Four soldiers at front.
Behind the front was a long row formed by six goblins, with two soldiers at the extremes, two soldiers in the middle with their shields covering their heads, and two crossbowmen positioned between the soldiers at the extremes and those in the middle (SCSSCS).
The next row was similar.
The final row was formed by four crossbowmen, who although stayed in a bad position, the back side generally was the less attacked.

So, with a better defense, the legion continued its path, arriving at the zone where the explorer died. The legion was received with arrows.
Fortunately, the shields worked and the arrows didn't manage to meet their goal. In this way, the crossbowmen could locate the archers, who were goblins, and subsequently defeat them.
After this battle, the boy ordered the restoration of the normal formation. He then invoked two more "alerts" and continued the exploration.
The rest of the exploration was complicated. The legion constantly ended up fighting with many real goblins under a rain of arrows. In this way, the boy had to return to the safe zone four times due to wounds and fatigue before completely clearing this floor.
