followed, doing the same as well.
"So, Trevor?" Devante said. "When do you plan on getting it?"
"Hmm..." said Trevor. "I don't know yet. But I do know it will be ASAP."
They walked out of the school building and said their goodbyes to one another. Chris and Devante walked towards the bus stop at the end of the sidewalk, while Trevor walked towards his mom's red car and got in.
"Hey, son," his mom said as her son closed the door. "How was the club?"
"Awesome, as always!" Trevor said.
"That's great!" she replied. "Today's been great for me too, because I got your report card!"
"Did you?" said Trevor nervously.
"Yes," his mom said, pulling out his report card. "And you got straight As with a 95 average!"
Trevor smiled. "I know, mom. I check PupilPath everyday."
His mom high-fived him. "Awesome work, kiddo! I got something in the back to reward you!"
Trevor looked at the back and saw a black plastic bag on the seat. He grabbed and pulled out what was inside. He was flabbergasted. It was a copy of Fight of the Knights itself. The cover a bunch of knights in different colored armor, riding on their horses.
"Oh my god!" he said. "Thanks so much, mom! You're the best!"
"No problem," she said. "You deserve it."
