Chapter One: Recruitment

Likely going to make this third person, give it a shot and all that.

----------------------------------------

Graduation day, the end of a simple life dedicated to learning, and understanding the worlds that made up Humanities Empire; along with it's most hated enemy, the Bugs.

"As you all leave these hallowed halls of learning..." - Teacher

Yawning from the third row back, ten seats in sat a young man looking to all the world bored to death. Beside him, a short redhead with a quirky temperament went on and on about joining the mobile infantry with him.

"Trav! Come on, it will be so much fun, we can kill the Bugs! We can grow higher in the ranks, maybe even find your dad!" -Female friend

The male, Tav, gave her a bored look before rolling his eyes. "Enough Trixie, just...enough. I don't care about my Father. I joined to ensure citizenship, and to help pay my mother's medical bills." Trav

She looked put out, but cheered up again, and leaned in close to hug his arm between her small b cup breasts. A smile playing on her lips, a suggestion in her eyes.

They were childhood friends, and had gravitated to each other over the years. But Trav held no interest in her personally beyond sexual relief and friendship. Though she often showed she wanted, and believed what they had was more.

He shook her off, and proceeded to ignore her after that. She pouted, but the quirky Trixie was literally unable to stay sad for long, a temperament issue one would suppose.

Admittedly, Trav found her attractive. Small petite body, muscles and curves in the right places, and beautiful bright green eyes. But he just didn't have the capacity for love, not after the day he learned his Father had gone off the radar when he was five years old; having been forced to become the adult due to his mother breaking down. No parent should break in front of their child.

His Mother had, and it haunted him to this day. She stopped caring, her health declined. The single reason he could go to school, and join the mobile infantry was due to his Fathers friend, Sky Marshal Raddick, assisting him with bills, and funding. His Mother was no longer that, he aided her simply out of the desire to try and see a small glimmer of the parent she was meant to be there again.

It never showed; now he was happy to be leaving. No more mandated daily visits.

The ceremony itself flew by, and was a simple event. He walked up when called, took his diploma; and left to the recruiters bus that was awaiting all those joining Mobile Infantry. Trixie had gone before Trav, and Trav was the last dumb ass to willingly join the branch with the highest death rate in the armed forces.

The reason they had so many heroes? BEcause all of them were dead. The few that had survived were Johny Rico, a Mobile Infantry Legend, and former squad leader of his Father.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Some others, but Rico stood out because he now ran the training for Mobile Infantry in his old age. He refused to retire.

Trav sat on that bloody bus with no air conditioning, and waited for the time to tick by. Finally, it moved, and they were on their way to the boot camp.

Trixie continued to attempt to talk his ear off, he ignored her; along with her hand placed possessively on his thigh when the other female recruits looked his way.

He was somewhat attractive, good bone structure, angular features. Toned, lean muscle; and piercing brown eyes with black hair.

Trav knew that the possessive shit would have to end, and he'd make it in the most painful way possible to send the fact home that he belonged to no one. He would not marry, and he would not leave the military service.

It would become his home, escape, and career. He would not marry and father children because he fully expected to die, and leaving any offspring to deal with what the had would be wrong in his mind.

As they moved toward the boot camp in the ancient bus, he eyed a black female recruit, mocha colored skin, and green eyes that stood out against the rest of her. She was gorgeous in the model sense.

She was also the only one continuing to look his way, even with trixie giving a death glare. She'd do, when the time was right. Planning a method to make sure Trixie found them would be interesting.

People would think Trav cruel, of course, but frankly he didn't give  rats ass. It might even save Trixie's life if she saw, and left the infantry. Trav, while seemingly heartless, had no desire to see his childhood friend eaten by bugs.

Losing himself within his thoughts, they arrived before he knew it. Fort Lancaster, named after some old earth hero.

His new home for the next year while the Legendary Rico, and the Mobile Infantry drill instructors broke him down, and built him into a soldier above others.

Trav had a set plan, to lead his own squad, and kill as many bugs as he could with those men and women before he died.

This was but the start to his career, and he would make the most of it. A new day was upon him, and to Trixie's shock when she looked at him, he was smiling like a child. Something she had not seen since he was exactly that. He never smiled. It made her happy as well. She had no idea what would befall her either. She assumed it was because of her; naivety at it's finest right there.

With that, they arrived however. Their new lives would begin today.
