"Why do you not show yourself to the humans?" Ares asked the carefully concealed Wind Spirit. To the average person, there was nothing conspicuous about the forest; there were trees and flowers as far as the eye could see. But to a trained eye, the Wind Spirit could be seen hovering between two treetops.
"And why don't Water and Fire?" the Spirit asked, their voice every bit as androgynous as their older sibling, yet far airier. "Even Earth knows better than to reveal themself to humans, even though they hold them in such high esteem."
"Why are humans not to be trusted? They're living beings the same as the other races, are they not?" Ares asked, still getting acquainted with his role in this world.
"It is not that they can't be trusted so much as they are over-reliant. Compared to the other races, they are young, inexperienced, and still learning."

"Yet still destructive." Ares smirked knowing he was right.
”Would you expect anything less from inexperience?” the Spirit countered.
“Perhaps what they need is a better teacher.”
“Are you volunteering?”
“I’ve never been the teaching type. Besides, this is far more your world than mine. If you expect change, you have to ignite the change yourself.”
“You speak of past failures.”
“Obviously.” Ares rolled his eyes as he leaned his back against a tree crossing his arms in the process. While he didn’t like how secretive the Water Spirit was, the Wind Spirit was just irritating to talk to. “You repeat the same mistakes again and again and expect the results to be different. We humans may be inexperienced, but at least we learn.”
“Were you not my equal I would have a word about respect. However, your advice is logical. Out of all the humans we’ve chosen, only you have openly questioned our judgment.”
“That’s another thing. Why pick humans?”
”Who says we always have?”
