3: Cheapskate System

VF - CHAPTER 3

This is bad ..., my virtual stomach hurts. After throwing up breakfast which I don't even remember eating in some corner near a large rock, I feel refreshed. I peeked from behind the rock, a stray arrow flew right into my face at high speed.

Luckily the arrow missed its target.

That arrow, if it managed to hit me then maybe I'll be one of these corpses. I hid behind a large rock trying to calm my ragged breath. This is too much for me, I can feel the adrenaline rush inside my body. This is probably my first almost death experience, though it's only in a game.

Basic: Menu and Control

Your Heads Up Display shows various information about yourself. On the upper left corner, there's your Health, Magic, and Stamina Bar that is crucial for you. If your health bar reaches zero, you will die. You can't log in to the game for 24 hours of real-life when you die. You will be revived to the nearest Temple of Life. Other penalties will be given when Magic or Stamina reaches zero. If you join a party, the party member's Health, Magic, and Stamina Bar are shown on the right corner.

You can access Status, Equipment, Skill Tree, Inventory and Game Setting in the bottom right corner. And in the bottom left there is the chat window, you can send a message and communicate with other players with this. But be careful when you send a message to open chat room and please don't send spam or other hate-filled messages.

You can control your body as you do in the real world. But if you try special moves like magic or active skills, you must activate them first. You can use the hotkey option to show active skills in your HUD. Please remember that active skill has a cooldown. You cannot use skills before the cooldown is over. For now, why don't you find a piece of equipment to protect your body from harm?

A paragraph full of information filled my vision.

That's not important! I am in the middle of a crazed battlefield! Damn it, did this game have an option to filter the blood and gore? Ah, in the setting there's that option.

After I activated it, the battlefield becomes less bloody. When NPC hit the others, the blood didn't come out and a polygon with light particle out from it. This game becomes more feasible for my weak mind.

Okay, move to the next problem! Where's the log out button?

As this is in the Tutorial Ground, you can not log out before you finish it.

Damn it! I can't skip the tutorial! Fine ..., so what now?

I desperately tried to use the menu, I opened up the inventory window.

Inventory

0/20

Damn it! Of course, it's empty! I just started the game, and this is the Tutorial Ground! But why I have no equipment to defend myself in this chaotic situation?

Uh, wait a minute ..., equipment?

I glanced at the corpse on my right side. A teenager that got dragged into this war ended up getting himself killed. His armor was decent, he wore pikemen helmet on the head, a chain mail within the blue padded cloth and trousers with leather boots. A pike -I don't remember what should I call this type of polearm is- the tip looks like a crossed spear. I think it's called partizan or something.

Yes, those are also equipment!

Without further ado, I walked into the corpse of the NPC young man and looted its equipment. I donned up the armor and wield his weapon. This is the first time I held a spear. But I don't think it's any different from a pole. I've trained using toya -a 180 cm staves used in Silat- for training martial art moves. But never once I used it in a real fight.

I move forward to find White soldiers. This is nothing personal, I choose this side because the corpse near me is Blues.

Basic: Attack and Defense

You can deal damage to the enemies by attacking them with a weapon or by using magic. You can also defend the enemies' attack with a shield or barrier. The damage dealt by your attack is calculated according to these factors, your Strength/Intelligence attributes, and Attack/Magic Attack values. Also calculating the enemy Constitution/Wisdom, and their Defense/Magic Resistance. Luck can also get into the calculation by adding a chance of a critical hit. The same rule applied when you defend your enemy attack.

Try attacking some enemies. The enemies or hostile beings will be shown with the red cursor while your ally will be in green. A neutral force is white in color. Varied cursor color will be introduced later. Note if you attack non-hostile beings you may turn them into hostile and become enemies.

Sounds good enough. Well, let's gain some exp point.

In the middle of this chaotic battlefield, there's a large number of small battles. The troop was disorganized while the General was in some kind of duel or something. Not like I care about the whole battle in the first place though. I found my prey. It's not that hard to find the most suitable kill, I can see an exhausted soldier from the white side panting his breath 50 meters on my west.

I sneaked my way into one of the exhausted white soldiers. Sometime before, he was fighting three soldiers from the blue side. Surprisingly he won over them with much difficulty. But right now he was standing trying to catch his breath. I jumped and rotate in the air, with the Toya Art I learned from Pencak silat, I smashed his head with the sharp end of the pike.

The system calculated the damage I just dealt with this white soldier. It took some millisecond before a series of numbers appeared from the place where I hit.

You have given 28 damage to the enemy.

A rather great number. I recalled that this Javadvipa race had basic Attack of 2,5 ..., was it because of my equipment? But the soldier wasn't dead yet. He screamed in agony after receiving my attack. I used this opportunity to attack him mercilessly. I swung my pike, slapped his helmet and then pierce the pointed tip at the face.

You have given 26 damage to the enemy.

Critical Hit! You have given 70 damage to the enemy.

You have slain an enemy!

Spoken by a female voice. Unlike robotic feminine voice like A.I sha, but a melodious voice actress that as if she just come out from popular anime.

Gained 40 EXP.

Great! You kill it on your first try. Let's proceed to the next step of the Tutorial. Please read the instruction carefully.

Basic: Looting When you kill an enemy, you will gain two things. The first is EXP and the second is item. You can choose to manual looting and search their body, this method is troublesome and time-consuming but maybe you can find something great from their corpse. Or you can auto looting, this method can be done instantly but the item you can get is limited. Note that, a corpse that starts decaying can't be looted anymore. You can loot from any corpse as long as it hasn't decayed.

Ohh .., well, I don't have time for manual looting for now as this place is full of stray arrow and javelin throw here and there. For now, I'll do with auto looting. A blinding light emerged from the white soldier's body and it disperses into tiny light particles. Three items dropped from that light particles. A pouch, a yellow gem, and a bottle. I pick up those items and read the item description.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Pouch of Saving Rare Storage A mini-dimensional storage artifact for storing coins. It can hold up to 500.000 coins. 4/500.000

Agate Gem Fragment Common Material Fragment of agate. Not very valuable.

Vial of Vitality Uncommon Consumable A vial of alchemical solution that could restore vitality and fasten recovery. Restore 40 Health and for 20 seconds +30% Health Regeneration.

I also auto-looted the blue soldier corpse and got another Gem Fragment with various colors and some other Common items. My Inventory filled with six-item type by then. Ah, if the same item if its non-storage item then in the inventory it will automatically be stacked up to 9 of the same item. That's why even if I get 12 items from the auto-loot, in the inventory it occupies six inventory slots. Pity that I can't get better equipment from these four corpses.

I killed my way. Finding lone exhausted white soldier. I killed them with a sneak attack. Maybe I'll develop some kind of assassin skill if I master this kind of attacking pattern. I avoided the group or troop that still has its own momentum. I will die if I dare to fight them head-on.

I hunt and my kill count reached 20. I also leveled up twice. I allocated the 8 points into strength, constitution, and dexterity. But strange ... why there's no further tutorial instruction? Did I really have to survive on this battlefield?

When I thought about that, a window pop out and blocking my vision.

You already familiar with automatic looting, why don't you try manual looting?

Is the content of the notification window. Why don't you say it from the start that you need me to try the two methods of looting?

I squatted beside the shining white soldier corpse that I defeated. I began rummaging his clothes and searching for treasure. If this is really a war, me doing something like this is a stupid thing. I will be an easy target to attack. But, no ..., it seems they didn't care about my being here. As if they ignored my presence as when I was in junior high school. This is perfect!

Ooh ..., this is? In my hand, there's a beautiful sapphire necklace.

Aqua Urania Rare Equipment Goddess of the Great Sea - Urania, bestowed Her might into this necklace. Contain a tiny trace of divinity. Can use Urania's Blessing. Durability 42/50 M. ATK 4 M. RES 3 INT 4 WIS 3 Equipment Skill Urania's Blessing Goddess of the Great Sea's blessing - for 30 minutes wearer gained abilities of Waterbreathing and Water Manipulation(Basic). Usable once every week.

Ohhh ... oh! Equipment that added over four attributes! And skill! I immediately wore it. I could feel strength ran through my body.

My magic-based attributes enhanced. But ..., come to think of it, I haven't yet learned any spell. Ah, forget it. I don't know how to learn it.

I took the shining armor and stored it inside my inventory. His armor differed from ordinary footmen, he wore a better quality. I bet it worth fortune so I take it. I don't have any idea to wear it though. I stick with the blue side from now.

Great, now you know that the defeated enemies are a treasure trove. Now, let me explain to you about skill and magic.

Basic: Abilities

Abilities are skills and magic you learn throughout the game. You have two main types of abilities. Passive and active. Passive Ability is constant with the unchanging state, when you learn some passive abilities you can not undo it and it will always on. While Active Ability needs you to activate it with Magic Point or Stamina Point. You can learn abilities from Master, Teacher, Guru, Shifu, Sensei, Deighan, Ustad or any skill holder that reached certain mastery over their skill. Or you can learn it by using Skill Books or Grimoire. Some passive abilities can be gained when you finish a certain quest.

For the sake of Tutorial, choose one of these abilities and try it yourself. This ability is only for trial purpose, you will need to re-learn it in the game later on if you want to use it.

What a cheapskate! I can use it in this tutorial ground, but afterward, I must re-learn it? What a black-hearted tutorial.

Seven Stance Slash Iron Wall Aspect of Gravity Barrier

I'm not using a sword or slashing weapon. Even though spear could also be used as a slashing weapon, piercing is spear forte. So a no-no for the S3. Iron Wall, it's a shielder skill, and I'm not a one. I choose Aspect of Gravity since my Magic Attack and Intelligence enhanced with Aqua Urania.

You have learned Aspect of Gravity *usable only in the Tutorial Ground

Aspect of Gravity

Active Skill Proficiency -/- Magic to alter physical phenomenon known as gravitation. Make opponents in the radius of 90 m from the position where you activate the magic weight while your body will be lightweight inside it. Cost 90 MP Duration 3 minutes Cooldown 4 minutes

I want to try it. This skill. Where is it, where's a white armored soldier?

I looked around and in the Stonehenge-like stone's arrangement. I saw six blue soldiers surrounded by white soldiers with a thrice amount of the blues. There is a soldier from the blue side who is the flag-bearer. The other five were protecting the flag-bearer with all of their might.

Perfect! I leaped at those groups.
