Regarding the Eldengar

Regarding the Eldengar

The Eldengar can be associated with wizards, or as Tolkien has described his own version of wizards, however, what differs the two is that Dúleardi, the goddess of nature and balance, created the Eldengar as a sort of mold between an animal and a humanoid. Whether the exact choice is from a specific race, i.e Elf, Dwarf, Human, or Drake, or from an animal is entirely dependent on how the being's nature is itself.

Tolkien likens wizards to angels descended, and I wanted to come up with something sort of similar but unique in its own right.

The individual chosen to be an Eldengar by Dúleardi's will can opt out of being one. That being said, if they decide to join the ranks, they are mostly stripped of genuine emotion as not to let emotion get in the way of what needs to be done by Dúleardi's will; but emotion is a strong sort of magic, and can overcome an Eldengar at any time, so the individual must always be able to check such emotions when they grow to become problematic. This excludes passing emotions, such as ire, subtle anger, displeasure, and joy. Strong emotions, such as love and hate, are generally the deciding factor in an Eldengar's leaving the order.

For example, The Eldengar Bœrvitgr chose to leave the order when he fell in love with an ursine of the Lower Realm and spawned two children, Arla and Ern, but was then slayed by Dyremidr in his efforts to protect his nephews.

The Eldengar Tryggan has wavered between unfeeling and emotion more than once, and indirectly perished under the drake Ieghos' destruction of Tala'anaim when he was not strong enough in devotion to defend himself.

Before Ban had the option to become an Eldengar, Ciluyue fell in love with him. Both have agreed to let their emotions go to carry out Dúleardi's will, but Ban himself sometimes struggles, as he is still learning to control such strong emotions.

List of known Eldengar, past and present, ordered from rank:

"There was and has always been only ten," said Azmond. He used his fingers to count as he said each name," Synbaor the Wise, the head of the pack. Falkend of the Wind was his second. Lady Ciluyue you all now know; she is the pack's seer, healer, and voice of Dúleardi. There was Aslaef and Tryggan, who I know for a fact were killed protecting Caercíene from Ieghos. Lady Sereane was quiet and shy, but she looked up to Ciluyue and wanted to, at some point, follow in her footsteps. Nakalo and Erthgäl were watchers of the northern and southern territories, reporting to Ciluyue of the wellness of each. Cese and Geren... I somehow forgot their roles."

Lord Synbaor, head of the Eldengar during the Fall of Dractalemh, died during the war against The Red Sky.
