Chapter 74 The first blood

Chapter 74 The first blood

William quickly jumped into Photon's cockpit and started the engine. "Do you want to enjoy killing an enemy plane, Rebecca?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at the plane.

"Oh, you bet." Rebecca answered with a wink. Then the two engines roared, pulling the two eagles into the air. "Take care, William!" Ranran shouted from the ground with concern. "I will!" William replied, but his voice was soon drowned in the howling wind.

Photon's propeller whirled, while William kept his eyes on the screen, using radar to see where the drone fighter was.

A few seconds later, a dot appeared on the screen. It was closing in on them fast. But because of thick fog and heavy rain, the drone had not yet seen them.

William made a smart decision: he suggested that Photon and Rebecca turn around after approaching the drone sideways, but keep out of radar range, and then slowly bite its six o'clock position. They two agreed. "However, if the beyond-visual-range strike fails to shoot it down completely, something good is about to happen." He said mysteriously.

"Dogfight it?" Rebecca asked, puzzled.

"Yes, dogfight. I'll show him who's more flexible." William said, pulling the lever left and back. Photon's body tilted to the left and changed course. As Photon's loyal wing plane, Rebecca followed him closely.

They were speeding through the fog, getting closer and closer to the dot on the radar. William controlled his breathing so that he would not overstrain himself. Photon and Rebecca also searched for the target carefully.

"Good, he didn't see us." William breathed a sigh of relief as they came closest to the drone fighter. "Now we'll go around behind it," He said. Photon and Rebecca changed course.

Through the hazy fog, William could make out the outline of the enemy plane. He locked on to it with radar and then precisely controlled the speed of Photon. "Look at my gestures. If I give a thumbs-up, we can attack it with missiles." William told Rebecca over the radio, and she nodded.

They were getting closer and closer. A green icon popped up on the screen and William gave a thumbs-up. Suddenly, Photon and Rebecca fired several missiles at the same time. They shot bright lasers, aimed at the drone, and then sped toward it. William looked nervously ahead.

Unfortunately, the enemy plane spotted the missiles and maneuvered away from most of them. Only a few hit less vulnerable areas. But William did damage to it anyway.

"Fuck!" William cursed loudly. He was well aware that, once jettisoned, it would be difficult for the missiles to change course and hit the target again, since they carried a little less fuel. This was the fatal flaw of this kind of missiles.

"Man, this is the show. Get ready to have some fun with it." William clenched the joystick and adjusted the nose of Photon so that he was pointing at the drone.

Its sharp nose came closer and closer. Unable to contain his anger, William pushed the button. The plasma machine guns and cannons that Photon carried ejected bright red and bright green bullets at the same time. Rebecca, not to be outdone, fired hard. The drone was taken aback by the barrage of bullets, but it struck back just as hard. As a result, Photon and Rebecca were both shot several times.

"Well done!" William shouted, "Are you all right?"

Both planes said they were fine. "That's not enough damage to affect our flight, Master." Photon said.

"That's good. I think he was pretty scared just now. Come again!" William changed tactics. He decided to stop attacking directly and start a real dogfight.

Photon and Rebecca turned to different directions and climbed to higher heights. William saw that the drone fighter chose to attack Rebecca. So while he warned her over the radio, he stealthily controlled Photon to bite it.

Rebecca skilfully turned one corner after another, while the enemy plane struggled. The fog was thicker, so once she appeared in its window, it would fire whether it actually hit or not. The bullets just missed her.

Photon followed Rebecca's maneuvers, while keeping the drone as close to his window as possible. It had to be said that William was really good at taking advantage of every great chance to shoot, because he could coordinate perfectly with Photon. William also temporarily turned off the firing switch of the cannons. "These cannons are for attacking big targets." He thought, "I can shoot it down with machine guns."

Within moments, both the drone fighter and Rebecca were hit several times. But the materials in their shells were very strong, so they could hold on for a long time.

The enemy plane turned to attack William. This time, it pulled out all the stops. It quickly moved to William's six o'clock position and took advantage of its speed to keep biting him. Photon had reached a maximum speed of 850 km/h, but the drone could cruise at 200 km/h even faster. Although the turboprop engine could reduce heat generation -- much of it was used for working -- yet William didn't want Photon to get too tired.

The enemy plane was firing extremely hard. Photon swerved desperately to avoid being shot too many times. But his body had already been burned by plasma in dozens of places. He and Rebecca did have a maneuverability advantage over the drone fighter, but they couldn't get a speed advantage anyway. The performance of the three airplane was extremely close, so it would not be easy to get rid of tail biting.

"Master, I can still hold on." Said Photon, gritting his teeth. He caught a glimpse of Rebecca launching a fierce attack from behind the drone. Yet the drone seemed to ignore the bullets behind it. It was only interested in William at the moment, and had no time to worry about the damage caused by Rebecca.

William had a good idea. He suddenly opened the flaps and slowed Photon down. Sure enough, the enemy plane was in front of him. Now he could get his revenge. Bullets were fired by all the machine guns together, and they hit the drone's shell. It started to wobble a little, but still sped up and turned a corner, coming back behind Photon and Rebecca. A barrage of bullets sped past them.

William had an advantage in terms of damage, but it wasn't significant. He knew that they would not be able to withstand a long and fierce attack from the enemy plane.

Suddenly, he thought of a perfect solution,

"Yeah, why don't I use the Thach weave with Rebecca?"

This was a tactic invented by earthmen over 190 years ago. When the main plane and wing plane were bitten by the tail, the enemy could choose one to attack, while they could turn in different directions from each other, and turn in the opposite direction as soon as they met. Therefore, in this process, the enemy plane would have to bite one of the planes, but it also exposed its huge body area. The other plane could seize the opportunity to do a sneak attack.

William told Rebecca his idea quickly over the radio. She agreed at once. The two planes looked at each other and then immediately began to coordinate.

The drone was in a panic. It didn't understand what they were doing. Instead, it chose to attack William. "Attack, Rebecca! Use the cannons!" William said.

"Roger that! "Rebecca replied, controlling her flight path.

Viewed from the air, the paths of Photon and Rebecca looked like two sinusoidal curves with different phases. The enemy plane behind them was following William. Photon was getting shot all the time, though not many bullets hit him. William now understood why his father had made Photon out of such materials. With any other material, he would have died long ago.

Rebecca was a quick learner. After the first crossover, the drone appeared at her window. So she pulled out all the stops. The result was impressive: a section of the enemy plane's tail wing fell off.

"Nice!" William exclaimed.

"Master, it doesn't matter, I can still hold on." Photon went on saying so, even though it looked like he was about to turn into a sieve.

William closed his eyes. He thought he could hear the whispering voice mocking him, "No more useless struggles! There's no way you can shoot it down!"

"NO!" He thundered, "Of course I can!"

The voice was so frightened by him that it disappeared without a trace.

Rebecca fired some bullets, and they hit the drone's engines. One of the engines stopped, reducing its speed advantage. So William managed to get Photon off from being bit tail and bite it. His anger had melted into the bullets. He and Rebecca had used up all their missiles and continued to attack with a barrage of plasma shells. Finally, the drone fighter exploded in the air. Its fragments scattered like brilliant fireworks and fell to the earth.

"Master, we finally won." Said Photon feebly.

"Yes. A few more shots, and you'll crash." Said William, looking at the sieve-like Photon and Rebecca.

"But anyway, we'll celebrate your first blood." Said Rebecca. She was pleased to see a contented smile on William's face.

The two planes returned to the ground smoothly. Ranran didn't wait for Photon to stop and rushed at him. She hugged Photon, saying with a crying voice, "You finally come back, heroes! Look what you've become!"

Aria sobbed quietly and Natalie's eyes watered. "No, dear Ranran. Justice is worth dying for." William comforted her, "This is just the first step. Next, that You-Know-Who will take even more cruel revenges on us. But even if I were dead, I must let him know," he took a deep breath, then raised his head and uttered a deafening cry,

"His schemes will never succeed!"
