Arc 1 Chapter 1: Meeting with God, but wait God is our friend?!

Phew, I finally finished chapter 1. I intended to finish it last Friday but I had a writer's block because I knew where the story was going but didn't know how I was going to set all things in place. Anyways here's my new chapter!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Year 2002, Unknown place-

~Matt’s P.o.V~

I woke up with a start as I sweated profusely.

It must have been a dream… A terrifying nightmare, in which Leah is about to be hit by a truck because she tried to save a kid who did not see the truck. In the dream, I  had only enough time to jump in front of her and try to shield her from the impact. Even so, I think if it really happened, we would have both died. Wow, my dream was so depressing. Thankfully, it was not real, but why was this dream so vivid?

While I pondered through the dream, I noticed something. All I see is darkness, so it should be still night time, but shouldn't I be on my bed and not on a cold hard floor? Also, my whole body is glowing faintly with golden light. Why didn't I notice the light beforehand you ask? Because I wasn't paying attention to my surrounding, okay?! How was I supposed to expect this?

Does this mean, I'm really dead and that wasn't a real dream? My mind raced as I recalled the event before my “death”. It was supposed to be a normal day, like every other day. Since it was summer vacation, I decided to hang out with Leah. You must be wondering how in the hell did an unsociable guy like me who clearly stated that he would not be friends with a mute girl? Well… Don't remind me of my dark history!

A year after Leah moved to our school, I finally had the courage to… I meant I felt like I could… Uuu… Even I want friends to ya know!

A..anyways, we became friends. She's my first friend outside of online games. I..I..it's not because I am a loner, it's just… most people in my class was boring and they talked about uninteresting stuff.

What do I talk to Leah about? Um… that's not really the point in my explanation, right?

Back to my little story, we became pretty close since last year and even walked to and from school. As a friend I mean… don't get me wrong we are not dating… I definitely do not have does kind of feelings for her…

Why the heck am I explaining everything to myself? Hmm… I wonder why.

Back to reality, I better scan the area, I'm hoping that certain somebody is still alive. I don't know how much of a chance she had for surviving that impact, but I can only hope that's don't find her.

From about ten feet away from where I was, I spotted the unconscious body of my friend. Hah~ God, was it too much to ask of you to save her? I walked toward her and called out her name.

In response, Leah stirred slightly. Not waking up, huh? Fine then, I have a very good trick to wake her up. I smiled mischievously, and leaned close to her.

I stretched out my arms and tickled her mercilessly. Leah's eyes fluttered open with a look of surprise, and started to panic. Hahaha, that did the trick. After rubbing her eyes with her frail hand for several moment in a very cute way, she looked at me intently and pouted slightly.

Huh? My face suddenly feels hot! Why am I… it must be the place we are at… it kinda hot in here. Yeah! That's why my face feels hot.

I think Leah wants to tell me something, but she doesn't have anything to write with.

“You know, since you two already died, you can just speak to each other through your mind.” A nostalgic voice called out to us, and blinding light flashed in the room. I closed my eyes as to not be blinded.

A girl about two years younger than us appeared from nowhere and the room turned back to pitch dark. Was she another dead person? Her body emitted bright blue light. The light was enchanting as it waved back and forth while the girl walked toward us.

Pure brown hair ran down her shoulder, and her almond shaped bright purple eyes complimented her hair. That's a bit odd, does brown and purple match together?

“ It's been two years since we last saw each other right? Matt and Leah, it's nice to see you two again.” The girl spoke with a hint of ecstasy. However, she also sounded sad to see us.

I recognize this girl from somewhere? But where have I seen her before? She did say it's been to years…The unexpected recognition turned my eyes wide from shock, in front of me was someone who went missing since seventh grade two years ago!

Elizabeth Jones, the girl who was Leah's first friend. If I remember right, she went missing the day after meeting Leah. Her parents have been looking for her frantically, calling the police to report her missing and searched for her every single day. Why was she here, more importantly where exactly is this place?

“You two definitely died after getting hit by the truck. Right now, we are in a time suspended dimension between parallel worlds created by my predecessor. Basically, this place is middle of nowhere” Liz waved it off with her hand nonchalantly.

Oy!Whats with that way of speaking! Leah and I died and you just act as if it's a normal event!

“Now, now Matt, no need to be frustrated. I'm just stating facts ya know? Every mortal beings must die at one point or another. It was just a little too soon for the two of you.”

Why does Liz sound as if she is not a human? The way she just refer to us as “mortal beings” and she answered my question in my mind before I can speak out. It's as if she is…

Liz launched into an explanation, “Yup! I'm God, or at least that's what I became two years ago. Its quiet simple, there are many God “candidates” in Earth, and only in Earth. When a God decides to retire after getting tired of being almighty, and powerful, he or she retires. The previous God browses through records of “candidates” that are still alive in Earth and summons the “candidate” to Celestria.”

Huh? God candidates… retire… God?! What the heck is going on?! I'm so confused, so there is omnipotent God that gets chosen every time the former God decides to retire? Then why haven't there been any evil God?

“You see, all the God candidates are monitored carefully to find the most suitable ones, so there has never been a case of evil God. In addition, we are not that omnipotent since we nor any other divine beings could change a course of action or go back in time to change future result. If I could, I would have saved the two of you from that accident.” Liz gazed at us with saddened expression while making eye contact with both of us.

Leah listened to our talk(?) intently. Wait, can she even understand what we are talking about? I mean Liz is the only one physically talking and I'm just thinking up questions.

What a melodious voice, it entered my mind with soothing ton… WHAT?! Was that Leah? Okay, calm down me, if you get surprised by every little details, you will definitely go crazy.

“Hahaha, you are right Matt, if you drop that jaw more than you already are, you might choke on a fly. By the way Leah, nice job figuring out how to use telepathy. I know I bounded your souls together but being able to do it consciously is a very huge feat. You have more control than Matt since he is transmitting his thoughts without knowing it.”

Realizing that my mouth was open after Liz mentioned it I quickly shut it. So Leah can hear my thoughts but I can only hear hers when she wants me to hear it… That's interesting, I need to figure out a way to control it.

Oh! Right, we should be asking about those…

“Hoh? Is that all you can think about? Matt you are very short minded, no? I thought you would have questions about your soul binding and why that allows telepathy. Well, whatever, I'm kinda tired of explaining it myself so I transfer the knowledge to the two of you.”

Who are you calling short minded?!

Before I can retort any further, streams of informations enter my “brain”, since we're not alive anymore, does that mean we don't have brains? Well whatever, I thought while shrugging  my shoulders.

According to my new knowledge, soul binding allows us to be able to communicate with each other no matter where we are at. It's literally a process in which part of my soul was given to Leah and I get part of her soul in exchange. The small part of our souls allows us to be connected with each other like an invisible change. The benefit of soul binding would be our ability to telepathically speak to one another and find each other no matter the place. In case of emergency, we can teleport to each other's sides. The downside to the ability is if you are mortal enemies, you would be able to find each other and kill each other. Thankfully that is not the case with Leah and me. By the way, teleportation limit for each of us is three times.

Now to the reason why we have been given this special ability even though it would be useless to us since we are dead. Liz was too lazy to explain the situation so she not only transmitted the knowledge about the binding but also the reason why she summoned us.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

It's quiet simple actually, Liz wanted to spare us from our fate. That's quiet selfish for a god since she is showing favoritism, but I'm not complaining. In Earth, the rise of population caused the demand for more soul while not many souls in heaven agreed to go back on Earth to fill in for the shortage of the souls that the God could not produce fast enough. In order to buy some time while the God create enough new souls, Liz's predecessor, the former God, decided to create a system in which 1 out of every 2 deceased one’s  soul gets ripped apart into shred and combined with others to create new souls. The so called soul recycling was u fair but necessary in order to support the drastic increase in human population.

The predecessor decided to retire before coming up with a solution to this pending problem. Apparently, if Liz had not brought us to this timeless dimension, we would have lost our identity and soul and became a part of a new born children of our world. Liz decided to save us by taking us out of the cycle, however, since we were forcibly yanked out our fate, we can not go to heaven nor hell. For now at least. Instead, Liz decided send us to one of the world created by her predecessor’s predecessor. Apparently, the world we are going to is a world of swords and magics with many different sentient races along with humans. The place is not as well developed in technology as in Earth because of heavy reliance in magic. Because of that, the whole world is similar to medieval England. There is no such thing as computers or phone in the world, crap no video games…

Because we are force to enter such an unknown world, we are given our previous memories, bonding between our soul and greater blessing from our race gods or goddess. Those with greater blessing of the gods are very few in the world we are about to enter since the deity of that world usually do not mess with its inhabitants. However, the ones with the greater blessing gain the ability on similar level to the God or goddess they were blessed by, of course that is based on the deities specialties. For example, if a deity of sword gives you his greater blessing, you have the potential to be on par with the deity in sword skills. However, the blessed ones must work hard in order to improve and control their powers. Also, the blessing, even the minor ones, allow the blessed beings to be able to understand languages of all races.

We are apparently going to be reincarnated, and since when we are still an infant, our small brain won't be able to process all of our memories so we will have our memory back after we turn into two years old.

In addition, every living things that are sentient have stats and levels, just like fantasy games. It might be unsettling to start my life in a new world, but I was drawn in by my obsession in games. This world might be advantageous for me since I have played many fantasy games, read light novels about reincarnations recommended by my online friends. I admit, I was an otaku ever since I started seventh grade…

*Cough* Leah, don't read my mind!!!

“Well, an otaku is a Japanese term for people with obsessive interests, commonly the anime and manga fandom.”

Don't tell her, and how did you find the exact definition for it?!

“Well, I am the God after all…”

Wait! TIME OUT! Leah just forget about it! I'm going to die from embarrassment. The knowledge transmitted by Liz helped me get my telepathy under control so that Leah could only hear when I want her to. For Liz, well, she can read my mind no matter what so I didn't care. I was so deep in my own thought that I let what I was thinking to reach Leah. Ugh…

“Hahaha, as much as I love both of your companies, I must now let you two to be sent to the new world.”

Leah looked dispirited while asking Liz.

Leah has only met Liz once, but they got along so well in that single day. They became close friends, but the day after that, Liz disappeared suddenly. Other students started rumors such as Liz got kidnapped and killed, she ran away from home, or the most ridiculous rumor of she got abducted by aliens. Leah was depressed for several weeks because of her disappearance so of course she would be depressed to leave her friend again.

“At least we were able to have nice and long girl talk.”

Leah nods in agreement.

Wait! When did that happen?

“Well, it is ungentlemanly to eavesdrop on lady talk. So I blocked you out of it.” Liz stated as matter-of-factly.

I shrugged once again. , I used telepathy to state my point of view.

“Alright, off you two go. To the new world! Hurry, don't let the new world to wait for ya!” Liz opened a gate that was described by the knowledge.

The swirling 2 meter diameter circle that sparkles in circular motion. The gate look like a wall covered in twirling rainbow puke. This portal is made not by Liz but by Fate.

Who is Fate? She is one of the major deity split from Liz herself. Well, it's like having two Liz in charge of different jobs. Fate is not as powerful as Liz since she is only in charge of strings of fate. When you say in charge however, it doesn't actually mean she can manipulate people's destiny. That seems to be impossible for even Liz, the successor of the deities that created not only Earth, but many different parallel worlds. Fate can only watch the event unfolds as it progresses.

So, how did they change our fate? They actually didn't, since we died, our strings of fate was destroyed. I don't actually know how this string thing works but I guess you have no more destiny after death so you aren't bounded by fate anymore. This is the first time in trillions of parallel universe history to have souls from different world reincarnate into the parallel world. That kinda makes us special I guess.

But because we are not bounded by fate any longer, even Liz won't be able to see any events that are caused by us. We are the only beings who can actually change the fate of others! Sounds awesome right? But this does not mean we can change fate of others only in positive ways. If we make a blunder, the fate of those we change might be worse for them then what was actually in stored for them.

This is kinda heavy, but Liz assured us that we won't even notice it since we don't have foresight, so we won't have to question every move we make. Even so, I can only sympathize with those who we might change…

My mind wandered off to think about things regarding the new world. My mind jerked back to reality when there was a tug on my shirt.

Leah:

Me:

We entered the gate together, hand in hand to challenge whatever this new world will throw at us.

~3rd Person P.o.V~

Liz was left in the suspended dimension by herself and she started to worry about her two friends who started their one-way journey to the new world. She wasn't particularly worried about their safety but there was a small worry tugging at the back of her mind.

‘Fate was in charge of reincarnation, so they should be fine’ Liz thought after awhile. However, the reason why Liz was worried was because of how Fate acted very childish sometimes. Even if she is part of Liz, ever since they became two different identities Liz and Fate’s personality began to differ drastically… ‘Maybe I should have supervised the reincarnation process…’

A blinding light appeared into the empty space and a new figure appeared. The middle school girl that came from the light look exactly like Liz. Except her pupil were heterochrome with silver and gold. Her hair was also different color from Liz. While Liz had light brown hair, the girl had pure white hair.

“I finished sending them to Arixar”, said the white haired girl.

“Thank you Fate”, replied Liz, “But did anything happen to the two of them while reincarnating? Nothing went wrong I presume.”

Fate replied, “Well… Um… They have been sent without of problem… And I kinda made them reincarnate as a twin…”

“Fair enough, at least that can be expected since they would want to be together side by side.”

“Also, I sorta made Matt into a girl because of his personality…”, whispered Fate.

Liz barely heard what Fate was saying.

“Hmm… I see, Matt was reincarnated as a girl… a girl…. A GIRL?!”, finally registering what Fate was saying, Liz yelled out in shock. “Fate! What the heck were you thinking!”

“I just wanted to see a forbidden yuri sister love? Teehee?”, Fate tried to act cute to avoid trouble.

“FATE! YOU IDIOT!!!”

Yay, start of reincarnation, however the story will start when they become two years old in order to make things .... less awkward for me. See you all at my next post XD.
