Alright guys welcome back to the unfortunate shit show that is my current life. Ordered the mobo, completely disassembled the computer, reassembled the new board and computer, red cpu light flashing.
”How odd,”comments the struggling author, “My cpu was not on the list of probable fail points, whatever might be the problem?”
The embattled would be writer gazes at the cpu socket and suddenly all comes clear. This is a 1700series cpu socket destined to be mated to gen 12+ intel cpus, where as that old workhorse coffeelake cpu is a generation 8. It does not fit.

suddenly there is suffering. I had to purchase a cpu, to accommodate the motherboard, effectively doubling the cost of the repair. What was an annoying but necessary bit of fixing has become half a new build.
I am posting this while drinking 8.5% beers because that is how I cope with such immense combination of happiness about pc upgrades and profound sadness about the expense.
I ordered the new cpu today. It should arrive in a couple of days. Beer and sushi are my only solace tonight.
in other news, because I require 500 words to share my pain with whoever actually reads this shit, it is deep fall and this is my favorite season of the year. Morning frost and hot coffee while I walk the wood line are one of those things that are hard to describe. Something about it is supremely peaceful, everything is still and sharp.
