1) Why does this story even exist?
The storms of life, and admiring the works of others (including other fanfictions) drove me to face my fears and publish my own. I've been a backseat driver on many forms of media for years. Cheering the creators on when they make me happy. Rewriting the story to suit my own fancy when they do not.
Predator is one of those movies a girl is supposed to enjoy while covering one eye and trying not to be squeamish. I don't think women are the target audience. Not quite like with Alien, where so often a woman is the lead. But I love both franchises.
I have not read every fiction or fanfiction. Although, I have read a lot. I am not fully versed on the lore. Some of it, I purposely avoid because I don't want it to overshadow what I WANT/NEED to believe. Hahaha. But I try to stay true to the basics. What made the original great. Mimicry anyone? And big guns?
2) Why a romantic subplot?
Why not? Unlike with most media/literature, I tried to take my romantic plot in a slightly different direction.
We're used to swashbuckling heroes who rescue fair maidens and damsels in distress. That's par for the course. Life doesn't always work like that though. With the weight and problems we see in the world today, a random alien newcomer would have a greater chance of running into a woman with at least a few minor life inconveniences. This isn't a Knight Rider episode.
What if that damsel is a little damaged? Not necessarily physically, but mentally. What if she is broken and sad? How do you save someone like that? Especially, when you are an alien with no real comprehension of what is going on underneath the surface? In this case, Crank must not only save Simone's life, but ultimately what amounts to her very soul.
3) Why this title?
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
Because a romantic subplot involving an (OOMAN) and a yautja seems unlikely. Mostly. Whether due to fear or vanity.
The "mostly" part is a tribute to little Rebecca (Newt) of Aliens.
4) Motivation?
I have read and listened to several predator fanfictions. Some canon; some not. I have seen a majority of the movies. Except the last three. I have watched the reviews and some reaction videos. I make no judgments.
What I was attempting to do, is show a facet of these creatures I had not yet really seen. This part of my speech is basically out of my mini audioblog:
We've seen rogues, murderers, bloody thirsty hunters, and (Fanfiction reference incoming) lustful beasts/sex enslavers. That's pretty much all we see.
But I can't see a species which prides itself on NOT harming women/females being sex traffickers. UNLESS...There are subtle shades to all of their personalities. They are not either one thing or another. They are individuals. Capable of independent thought and action...When they so choose. Kind of like us humans.
We see rogues who only say: "I'm tired of this. I'm just gonna kill!" Where are the innocent defectors? Where are the angry subtle outcasts? Where are the tired warriors who don't want to see their kin die needlessly at the talons and jaws of angry xenos? Where are the patient, kind lovers? Where are the intelligent ones? The geniuses? They must exist.
There are sometimes allusions to war and infighting but one must ask 'about what?' Are we talking a school of young yautja who one day decided to sit on their hands and touch grass rather than hunt? Are we talking about a group of militant yautja staging a coup because they no longer want to be food for xeno nymphs? In any society, you will have upheaval and dissent. Why is it so important to hunt down rogues? Why not just let them be? I think too much. And these are the kinds of stories I come up with. Many such stories will never be seen by eyes other than my own. I just love the lore.
Thanks for joining my mental floss session.
Every human/humanoid can be a monster. Or they cannot.
