Lukas froze inside of the freezer room and quickly glanced over his shoulder to see 'Daddy Jones' back from dealing with his customers.
The man seemed to have noticed that something was amiss because he addressed him in a way that made Lukas even more suspicious about the bar club's existence.
"You look a bit shaken up." the bar owner commented lightly. "Something happened, boy?"
What were Lukas' options in this scenario?
His stomach churned.
In the corner of his eyes, something sparkled and shimmered and he received what was none other than suggestions for him to take.
[Confront Bar Owner About Dead Body]
[Pretend He Didn't See The Dead Body]
[Ask About Humans]
[Ask About Vampires]
Drats.
"Just a bit colder than expected." Lukas laughed and dismissed the suggestions as he sauntered away from the end part of the freezer and approached the man.
He made sure that his steps were fast, light, but not in a rush. He didn't want to make the man suspicious… unless the man intentionally placed the box there for him to see?
Several questions danced around in Lukas' head as he pondered the exact reason.
"So um…"
"What is it, lad?"
"Blood comes from another living thing right?"
"That's basic elementary."
"I know, I know–but I just wanted to know who the supplier is. There's a lot of blood types, it's really neat where they find all of these people."
Daddy Jones frowned and then narrowed his eyes on Lukas. "Best not poke your head around things that are not of your concern. You're not going to meet the supplier unless we run out of stock for certain items and I'll be the one in charge of that."
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Okay," Lukas said. "I mean alright, thanks for the head-up."
"Is that clear to you?"
"Crystal."
"You're on supervision before we decide to fully hire you, alright?"
"Understood, I'll work hard."
"Finish your first shift and you'll get paid. Chelsea!" Daddy Jones shouted and the door swung open.
The light footsteps of someone arrived in the room and Lukas could barely believe his eyes. She was a fairly short young woman, bright pink hair and the typical red eyes that Vampire had. Clad in a uniform that hugged her features and kept her elegantly slim in the three piece suit, she was like one of those old-time cosplayers that liked to dress up.
Was she a certain type of Lukas?
Personally, Lukas adored all sorts of women from different shapes, colors and sizes–okay, that was a lie. He had a pretty specific type for women, but it didn't mean that he couldn't appreciate an attractive woman.
Chelsea sighed and placed a hand on her hip. "Are you sure we should hire him, boss? His head seems to be lost in the clouds."
"And that's why we need you to train him so he can man the serving." Daddy Jones sauntered past them. "He'll make a great addition for our women-area since he has decent looks after all."
"...was that a compliment?" Lukas blinked.
"He rarely dishes them out, so you're his current favorite now, I suppose." Chelsea frowned at him and eyed him from head to toe. "Not that I can blame him. You'll do well as a server–"
"I wanted to be a bartender–"
"Well, we do all sorts of jobs here." Chelsea said. "We're… we're a little short handed at the moment."
"Shorthanded?"
"A friend… a friend of mine had to quit. So we're understaffed." Chelsea walked out of the freezer area and back into the area for employees.
Lukas froze as he remembered the girl in the freezer–surely she wasn't referring to her, right?
Was 'Daddy Jones' some kind of criminal that kidnapped women, made them work for him and then killed them when they were no longer valuable.
As Lukas looked at Chelsea's form as she sifted through a closet and finally pulled out what seemed to be a dusty bartender uniform. Sleek black slim pants, a dark vest to be paired with a white buttoned down long sleeve shirt.
"Sorry, this is the only one we have right now. Once things get better, we'll make a more suited one according to your body time."
"It looks nice." Lukas reassured her as he picked up the hanger and tried not to sneeze.
"Is there anything else you need?"
"Bartending is–well, I know it's blood, but I was hoping for something more fun?" Lukas admitted sheepishly. "You know, do we add lemon, maybe garlic which I heard is an anticoagulant–"
"Knowing what specific type your customer likes and pouring a blood bag into a goblet without spilling it is bartending." Chelsea narrowed her eyes at him. "The fact that you're expecting someone else… Are you secretly watching humans?"
"What?" Lukas asked and hoped his expression didn't give away anything.
Luckily for him, Chelsea seemed preoccupied with cleaning the closet among other things.
"Before the cataclysm, a lot of human things were salvaged. You seem like the kind of person who'd watch random things on the internet, including old human films."
"About that–"
"... I don't judge. Humans and Vampires, while not exactly at the best at co-existing, did learn a lot from each other." Chelsea threw Lukas a look. "I'll go get the orders for now and you prepare them, alright?"
