3 I Know Me, But I don't Know Me In This New Future

Veronika held not only the self awareness of her body but her previous existence as Wu Chen. Unfortunately, nothing more than that.

When the soul had been traveling through a spirit path from the void, blocks were added to the understandings that were cultivated from the previous life. It was a pity that she would have to restart again.

Yet, fortunately, she was given the Law of Wisdom treasure. Although, she wasn’t sure what this treasure was and its capabilities. If it was like most other treasures from her former life, it was likely some scroll or artifact that needed to be meditated on, which would then allow instant understanding of complex magic skills, nature affinity or cosmic connections. But it sounded like she was already carrying this treasure, and if it happened to be this System, then it was a strong likelihood that she had been duped and was screwed. At least, she confirmed one thing: a tacit awareness of the new world.

“Whelp. I have plenty of time to work it out. No point to rush things.” She noted.

And her gunshot wound was still raw, even if it was healing faster than it would on an average person. So no rush for anything but healing at this stage, especially when the howling winds outside the cavern would prevent a safe exit for some time. At least she could use the break to take stock of herself and surroundings.

“Must meditate and heal.”

Veronika positioned herself on the dry ground in a meditative pose of crossed legs and hands resting on her knees. She focused on the space before her, emptying herself from distractions, as she needed to reconnect her spirit energy to the world’s. In doing so, she had a chance to restart her spiritual cultivation.

As a thought entered her mind, she found a present physical fixture to connect to it, ensuring her spirit energy could tap into the surrounding elements. It was the start of her cultivation journey and the rebuilding of her meridian streams. The important task was regaining strength and personal power.

“Food. Must eat.”

“Was that my voice?” No, the tones were strained, and the words sounded more like grunts. Words coming from an animal. It entered the cavern, unawares of the human sitting in meditation.

[Arctic Snow Wolf. From its light-blue ridge on its back, the age is two human years. Male. Snow wolves can form mind packs with its prey to manipulate their preys’ deaths without active confrontation. As such, are known as passive predators. But the creature may also benefit you in other ways]

“Hmm. System, is this animal a danger to me?” she asked, but, to be honest, she wasn’t sure what to term the artificial voice in her head.

[You can call me System. This system is an artificial construct containing residual traits of the former Veronika Shepherd]

“You know I’m not the original soul of this body?!”

[Affirmative. Your mental processes alter neurotransmitter patterns, with a slight variation in typical neuron formations. But the variations should not be detected by other humans known to the body]

“What are you, System? Are you an implant?”

[Affirmative. My processes are attached to the temporal lobe near the amygdala. This ensures referencing of long term memory can be properly indexed and retrieved with appropriate triggers, even after archival in the sub-concision sections]

Before Veronika could ask more questions, the arctic wolf had noticed her.
