Chapter XIV - If I'm Still Here You'll Burn

Why don't you burn the Princess's body and bury her ashes. Xathaneal says to Silver as he sits still next to her body.

Pearl had left the room about a couple of hours ago. Silver is just still in disbelief that Celestina won't ever be able to touch him again. “I don't want to bury her. She doesn't deserve that kind of respect.”

Then just turn her into ashes. Scatter them to help Nuriel with nourishment of the soil. Whatever you do to her is up to you.

Silver just looks at Celestina's body that is motionless on the ground. “I can incinerate her body instantly without burning my house down, right?”

While Xathaneal didn't respond to Silver, he already knew the answer. He can do it. He just has to put more control in the flame. He summons his wand and points it directly at her body shooting a ball of fire out from it. In an instant, her body completely disintegrated.

“She doesn't deserve any kind of burial. Maybe I should just throw her ashes in the trash.”

She definitely deserves being put in such a disgraceful place. I would support that.

Silver pages for his butler as he sits down going back to the work that he started before the princess came in.

It took him a minute to make it into Silver's office. “How many I help you my lord?”

“Please clean up the ashes and the blood that is on the floor. Afterwards you may leave to find work elsewhere if you so desire. There is no guarantee that anyone here will be safe by sunrise tomorrow.”

“Why wouldn't we be safe? You were blessed by Zarall making it so you are almost certain to win every battle that you are in.”

Silver looks up from his desk at his butler as he tries to analyze him and what he is truly thinking. “I won't stop you from staying but I am giving you and everyone else the option to leave while you all still can.”

“What about Noble Pearl? Will They get the option to leave? I know that my lord cares for them deeply.”

“I need to find a hiding place for them. I can't have them staying in that bedroom alone tonight.” Once when silver puts his pen down he stays silent for what feels like an eternity. “Where do you think that they should stay? Where do you think that they would be safe?”

“Why not with the High Priestess Gwendolyn? She was extremely close to your mother which is probably the reason why she chose to help train Pearl for you. Although, I do think that Mx. Pearl is probably safest with you.”

“Gwendolyn isn't a bad option. Although I don't know who's side the temple of Nuriel will be on. If the temple sides with the Depraysies then that could be trouble for them.”

“What about the temple of Zarall? They will surely side with you as someone who was chosen by their primary god. No matter who the temple of Nuriel sides with I am positive that Gwendolyn would side with you.”

Silver sits still thinking as he taps his fingers on his desk. “Might not be a bad idea to put them both in the temple of Zarall then. That way they both can be safe. Would Gwendolyn be okay with that though?”

What about a temple of Suriel? I'm sure “King” Depraysie wouldn't think to look there. A temple of Zarall is probably the first place that he would look.

“Even if that is the first place that they would look we simply don't have any temples of Suriel here in Astayle. Most countries only have one but we don't have any.” Silver says out loud but not loud enough for his butler to hear.

I thought that you did have one. at least you did around one thousand years ago. The old royal family must have destroyed it when Suriel cursed them.

“My lord. Do you want me to bring Mx. Pearl to you before I clean up this mess and inform the rest of your staff?”

“No, I'll get them. If you have time finish the rest of this for me please.”

His butler gives him a deep bow. “Will do my lord. May the gods shine brightly down upon you.”

"Lilliana, have you ever gone to the tree of the gods to relieve your blessing? If not then we should head there tomorrow together. The tree radiates with beauty with colors like a rainbow." Pearl asks their maid who just finished changing them for the night and is currently doing their hair.

"I couldn't do such a thing Mx. Frost. I have work that I need to do here. Besides my family has been known to be turned down by all the gods. Even if we are blessed it isn't enough to train or go to the school."

"Don't you want to know?"

Lilliana looks at Pearl's eyes through the mirror that is in front of them. "I am fine not knowing my liege. Serving you is the only blessing that I could ever need." Lilliana stopped when she heard a knock on the door to the room and froze. Did she stay too long? Is the head maid here to scold her for taking too long with her master?

"Come in." Pearl says as she puts her hand on Lilliana's frozen hands.

The door quickly opens and Silver rushes in and makes his way over to Pearl with haste. “We have to go.”

“Right now? I just got dressed for the night.” Pearl quickly gets out of her chair and looks at Silver with confusion and then the realization hits them. “It isn't safe here, is it?”

“Lilliana, I would like to thank you and your family for serving us all this time. You are dismissed. Go into hiding or find a job somewhere else. None of the von Stein properties are a safe place to be. May this be the last time we meet and the gods shine down on you to give you a path to walk with strength.”

Silver takes Pearl's hand and brings them out of the door into their carriage. “Pearl, I am going to put you in a secluded temple of Zarall in a very rural area of the country. Hopefully, Gwendolyn will be able to join you there. Remember, under no circumstances are you allowed to sign any kind of contract with the king if he finds you. You are also not allowed to leave the temple.”

Their eyes glaze over as his order processes in their head. “Yes sir.”
