This world is rotten, horrid, and very unfair. Those who weren't born with silver spoon in their mouths, are destined to slave away in the mines, never amounting to much and ultimately dying. Whether it be from exhaustion, thirst, starvation, or even from other people who wish to take your life, everyone in the mines will die without even being remembered.
To be honest, I'm not much different. Though my luck was better than others, atleast when I was born. When my parents had me, they had done everything they could to ensure I had a better life than they did. They had even saved up money before they had me and even starved themselves just so I could eat. Everything was going fine and my life was good, until one day my luck changed.
After a very tiring run around the underground city that I called home, I had just finished my very last chore and collected my hard earned xin. Though it wasn't much, for someone who didn't have to spend it, it was very good.
I was halfway home when I sensed something was off. It was a gut feeling I had grown to rely on as it had saved me in a few sticky situations and I trusted it fully. This was a bad feeling so I picked up the pace and sprinted home as fast as I could. As I drew near the feeling got stronger and I ran straight into the door, bursting it open.

What I saw was world shattering. My mom and dad dead on the floor with crude makeshift weapons stuck in them. "What the hell!" I screamed out but no one turned their heads in my direction, they didnt care at all. I ran inside and knelt beside my parents, inspecting their wounds. The weapon in his back was the only visible injury on my dad, but on my mom she had a hand print around her neck and the weapon was in her gut.
My mind was racing "who could have done this, why would they. My parents never wronged anyone and they stayed out of trouble" I thought to myself as I felt tears well up and begin to sting my eyes. As the tears rolled down my face I caught a glimpse of movement and snapped my head around just in time to see someone exiting the house's door at a very fast speed.
Without thinking I raced after them. I chased after them through alleyways and around houses but after 2 minutes of chasing them I realized they were getting further and further away and my legs were burning with pain more intense then I ever felt, but that didn't stop me. I kept up the chase for another 20 long seconds before I could run no longer and I tumbled to the ground.
As I saw their figure disappearing the last thing I did was scream out to them "WHY" my scream was more of a shriek but it was enough to get the to stop. The robed figure turned around to face me but all I could see was their nose and mouth. That bastard was smiling.
