We're all friends here

We're all friends here

With a beep and swoosh, the futuristic-looking cell door opens. On the other side was my best friend.

"Frank! Good to see ye buddy!"

He just stands in his black combat gear and glares at me as usual. Not a real talkactive guy Frank. Hasn't said a word to me once in the three years I've known him. Truth be told, I don't know what grumpy's name actually is, but I figure I need to call him something since we're friends and all.

He beckons and I follow out into the white hallway with lots of other cells visible. I wave cheerily at the occupants as we go by, most raging away or screaming soundlessly as was the norm. My other friends are not that happy to be here, something I don't quite get but try to be sympathetic about. As we walk by one cell, a bright wash of crimson flames darkens the glass. Seems Charlie's going at it again. I give her an encouraging thumbs up; she flips me off. I grin. She's my favourite inmate, my second best friend.

As we plod along the empty hallways, I chatter about everything and nothing as always, him vehemently ignoring me.

I stop talking when we pass some porthole windows, gazing dreamily into space and at the Earth far away. This facility is pretty cool, built as a space-station type prison to house the greatest threats to humanity. I got moved here about three years ago, one of the very first inmates actually, before they even sorted out the artificial gravity. Just floating around was so weird yet great! Anyway, this place is much nicer than the other places I've been held in throughout my admittedly short life.

I suspect I was one of the biggest reasons they built this station; they panicked a lot when I pretended to break out a few times down on Earth - something I would never really do but they didn't need to know that, wink wink. I guess I'm pretty important to them, being a "god-level threat" and all.

Frank came to a stop before the airlock to the labs and opened it for me. I mock sighed as I went through to my monthly appointment with the 'greatest scientific minds of this generation'. Looks like it's another day of them trying to find a way to kill me.

Usually it's actually pretty fun.
