The singing of the birds echoes through my room, waking me up. I can feel the warm trace of sunlight passing through my window, illuminating my room. A glorious day is about to start.
Why am I waking up in such a positive way? you may ask…
Well, today is a very important day for me, maybe the most important day of my entire life, and I am not exaggerating. In a little more than an hour I will be taking the entrance exam for one of the top schools in the city.
Impressive right? Of course it is. Attending a top school is no joke, it can drastically boost your chances of attending a college and getting a high pay job.
Normally, these types of schools are attended by highly skilled individuals. Super intelligent people, with potential for greatness. People with excellent athletic traits that differentiate them from the rest.
At least for me, this is the type of people that come to mind. On the contrary we have me, who graduated middle school with the bare minimum. I am not smart at all, and I lack talent. Compared to the students attending the school, I am a mare piece of dirt mixed with diamond ores.
But then, why am I taking the entrance exam if I am basically an idiot? Well… I don't know either.
One day, I got an invitation from the school director himself to attempt the entrance exam. Of course, I immediately thought of this as an error, because there was just no way I was getting invited to that school with the grades I had. Even crazier was the fact that in the letter the director said that they were willing to accept me with only fifty-one percent on the exam, which is insane considering they look for a minimum of eighty percent in order to pass.
After throwing the letter to the trash can, another one came the following week, this time the director said he understood if I was hesitant and wanted to confirm things by inviting me to the school. So, me and my aunt headed to the school and to our surprise, everything was true. The director also explained to us that the reason why I was getting such treatment was because I was referred to by someone inside the school. When I asked him about that person, the director told me that he insisted on not revealing his identity and that I would soon find out. Although that sounded super suspicious, I didn’t push further.
After getting back home and receiving multiple hugs and kisses from my aunt congratulating me, I immediately started preparing for the exam.

Here is the thing. I bet you think that the reason why I graduated middle school by the skin of my teeth, is because I didn’t study, I didn’t do my assignments and I just didn’t try hard enough, but in reality, I’m just dumb. No matter how much I study or practice, my grades never really improved. That doesn't discourage me though. I will be studying like crazy the whole summer in order to pass that exam
After day and night of studying without stopping, the day has finally arrived. I hope that those sleepless nights will bear fruit.
I woke up at seven in the morning. Being the entrance exam at eight thirty I have more than enough time to make it.
I have planned my whole routine for this day, so it will be perfect.
First, I'm going to make breakfast, that plus eating and cleaning it would take twenty minutes or so. Then I will brush my teeth and comb my hair. I already took a shower last night, so it saves me time. Lastly, I would change my clothes and check my backpack is ready, just in case I forgot something last night. After that, I should still have one hour and five minutes to get to school. I already know it is about thirty minutes to get there. I could use the time left to revise my notes, with that I'm sure I'll pass. My plan is flawless.
My aunt Jane should have already left for work, and my little cousin is probably still sleeping. I'll try not to make too much noise, so I don't wake her up.
"Chris, what are you doing?" Suddenly, a sleepy voice coming from my door interrupts my thoughts.
"Eh? Emmi? Why are you up this early?" I ask her in confusion.
"Huh? It is eight already. What are YOU! doing? Sitting there in your bed staring at the wall? Didn't you have your entrance exam today?".
"HUH?!" I checked my phone. It was eight already. How did I end up spending one hour sitting on my bed? Well, I don't have time to think about it, I have to run.
I got up, rushed to my closet and put on the school uniform. I don't have time to waste, I'll skip breakfast this time.
"Mom said yesterday that she would leave something in the fridge for you if you happened to waste time again staring at your wall" Emmi said to me, still rubbing her eyes in sleep.
"She knows me too well..." I ran to the kitchen.
"Your phone...".
I ran back to grab my phone. Then I went to the kitchen, and in the fridge was a sandwich on a plate next to a bottle of shake chocolate, a letter attached to it "Love you, Jane".
I put the sandwich and the shake chocolate on my backpack and headed to the entrance door.
"I'm leaving!" I shouted while getting out.
"Good luck," Emmi said, still sleepy.
While running I checked my phone, and it was eight twenty. I have ten minutes to make it, I have to run with all my despair.
