It has now been a full month without a computer and I don’t like it.
I figured I’d just give everybody some laughs, I had to rma the new board because the pins were bent, cpu wouldn’t post. I tore out the server decks, since they were taking up way too much case space and now the build should come together like clockwork, seeing as how I’ve assembled and disassembled the damned thing three times in the last month. Soon as my board comes together in I should be able to install the lan drivers and fire it up.
Not writing for a month, but compulsively going over things in my head the whole time makes me think I have some revision ideas for book three, but overall, I actually kind of like how books one and two went. For all the slowness, book one managed to avoid becoming hatchet with magic, and However much people did or didnt like the time with the elves it was important to give the narrative some sense of progression without just introducing excessive murderhoboing for no reason, or sinking into that weird thing some authors do where the main character becomes the center of the world. I very much wanted to achieve a sense that Ulric was wrapped up in events as a fulcrum, but not as the real mover and shaker important but not the driving force. The pot was already coming to boil, his clumsy ass just happened to knock it off the stove. Or at least that’s how I wanted it to come across.

fleshing out the world as a tourist lost in a foreign country was fun and I don’t regret it at all. Plus, that really weeded out most of the people that struggle with reading comprehension or wanted a nice self insert to larp their feral wishes by proxy. Finally, it let me write my favorite character of the story, which is, without a doubt, Bald’rt. I didn’t plan that character to come together that way, but every chapter with him ended up better and I have fun just thinking about other scenes for the wily bastard.
book two was a little more traditional but I think I avoided things being stale, especially as the relationship aspects of the story became more prominent. Misanthropes make awkward romantics and the hedgehog’s dilemma between the two characters was a nifty writing experience. Especially given that neither ever figures out exactly how things are supposed to work, which seems fitting.
anywho this is just some meandering after work since I cant spend the time writing or editing. Maybe the fresh perspective will make the creative juices flow a bit cleaner when things are back online.
