Virtual reality: Sorp
Chapter thirty: Moths to flame.

Chapter thirty: Moths to flame.

What is surprising about crafting professions. Is the technological levels. Take Sorp’s weapon crafting.

Using pseudo oree he melts with what can be considered high technology. This a multipurpose B.F.M. device.

In his hands the ore are contained in a cauldron like container. Upon reaching liquid state the cauldron changes into a mold. This mold is whatever Sorp wills it to be, within reason.

Its restrictions is only in respect to its size and how thin it can become. Meaning he can still make a rather sizeable two meter radius circle.

What use such a large circle is when weapons is considered is dubious at beast. But it is possible and that is about as large as it become.

Upon setting the mold, the metal can be cooled if required. At this point, Sorp can now bring out other B.F.M. devices such as an anvil, a hammer or other metal craft related tools.

Beating metal is understood as blacksmith’s method to work the metal. And in this virtual environment, it is meant as a way to process the metals.

There is some cracks in the logic, but Sorp can decide what material he wants to remove in the metal and try to hammer out.

This is where practice comes into play in a game sense. The proficiency depends on level of ‘skill’ acquired in game not not an actual skill.

In traditional gaming terms, this would be blacksmithing experience for example. Leveled up by repeated actions on worthwhile material.

It is hard to actually find actual skill within the crafting profession as majority is so heavily assisted and bordering on nonsensical.

A lot of it is reduced to a person B.F.M. control. Different from endurance or quick actions, this is instead finesse.

Smooth, delicate actions. Not a slashing of a sword. A blast of a spell or what else straightforward combat asks for.

This is what practice is supposed to provide. This is also a skill instrumental to many harder to wield B.F.M.’s later on.

Aside from this. Crafting is repetitive process. More experience is rewarded for attempting new things but the if one focuses on creating swords, naturally that individual becomes more skilled at it.

This being a game, with immense focus on betterment through exercise and crafting, crafting becomes the most gaming like construct within Perpetuity.

It has experience levels and the system provides considerable assistance in its use. This in in contrast with no experience based levels.

It is not unthinkable that people can be classified in tiers or levels. Meaning their cumulative achievements, physical attributes and B.F.M. capabilities allow people to be ranked.

Whether such a thing is realized is difficult to say. Unlike traditional gaming gauges, like health bars, Perpetual Power has not actually addressed the issue.

As Perpetual power did not add attributes into the game. No one gains power by adding ten to a strength attribute for example. As such, they have no need for levels.

What they can do and do do, is give the chance to strengthen their real bodies. This will increase personal power within Perpetuity.

This not only done through increase regenerative properties, thereby allowing them to train harder, but also give boost that act in a similar way as a steroid would.

This is like an experience boost in a traditional game. In its essence a buff that allows them to become stronger in a shorter time.

Sorp, the guys or Daisy have not encountered such a thing. But that does not mean no one has. Just as Sorp, Daisy and the guys are progressing, so are millions of others.

There are already newcomers here the Second wave reinforcement camp. As most people playing are rich, they do not hesitate paying the fee that Daisy did.

Moreover, with people recording their journey, it is easier for others to follow their lead and catch up. At least catch up to them some sense.

Stolen story; please report.

There are people as motivate as Daisy and perhaps not as physically adept as Sorp, but not lacking. These people can overtake Sorp’s group as not all of them are in a hurry.

Whether someone can overtake Daisy is hard to say. She is both intelligent, bold and can be considered strong in some sense.

The other aspect aside from training to better themselves. There is also a feature in Perpetuity that allows for easy building.

This taught once a week and not for a long period. It is in its essence, teaching people how to use the building interface. This only becomes relevant once outside of the Pebble in the river.

It is a simple thing. Users pick a premade object like a wall. This object can be scaled and saved to be used repeatedly.

There are multiple such premade objects and they can be pieced together through a device augments the builders vision. This is not a projection but augmented reality.

Augmented reality takes a recorded image and displays something on top of it. Upon doing this, the builder can choose to have the objects built.

This is a slow process and can take hours, as the technology requires power that isn’t easy to access once outside the Pebble in the river.

Here game elements come into play again. People can allow the device to many different materials, all they have to do is summon it from their inventory.

Hacking down trees, collecting clay or materials used in cement, will become something very real to pioneers.

The actual teachings is to slowly create various structures. These are basic buildings, meant for short term emergency.

Later on these people buildings with proper logistics. Meaning plumbing mainly. This should be taught in the Third wave reinforcement camp, including more in depth city building strategies.

Perpetuity is going to support any outside expansion as a new state. Meaning a new country that has its own laws.

There is some lore excuse for this, but the intention is allowing people to create their own world, make their own laws, govern how they like.

How this will play out is difficult to predict. Perpetual Power has their thoughts on the matter but they will not disclose it.

What Perpetual Power did predict, was that people would not adjust to a virtual world without the instantaneous nature of the internet. As such, it is excused as advanced tech.

In the lore, this is all explained as being long distance networks using existing satellites, satellites they cannot interfere with anymore but can still use.

But this network only works within Perpetuity. The virtual world Perpetuity. Just like Vcoin can only be exported, the information within Perpetuity can only exported to the real world.

This is not only to give things within Perpetuity more value but also isolate people from the real world.

Even things like Daisy’s recordings, or specific her chat with her viewbase is not occuring in real time, but in perpetuity time.

Perpetuity’s time runs several factors faster than real time, and only people within Perpetuity can watch in ‘live’. While those outside watch an edited down version.

There are merits to both but those watching the version A.I. software edits experience substantially lower amounts of dull moments.

This A.I. takes the data from the recordings, reads through it and compares it to what it believes to be ‘entertaining’.

It cuts out anything it can until it reaches a duration is cut down to one fifth. For example, six minutes are cut down to one minute.

This is not a perfect system but is far superior to the alternative, The content created by a single person.

It’s in this way that Perpetual Power wants to entrance anyone not inside the virtual world. With so much content, all streamlined, it advertises for itself.

Most of this content doesn't matter. Majority of it can be considered wasted. But the few select, specifically celebrities, are highly valued and more resources are spent on their recordings.

Someone like Daisy should not receive special care, but because she is considered on the front of one many fronts, she is given additional coverage and attention.

This is in terms of Perpetual Power advertising her content and A.I. resources allocated to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

As these A.I. are always learning, this program will only become better in the future. As it learns what entertain humans more thoroughly.

Sorp would get similar treatment as Daisy. While he is not a very well known celebrity, he is one and one that has advertised for Perpetual Power and can be considered in the forefront of this particular branch.

There are multiple fronts that prepare people for the world outside the Pebble in the river. In short they are training people to handle more advanced B.F.M. weapons.

Because using a complex B.F.M. tool is like executing a complex gymnastic routine, without stamina and repeated practice, it is impossible.

It is exactly this that Sorp and the guys are learning in the Second wave reinforcement camp. And while it might be tantamount to mindless repetition, they do not find it boring.

This in spite of them not exactly enjoying exhausting themselves through the B.F.M. exercise, trying to feel out their endurance threshold or fiddle with various crafting professions.

All of which require rigorous practice, or at least fair amount of activity over the course of a few weeks. Rigorous in this case being persistent.

The longer they stay in camp, the more people enter the camp. These are the more dedicated people, all trying to catch up or just enjoying the challenge.

Sorp is seen majority of the time training in battle techniques. So much that he has once again taken the role of a teacher. Helping mostly women.

It can be said that intermingling in these camps become somewhat befuddling as these are active people, most physically fit and can be considered confident and handsome.

Say nothing about Sorp and the guys. The other people can’t be underestimated in their sexual adventures. How brazen it gets can be likened to theater students.

Sorp is currently advising two rather stunning women. This in the privacy of his room. Their bodies tangled together like snakes.

Due to Sorp’s large stature they are still unable to bury him with their bodies and instead appear to be hanging on his mountain like figure.

This has become a casual event for Sorp. As his presence is too large to ignore. His fame, handsome looks combined with his large athletic body makes him shine even in the bright of day.

Sorp is not the only person that attracts people wherever he goes. Quite a few men and women have their own following at this point. Some low tier celebrities like Sorp.

What they have in common is beauty, a unique demeanor and in this particular case, ambitions that allow them to stand where they are now.

This requires confidence and ability to rise above what is already considered cream of the crop in way. While not all those with ability and ambition are beautiful and confident, those that bathe in the limelight, certainly are.

These kind of people are also often proud and take their image seriously. Now what harms their image might differ, but any event harming said image, will be considered a threat to them.

This leads to some unsavory events. Sometimes this is public drama, leading to some sort of public humiliation. It can also lead to underhanded events where people are killed or punished in some other manner.

A provocation might just be being in the limelight. Take Sorp or Daisy. They are both considered somewhat famous, especially in the Third and Second wave reinforcement camps.

This alone may cause some conflict.
