A shiver ran down Sonia’s spine as she met Maxwell’s frosty stare.
Before she could muster a response, Maxwell’s grin broadened as he took a step closer.

“You’re reading too much into this!” Sonia hastily said, her voice laced with a plea for peace.

Following a series of subtle barbs, Maxwell finally shifted the topic.
“So, where are you headed?” he inquired.
“Just visiting Adrian,” Sonia answered, glancing away before dismissing him casually.
“I’ve taken enough of your time.
You should be on your way now.

Believing he was about to depart, Sonia quickly corrected his path.
“You’re going the wrong way; the exit is over there.

“Who told you I was leaving?” Maxwell halted abruptly.
“So you’re still here because…” Sonia paused.
Then, realization dawned on her.
“You’re here to see Adrian, too?”
“Yep, I’ve got a business matter with Adrian.
It makes sense for me to visit him,” Maxwell explained with a crafty smile.
Then, he pushed Sonia’s wheelchair to walk toward Adrian’s ward.

“Then let it happen,” Maxwell said casually.

Sonia was furious.

“Same to you,” Maxwell responded calmly.
Their bickering continued all the way to Adrian’s room.
Unfortunately, Sonia never seemed to gain the upper hand.
Just as Sonia was about to turn and hurl another barb, Maxwell declared, “We’ve arrived.
”
They entered Adrian’s hospital room together.
Inside, Jennifer stood with her arms crossed and a stern expression, staring across the room at Adrian.
As Sonia and Maxwell entered, Adrian, alerted by the noise, turned around.
His face broke into a wide smile upon seeing Sonia, and he began clapping and laughing, rushing over to greet her.
“Sonia!” Adrian exclaimed, surging forward to embrace Sonia.
