Chapter 17 – The Church

[Ares has established [The Brotherhood]. For this incredible feat Ares is rewarded with 5 Honor Points]

I logged out of Absolute Authority and ran to my computer. I was extremely tired and needed some sleep but right now, this was more important.

I quickly go online to the AA forums and immediately found the thread I was looking for. The thread said “Ares creates the first guild, [The Brotherhood].”

The thread was filled with multiple readers. I read everything on the forum in order to find the information that I was looking for.

In just 3 days, [The Brotherhood] collected 25,000 gold and bought the smallest guild mansion available that could house 150 adventurers. Even though [The Brotherhood] has over 3000 people right now, their first goal was to establish the first guild in the game, which they did. But the opinions to this action is varied, these are some of the replies:

“[The Brotherhood] is indeed the best guild.” – Kline

“What?! These guys just took the easy way out. If [The Brotherhood] has such huge numbers, they should have just collected enough money in order to buy the biggest guild mansion.” – Zilonis

“Shut the fuck up Zilonis, are you retarded or something?” -Viles

“Butthurt much ^” – Zilonis

“Congratulations!” –  player2

After I read all the information I was looking for, I finally went to bed to get some much needed sleep.

I woke up the next morning to the yells of Haley calling my name from the kitchen.

“James wake up, today’s the Atlas scholarship test!” – Haley

“Mm, alright, I’m getting up now.”

I finally got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I was in a particularly good mood this morning because of my pleasant dream last night. I dreamt about Iris, I saw Iris and I going on adventures together and along the way, we would see many romantic sceneries. Well that was a strange dream.

After washing up, I head into the kitchen looking forward to eat Haley’s delicious food. Haley looked at me when I entered the kitchen.

“Somebody’s in a good mood… what are you grinning about?” – Haley

“Who, me?”

“… Who else would I be talking to?…” -Haley

“Oh *cough*, umm I just feel like I’m going to ace the exam today.” You don’t need to know about my dream….

“Good! Well I wish you good luck.” – Haley

“Thanks….”

We ate our breakfast and I started getting ready to leave for the exam.

“Wait James, I’ll go with you.” – Haley

“Alright, hurry up”

Haley and I got on the bus that would take us to Atlas University. Along the way we talked about our recent adventures in AA.

“How did the Kingdom Event go?” – Haley

I told Haley all about the Kingdom Event. She was very excited when I told her that we defeated the leader and Garan got a skill that could turn himself into an explosive bomb.

“I also received a spellbook from a quest I recently completed with my friends.” – Haley

“Oh, what’s the skill?”

“It’s a secret, but it’s really good!” – Haley

Tyhuko’s Ramblings: Haley>Axle.

“Hmm, you’ll just have to show me when we meet.”

“Alright.” – Haley

The bus stopped at Atlas University, Haley and I got off.

“Good luck! I’ll wait here until you’re done” – Haley

“Alright, see you in 2 hours.”

I walked towards the entrance of the University and saw Nick waiting for me by the gate.

“Hey James, you ready to pass this test?” – Nick

“You bet!”

We walked further into the University looking around, checking out the campus. Atlas University was definitely something special. Everywhere you could see happy people talking, beautiful trees in the background, and marvelous buildings that complemented the scenery. This place is truly only for the rich.

I told Nick about how much I liked the campus.

“Haha, usually you wouldn’t care about these things but maybe AA is slowly changing you.” – Nick

“…”

Is it?

*thud*

Suddenly, I felt something bump into me and fall down. I looked behind me and saw a somewhat nerdy kid on the ground who had dropped all his books. Do I know this person, he looks somewhat familiar. Nevertheless, I helped him pick up his books.

“Sorry for bumping into you, and um… thank you for picking up my books” – Nerdy Kid

“Uh… no problem.”

The nerdy kid started to run off, probably towards his testing classroom. I swear I recognize him from somewhere, but I don’t know anyone who talks that awkwardly. Ah, whatever, I got to focus on my test.

Nick and I went to the classroom we were assigned to, ready to take the test.

Two hours later

“Ah, I’m so tired. I just want to go home and play AA” – Nick

“Same, how do you think you did on the test?”

“Eh, alright. How about you?” – Nick

“Honestly, I think I did well. Speaking of AA, hurry up and come to Edilath so we can play together. I want to see you fail as a tank.”

“Shut the hell up, I’ll show you that I’m one of the best tanks in AA.” – Nick

“*Cough* I doubt that….”

What did you say?!” – Nick

“Haha, I'm just joking. Let’s go home already and play some AA.”

Nick and I went our separate ways while Haley and I went back home on the bus.

When Haley and I finally got home, I checked the forums once more. You know, just in case something important happened again. Apparently 2 more guild have been established. [Purge] from Salia and [Vengeance] from Prilian. These 2 guilds don’t really affect me at the moment, so I don’t really care. It’s time to play some AA.

After I ate lunch, I went back to my room and put on my VR Headset.

[Do You Want To Connect To Absolute Authority?]

“Yes!”

Darkness started to consume my vision and then everything turned pitch black.

When I’m finally connected to AA, I respawned outside the pub I ate at last night. There was nothing unusual happening so I decided to visit adventurer’s square. There were many adventurers there looking at stalls and buying items that they needed. I guess I’ll just set up my own stall.

I set up my stall in the usual spot and started to sell all the goods that I had obtained from the Kingdom Event. The stuff I was selling wasn’t anything special, just some crude and basic tier equipment I got from the goblins. I would probably gain more money from identifying equipment rather than selling this junk.

I priced my equipment cheaply so it sold fairly quickly and my name is also well known now among the Edilath Adventurers. I gained about 15 gold for my equipment and 30 gold for identifying equipments.

Identifying equipment isn’t as lucrative anymore because more and more people have obtained the identifying skill. So the price for identifying equipment has dropped significantly. But I knew this was bound to happen sooner or later, so I’m just glad that I was able to get a lot of gold before the market started to drop. You know, it’s all economics.

*Sigh* Now that the Kingdom Event is done, I feel like I have nothing to do. I want to go on some crazy adventure but I have no idea where to start. Whatever, I’ll just check if Francis has anything for me to do.

I pack up and go over to Francis’s stall. I told him that I was looking for a quest that someone could give me.

“I have nothing for you at the moment, but my sources tell me that the church is looking for some adventurers to help them with an important matter. Why don’t you try talking to them. You can even say that I recommended you.” – Francis

“Thanks Francis, I owe you one.”

Just like Francis said, I went to the church that was located in the northern marketplace, closer to the castle. Unfortunately, when I tried to enter I was stopped by an angry priest.

“Stop, you can’t enter!” – Priest

“Umm, sorry. But why can’t I enter?”

“Do you not know the law boy? You must hand over your weapons before entering.” – Priest

“Oh, ok.”

I reluctantly handed the priest my sword and axe. I’ll fucking kill you if I don’t give them back. After handing over my weapons, I entered the church and was kindly greeted by another priest.

“Hello adventurer, what can we do for you today?” – Priest

“Umm, hi, I heard that you guys are looking for some adventurers to help you with something important. The merchant Francis recommended me.”

“Ah, you are correct. Let me take you to the back to see the high priest. He will see if you are fit for the job.” – Priest

The priest brought me to the back to greet the high priest. When I finally saw the high priest, I was surprised. He was really old, frail, and blind. This man definitely has some secret to him, otherwise he couldn’t be the high priest.

“High priest, we have a guest who is asking about the quest. He claims that Francis recommended him.” – Priest

The old man *cough* I mean high priest started to walk towards me in a slow pace.

“Ahh, Francis recommended you, so you must be someone special. Come lad, let this gramps see you.” – High Priest

How can you see me, you’re blind. Nevertheless, I walked closer to the old man and when I was within arms length of him, the old man started to use his hands to touch my face.

“Ahh, I feel a power inside you boy, something great. I can see it, the great potential you have boy and the great challenges you will face in the coming future.” – High Priest

“Umm, thank you, does this mean I get the quest?”

The old man stopped touching me and went back towards his chair. But since I’m such a courteous man, I helped him get back to the chair.

“Ahh, thank you. Are you ready to face the challenges that await you, lad?” – High Priest

I thought about the old man’s question for a couple of seconds but in the end, I absolutely had know idea what the old man was talking about. So I just answered with what any normal person would answer with.

“Umm… sure….”

“Alright, you got the quest!” – High Priest

Well, that was easier than I thought it would be.

“Boy, your quest will be to lead a group from the church to the fallen village in the north. There people have fallen to the evil spirit. Go help them by purging all the evil.” – High Priest

----------------------------------------

Quest: Where Evil Lurks

Difficulty: C

Requirements: Lead a party to Zovia and purge the evil that has consumed them.

Failure: Intimacy with the church will decrease. Faith, fame, luck, and honor will decrease.

Description: The high priest has asked you to help them will a major quest. You are to lead the people from the church to Zovia village, defeat the evil, and let the church purge the people.

----------------------------------------

[Will you accept the quest?]

“Yes!”

[Quest accepted]

After I accepted the quest, the old man had a satisfied look on his face.

“You will have 1 day to prepare. Get your things ready and then by the time you come tomorrow, we will have chosen those who will go on the adventure with you.” – High Priest

“Thank you. Oh, one more thing, am I allowed to bring others with me?”

The High Priest didn’t answer me immediately, it looked like he was thinking long and hard about my question. After about 30 seconds, he finally answered my question.

“Hmm, since this adventure will be hard and vigorous, a lot of people will be hard to look after. But since you insist, I will allow you to bring 1 person along, no more than that.” – High Priest

“Thank you high priest. I will take my leave now and start preparing.”

“Take care young lad.” – High Priest

When the conversation ended, I received my weapons and left the church in an excited mood. I know exactly who I’m going to invite!

Tyhuko’s ramblings: Poor Iris, she’s gonna get dragged along.

1jayds’ Note: No, its got to be Hazel
