Chapter 12: Shadow Demon Sect (3)

Chapter 12: Shadow Demon Sect (3)

I reach the main sect building where the main hall was supposed to be and was about to enter but the guards cross their spears to block my way.

I frown and ask,

"What is the meaning of this?"

"The sect master is having a meeting with the other elders. She has asked not to let anyone in the building", said the guard standing on the left.

"hmm, I see. But I still need to enter as I have some urgent matter to discuss with her. I am sure she wouldn't mind my intrusion ", I say and was about to move past them but they stop me again.

" I am really sorry young lord but we can't let you in", said the one on the right.

"I have not been here for a couple of years and you already forgot how to treat me?", I say looking the guard straight in his eyes, and, instead of backing off, he stared back.

'his attitude is really pissing me off. I am the successor of the sect, you're next master, where is my respect', I think in annoyance.

I was thinking about using force to teach him a thing or two when I feel killing intent behind me.

Although it was faint and would be ignored by low-level cultivators, it sure was deadly.

I turn towards Qin and see murder in her eyes.

In the novel, it was written that the first thing an assassin learns here is how to hide his killing intent. So they are very proficient in it from the start but she released her intent.

'How angry is she that her intent is leaking'

Qin was strange.

She looked like a serious and reasonable person but when it came to me she would act quite immature.

'It can't possibly be that she likes me or anything like that right?'

'hmm, I'll have to confirm this some other time'

I turn my attention to the guards who were blocking my way.

I also did not like their attitude but that was no reason to kill them. And there was also the fact that my mother probably would not like me killing them.

So I order Qin,

"Get them out of the way but don't kill them"

"Wha-"

Before the guards could even understand what I said, Qin appeared in front of them.

She took their spears, spun them in between her fingers, and smashed the rear end of the spear handles on both of their faces.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

If I did not have my eyes, I wouldn't have been able to even see her move.

'So she was that fast and yet she still ran behind me the whole time", I think inwardly.

It seems that even though my technique is better, I cannot overcome the difference in cultivation realms.

"Well done, Qin", I say and go into the large, imposing structure's entrance.

"Thank you my lord", said Qin and followed.

...

The main sect building had 6 floors.

Qin had already provided me with an understanding of the entire layout of the different floors, so I was already aware of which floor served what purpose.

The ground floor of the main sect building was a place where disciples would go to accept missions and receive rewards.

The missions ranged from gathering herbs and killing beasts to assassination requests and bounty hunting.

As you go up from the ground floor, you would enter the place where all the techniques, manuals, and sutras are kept. There were also some writings left by previous master assassins which were available to all disciples to learn from.

So the first floor was basically a library.

On the second floor, there were three rooms with spirit-gathering formations. This formation helped you increase your cultivation speed by allowing your body to accept more spirit. It did have a major effect on cultivation speed but used too many spirit stones so this formation use was limited.

Only the elders and core disciples were allowed to use this floor on specific days. but sometimes, outer disciples, who had shown potential would be allowed to use these rooms too.

The third floor was where all the money and secret or forbidden techniques were put. This was a well-guarded place with many high-level guards and an elder on duty.

Naturally, no disciples were allowed on this floor and only the sect master or a few trusted elders had access here.

The fourth floor was where the meeting hall was.

This was the place where the sect elders would report to the sect master about the important things related to the sect, some troublesome requests, and potential core disciples.

This is the floor I had to go to, but I was not sure if I had permission to enter it.

I enter the ground floor and proceed to the desk that looked like a reception desk.

I reach the desk and call out to the receptionist who was busy fixing some scrolls and bottles on a shelf.

"Do I have access to the fourth floor?"

"Just wait for a bi-Wait! you can't be in-"

When she turned and saw who I was she instantly bowed her head and said,

"Gre-greetings my lord, how can I help you?",

"Do I have access to the fourth floor?", I repeat.

"I-I-I am not certain about that b-but if you take this talisman you would be able to gain temporary access."

I pick up the talisman and was about to go when she calls out to me,

"M-my lord, t-t-the s-sect mas-"

"I know that they are having an important meeting and should not be disturbed.", I say and proceed to the stairs.

Leaving the reception with teary eyes and a worried expression.

As I was going up, I was thinking about different methods for bringing up the secret to my mother.

I had thought of three ways to do that.

There was the soft way, in which I ask her questions like 'why did you hide it' or ' did you even care ' in an emotional tone.

Then there was the hard way, in which I get angry about the fact that she hid all this from me for so long and ignored me while I was growing up.

Lastly, there was the direct approach, where I would directly question her, such as asking her 'Would you choose your sect over me?'.

I would use either the soft or hard way after seeing her reaction to me showing in front of her after so long.

I wanted to use the direct way but there was a problem with it being too random.

Suppose you go to see your mother after 6-7 years and the first thing you ask her is ' would you choose your job over me?'

In my head that just does not make sense and seems like a bad idea.

Because if you consider my reputation, she would think that I had done something bad and would get suspicious of me.

So I just put this as the last resort when the soft or the hard approach fails.

I reach the fourth floor and use the talisman to enter it.

I walk through a small hallway and see a big heavy wooden door.

I put my hand on the door, take a deep breath to calm my beating heart, and was about to push the door open when a screen pops up.
