Chapter 57
Rest Hell Days (part II)
The ground broke apart around the Inn itself, giving them enough distance and space to run around from one point to another without too much trouble. With a groan, the ground lifted up into the air, shaking everyone to their knees.
“What is going on?!” People screamed out in panic. Something like this wasn’t normal, especially when they were jostled around.
“We’re flying?!”
Silver braced herself, looking around nervously. She saw all six gates that were situated around the Inn break apart, pulling away from the land. Four more other lands appeared from the darkness, floating in midair with theirs. Each one seemed to be wrapped in wire-like bolts that shot out forward towards the far walls, keeping them afloat.
All five lands were in a circular formation, all hanging on a thick wire in midair. A giant pendulum rocked back and forth above the islands until it stood still. Each one swayed gently as the land eventually calmed down, allowing everyone to get up. Silver saw that on each land was one Inn in the center with people outside, looking just as confused as the others.
Even though she couldn’t hear them, she knew the basis of what they were talking about. The people here were all questioning what was happening before them and stared out confused.
The six gates moaned and groaned, pushing outwards and surrounding behind each land. It slowly rotated in a clockwise motion as each gate shuddered. Screams of monsters could be heard, banging against the gate, asking to be let out.
Everyone, except Silver, stepped back in fear, wondering what monsters were in each gate. What was terrifying was gate number 2, in which the bone dragon once was. That gate had a terrible silence that made Silver worry even more. She prayed that the bone dragon wouldn’t erupt out from the gate to come out and wipe them all out. There were cases, when she heard about the bone dragon, making its appearance and wiping out the whole Classroom with one swing of its claw.
People ran towards the inn in the hopes of hiding from the terror that was to come and even fought each other to get in.
“Move it!” A girl angrily yelled, yanking back a young man.
“Watch it bitch!” Another shouted back, pissed off that he was stopped, but when the girl tried to push her way through the door, it didn’t even budge. It was as if the door wasn’t allowing them in at all.
“What are you doing?!” A guy shouted, angry that the girl wasn’t going in.
“The door is stuck!”
“Then move aside!” The guy shoved her and attempted to break down the door. Even still, the harder he punched, kicked, and even swung his weapon, the door to the inn didn’t budge open, and stood tightly closed.
“I wouldn’t waste your time on opening the door,” Kushiel stated, her voice resounding towards every island. Each inn is not going to let you in until you guys complete the six hours time limit. Other than that, everyone is forced to participate even if they are hiding in the inn right this minute.”
Just on cue, the hidden players inside the Inn suddenly materialize out of thin air, appearing before everyone who was there.
“Now, with that being said, why don’t we let the gates roll!” Kushiel stated excitedly. A giant pendulum over head
The six gates started to spin, and the island groaned and moved up and down, side-to-side. Even the giant pendulum moved back and forth in different directions, until finally the six gates started to slow down. As if something was pulling the giant pendulum towards a certain direction, it pointed directly towards Gate number 1.
“Ding! Dang! Dong!” Kushiel replied happily. “Gate number 1 it is! Survive for six hours or kill the boss to end the game!”
Gate number one, floated upwards and descended downwards into the center of the islands. It spun a couple times around, while the six lands shot out a mechanized pathway towards Gate One. With a loud clang, it hooked up with gate number one, telling everyone that they were connected towards the dangerous gate.
With a loud pssh like sound, Gate number 1 cranked slowly opened. Silver could hear the cries of the monster, yelping excitedly. Inch-by-inch, the monsters squirmed to get out. One of them was able to push themselves through the small opening, pulling themselves outwards.
Silver saw a green goblin. It was the lowest level monster that she knew of that existed in the game. Their sharp beady eyes, ugly canine like teeth, wrinkle skin that could pass as an old hag, and a gangly body that barely had any muscles.
Even still, she knew that they were trouble. Fighting them one on one wasn’t a problem, the true problem lies in the numerous numbers that the goblin always seems to come with. When the first came through, another followed, just as quickly one became twenty then hundred and even reaching a thousand. Not a single one had a single pair of clothes, but ran around naked.
“Shit.” Tyler spoke, staring at the large crowd of goblins that were forming around the gate. He knew that they were in deep trouble if all one thousand came rushing towards them. “What is wrong with this game?” He worded breathlessly at what he was seeing.
Even Silver felt a bit uncomfortable at the sheer numbers. From her guess, each island had about twenty to forty people who had survived the two weeks. So in total there were about 60-240 people left, if she thought positively there could be around 240 still living to combat against the goblins, but on the other side these people probably still weren’t as strong enough, making this a serious problem.
The goblins all stood in front of the gate as if they were waiting for something. Suddenly from behind them, an ugly looking deformed goblin with a feathered hat was sitting on top of six other goblin’s backs. Silver instantly knew that his goblin was the leader of this thousand group army.
“What in the world is that?!” Rose spoke disgustedly at what she was seeing. Her nose crinkled, and she frowned deeply. “That thing is one ugly goblin.”
Silver quickly glanced around her to see how many people were in her class. In total, she counted about twenty-five. Fourteen of them were her guildmates, and the remaining ten were people she didn’t quite know. Majority of them were males and only a good handful were females, in which Silver had expected. There were no elderly or children in the group, making Salphie a rarity. Even Jasper, who looked like a child, was uncommon.
Right now, Silver knew that she needed everybody's cooperation if they were going to survive. She didn’t know how the goblin chieftain would react or how many they would send towards them.
She quickly called out to the remaining group of scattered people. “Listen to me!” With a loud voice, she grabbed everyone’s attention. “We need to work together if we want to get out of this alive!”
The others turned towards her with fear, some with lost hope, and only her group with silent dedication towards Silver.
“The more you kill and take their crystal, the stronger you get!” Silver explained. This wasn’t the time to hold back on such important information, especially if it meant surviving. A single person who survived today was another extra body that could help her out during the whole week. “As you all know that the crystals are important! Also each monster that you kill, you can harvest them for Angel Coins! Not every single one can be harvested, so it's important that you know what to get!”
Everyone started to listen more intently to what she had to say. Quite a bit of people have seen her in action, and even saw her bring a large harvest of materials for Angel Coins. They knew that she wasn’t someone that would easily lie at this moment, every word that she had stated made everyone cling on to her word as if it was their life.
“The goblins are the lowest class monsters in this game and are not difficult to kill. They're weaker than an imp, but as you can see,” She motioned towards the goblins, “is that they make it up for numbers.”
People nodded, understanding what she meant.
“So, what do you want us to do?” A long haired teenager asked, crossing her arm in front of her as she cocked her hips. “We’re not all experienced fighters. There is only a certain amount of things we can do!”
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“I know that’s why you fight together in a three man team. Our goal is to survive and kill the leader.”
“Wait, what?” One of the guys asked, completely taken aback at what she had said. “Kill the leader? Are you nuts? We can barely survive against a thousand, and you expect us to go in there and risk our lives? You’re crazy!”
“She’s not crazy.” Jasper cut in, frowning at the half hysterical male. “She makes a good point, kill the commander and the army will be in disarray.”
“What are you talking about kid? There are a thousand over there right as we speak! Possibly even more!”
Jasper rolled his eyes not phased by what the guy had said. “Trust Silver. She knows what she’s talking about, and I bet she has something up her sleeve.”
“I don’t even know her!” The guy waved his hand in front of him accentuating the word girl.
Jasper snapped forward, kicking the man to his knees. The man fell downward in pain, his eyes watering with tears as Jasper stared at him square in the eye. “Your chance of surviving is dwindling, so if you don’t want to listen then fine, but I swear.” His voice intensified, “if you mess up Silver’s plan or harm her, I’ll make sure to come after you.”
Silver raised up her brow, quite surprised at Jasper’s threatening demeanor. To see someone like Jasper get angry in his child form was weird, but it was still quite intimidating that a cute and beautiful face was threatening someone’s life.
Jasper backed off, turning towards Silver as he waited for her reply.
“Well,” Silver coughed once, trying to get that scene out of her mind. “The goblins are weak against fire. Their strength is not strong, but their devilishly quick. You need to watch out when they start to stomp their feet in anger.”
“Wait, what?” Rose looked at Silver funny. “Stomp their feet? Why?”
“Usually, they get angry easily and you can think of it as their special attack or charge. When that happens, DODGE.”
“If you say so.”
“You should know better than to say that.” Grunted Tyler. “I bet you're going to forget what she’s going to say in the first place. I wouldn’t even be surprised you died from forgetting.”
“I would not!”
“Sure~” Tyler rolled his shoulders not caring that he pissed off Rose.
“Anyways, split up into three, before they attack.” Silver stated, she glanced back at the goblins, watching for any movement. So far, all she could see was that the goblins were splitting up into groups like Silver’s group. There weren’t just five to a team but about ten with one large burly looking goblin mixed in with it.
Silver’s guildmates listened, breaking up into threes. Amy, Jamie, Ariel teamed up together. Ren, Salphie, and Rose. Brook, Rook, and Tyler were the third.
“Briana, go with Ronfonoso.” Sam stated, peeling her off his arm.
“What?! Why?!” Briana cried out at the thought of leaving her brother. “I work better with you!”
“You need to work with others.”
“Then what about you?”
“I’m going with Silver.”
“Hah?!” Briana was stupefied by Sam’s answer. She did a double take before she finally was able to bring her emotions back in check.
“Look, Silver is going after the boss monster and I want to be there when she does.”
Briana's eyes became wide when she heard what Sam had said. Silver on the other hand was quite amazed at how quickly Sam picked up on her thoughts about heading towards the boss monster as quickly as possible.
“Are you serious?” Briana asked, looking over her shoulder towards Silver, hoping that she wasn’t going to say yes.
Silver nodded without a second thought. She knew to end this game quickly was to go after the Goblin leader, especially if they wanted less casualties. Having an elite team entering to go after the Goblin was imperative for survival. Making this fight last for six hours was a sure way to die, and she didn’t want that.
“I’m going with.” Jasper started in a hurry. He didn’t want to be left out from Silver’s endeavor. “No way are you leaving me behind.”
The corner of Silver’s lip went upwards. “I didn’t state I would.”
“Good, because you’re not stopping me.” Jasper placed his hand on his hip as he cocked it to the side.
“I wouldn’t dare.” Silver chuckled. She was glad that Jasper was tagging along.
“I’m going to have to sit out on this game.” Ronfonoso cut in, he was lazily swinging a chain in his hand. “LIke I said, I can’t join in on this game until you guys complete the preliminary trials. I can only do so much, and this isn’t one of them. So, I’m going to go take a rest at the inn until you guys are finished.”
“Wait, is he allowed to do that?” Tyler asked, confused at Ronfonoso’s sudden answer.
“Yea, he’s an ex game master.” Silver replied. She didn't like the thought of Ronfonoso leaving them behind in a crisis situation, but he understood that he wasn’t allowed to play yet.
Ronfonoso turned around with his hand on his head, he then reached over and opened the door as he stepped in. The others were alarmed at how easily he entered without any problem. They were staring enviously at him for entering a safe area, while they were being faced with a deadly situation.
“How is that possible?!” One of the guys cried out in disbelief. “We couldn’t get in there, but he can?! What kind of bull shit is this?!”
“Calm down, we’ll eventually be able to get back in,” said Tyler. “We should instead focus on our predicament before we even think about going into the Inn. Look. The goblins are moving.”
Just on cue, the goblins started to stomp in unison, creating an eerie feel. They shrieked in excitement, banging their chest. Groups of goblins started to split up, heading towards each island in droves of groups of sixes. They were excitedly screeching at the prospect of a fight and started to sprint towards the humans that were left on each island.
Luckily, the goblins didn’t send out as many but two groups each to every island. Silver guessed that they were just scouting parties to test each island weakness. She knew this too well that the goblins that were being sent out were just sacrificial pawns.
“Shit! They’re coming!” Tyler cursed, not liking how many were coming in their direction.
“Quickly! We need to stop them before they get on land!” Silver bolted forward, knowing full well that they have the advantage if they picked them off on the bridge.
The others quickly heed her words, and rushed behind to follow her. They too understand that once the goblins crossed over, it would become a free-for-all, making the fight that much harder.
Silver pulled out her gun, loaded her regular bullets. She aimed and fired, the loud sound of bullets rained death down upon the goblins that came over the makeshift bridge. Six of the goblins fell down dead with their bodies bloodied with holes. The others screeched back frightened at the sudden death of their comrades, some even starting to turn around to run away.
When the goblins that did attempt to run away, the buff looking goblin, who had a machete, hacked its own ally for dissertation. This gave the goblins incentives that they couldn’t just leave, so instead they pushed forward as best as they could.
The buff looking goblin squealed out an order, the goblins picked up their dead comrades to create a shield, and they pushed forward. Silver didn’t expect these goblins to be smart, she knew then that the problem lied with the buff looking goblin that was ordering them.
Her hair flew wildly behind her, she quickly changed her aim towards the buff looking goblin and fired. There was no way that she was going to allow the first batch of goblins to break through and she was going to make sure to leave a large pile of death and destruction behind. She steeled her heart, ready to take on the first flow of goblins at hand as her lips turned into a snarl.
Her bullets flew towards the goblin holding their dead comrade in front of them, she was able to injure quite a bit of them who were peeking out to see, but the majority of them were well behind their shield to stop the bullets from killing them. Still, she was pleased that at least half of them were dead, allowing the fight to be much easier.
Pulling out her sword, she swung as she flew by. The goblins fell by her blade, cutting down as many monsters as she could as she ran through the thick crowd. The buff looking goblin screeched out in anger, pounding his hand together. He ordered his goblin soldiers, pointing at Silver.
Silver swings her blade like a tornado.
The goblins fell one-by-one with their heads cut off, arms missing, and even their legs gone. Green blood spewed out everywhere, but that didn’t stop Silver. She stung her sword forward, stomping into another to pull out her sword. Then she twirled it around her, cutting another by the stomach, causing their guts to spill out.
With a growl, the buff looking goblin hoisted up his heavy sword. He snarled at Silver, disliking how she had caught down all his soldiers.
“How ugly?” Silver slashed down another. “You don’t like that?”
The goblin leader grunted as if he was answering Silver’s question.
Silver cut in a horizontal motion, clashing against the goblin leader’s blade. She pushed hard, causing the goblin leader to slide back. He drugged his clawed toes into the ground for more support, but he was still pushed back by Silver’s sheer strength. With a smirk, Silver took a step to the side, causing the goblin leader to stumble forward in alarm.
“Gotcha.” Silver stated with glee, her sword snaked in and sliced off his arm, holding the blade.
With a cry of pain the goblin leader faltered, holding its injuried arm. He bumbled backwards, fear in his eyes.
“Come on!” Silver yelled with such ferocity that it startled the goblin leader. With a frightened squeal, the goblin leader scrambled backwards, trying to run away from Silver as fast as it could
“Oh no you don’t! You’re not getting away!” Silver stated angrily as she chased the goblin leader down. Jumping up, she aimed her sword and threw it as hard as she could. Comet, her sword, flew in the air, piercing the goblin leader in the back as it fell onto the ground dead.
Silver smirked as she landed, she stood up straight, raising up her gun to fire her next barrage of death. All the goblins who saw her dropped their shield, and squealed in terror at her power.
Without even blinking an eye, Silver aimed and rapidly fired until every single goblin that came across the bridge was dead.
“Holy mother of-!” Tyler spoke amazed at Silver’s quick reaction and speed. The amount of goblins that she killed was so fast that not a single person was able to do anything. Everyone who saw her just stared at her with a gaping jaw, awestruck by her power.
“You killed them all before you could allow me to do anything!” Tyler laughed, pleased at how strong Silver was.
“It was nothing.” Silver replied, putting away her gun as she walked over towards the dead goblin leader. She placed her foot on the carcass and pulled out the sword. Satisfied, she crouched down, she took out her dagger and began to fish for the crystal.
