Chapter 1.1

Chapter 1.1

I left the lab in the usual churning chaos with alarms going off and normally reserved scientists reduced to tears. A good day so far. I don't think they were even too serious this time round.

Frank hadn't come to collect me yet, so I wandered off in the general smoky confusion. I loved to aimlessly walk around the restricted sections and wait to see how long it took for them to catch on. A fun game of reluctant cat and decidedly eager mouse.

They eventually found me lounging on the warden's king-sized bed, a huge luxury given the size of most rooms up here, after having changed his briefs into lingerie and spruced his overall colour scheme with some glaring orange and purple highlights.

The two gentlemen who found me tried to immobilize my grinning figure with their grim-looking stun guns - ones that could probably bring down an elephant given the caliber of prisoner kept here - but were left disappointed when I just extended my hands imperiously for the mandatory handcuffing.

I was given a severe talking to by the warden of course, but I could tell his heart wasn’t really in it. It may have had something to do with the helium filling the room and my resultant chuckling at the then cartoonish tirade. The warden was a serious man, while I was a force of nature that specialized in breaking serious people.

In the end, they confiscated all my belongings. Most inmates didn’t have anything to call their own, but I was the obvious exception. It helps when you can tug a bit at reality to make what you need. A bare cot became a comfy fold-back armchair. A few handfuls of shed hair made a nice pair of sneakers. A sheet of paper grabbed in the lab made a good portal screen. You get it. Or maybe you don’t. Anyway, this was a minor inconvenience at best, well worth it for the temporary alleviation of boredom and the resultant annoyance that I luxuriated in feeling. Emotions were becoming hard to grasp again so I relished the spark of anger I briefly felt.

My boredom could easily result in my fading from this plane of existence after all. Or alternatively the use of my abilities could spell doom for this world. A tough balancing act that had cracked me long ago.
